World Ego Awareness Day

Today is World Ego Awareness Day. It got my attention because I thought that having an ego is a good thing, within reason.

Apparently, it can cause people to behave in ways that are damaging to themselves and others.

World Ego Awareness Day

World Ego Awareness Day

According to the website, egoism can cause people to display narcissistic tendencies, can lead them to be abusive to others, and causes a lack of empathy and general understanding for their peers. I like to think that I am not ruled by my ego largely due to my reiki energy healing practice. Reiki energy healing teaches us to trust in the universe, to stop trying to control events and situations, and to be compassionate.

I can think of a few people in my circles that are ruled by ego in different ways. They are obsessed with work, they do not understand other people’s feelings, much less support those who are struggling, and they seem to live in their own little world, only caring about what happens to them and not really appreciating the bigger picture. My ego can cause me to behave differently sometimes, but generally I show compassion and understanding to other people. I was raised to believe that I shouldn’t walk around thinking I was better than everyone else and that the world doesn’t owe me anything. Maybe people with egotistic traits were raised to believe that they are all-important. I don’t know.

My mission is to help

My mission is to help people who struggle with mental health, who feel lost or unappreciated, and generally those who need a boost of confidence and some time to rest. I use reiki energy healing as a method for relaxation and to calm a turbulent mind. I need to harness the power of my ego when it comes to running a business, but mostly I manage my ego and ensure that I show empathy to people. Are you ruled by your ego? Or do you see yourself as a caring, helpful person?

Chronic Voice Link-up: Thanking the NHS

Welcome to May and our monthly Chronic Voice blog link-up. I am experiencing a chronic pain flare-up with my rare eye disease, but I am battling through each day with a smile as always.

Here is my response to the writing prompts.

Chronic Voice blog link-up for May by Catherine Green of SpookyMrsGreen.com pagan lifestyle blog.
Chronic Voice blog link-up for May

Chronic Voice Link-up: Thanking the NHS

PUSHING: I always feel I am pushing something. Whether that is physically pushing my children out of the door for school, pushing my dog away from the postman as he tries to deliver our mail, or constantly pushing past my eye disorder to try and work properly. I am a freelance writer and need to spend time on my laptop, but lately I have struggled with blurred vision due to the scars on my corneas. Fortunately, I am receiving hospital care, and I can only take each day as it comes, working harder on days when I can see clearly, and resting on days when I can’t.

STRETCHING: I have been suffering with neck pain on and off for the past month. At first, I thought it was due to lack of exercise, or perhaps I had slept in an awkward position in bed. Now I wonder if it is a stress response because I am trying to be full-time parent, housekeeper, build a new business, revisit an old business, and try to earn money in preparation for our finances being affected later this year. I do simple stretching exercises to ease the pain and hopefully as I get out more with the dog and take longer walks my physical health will improve.

DISCIPLINING: I have decided to try and post at least one article on my blog every single day. Don’t ask me why, I think I’m insane! It started by accident late last year, and I had a rush of inspiration for content. Now it has reached the point where I feel I must continue because I have come so far. I need to remain disciplined so that I don’t fall behind on my blog schedule. Remember, fellow spoonies, I am always happy to share blog posts by request. I will happily share news about book launches, for example. Just send me an email.

PRESERVING: Just over a week ago I had a huge development in the treatment of my rare eye disease. I finally met the doctor I have been trying to connect with for over six months. It happened by accident when I attended hospital for a routine check-up. The doctor was direct and incredibly vocal about needing me to be assigned under his care. I think he surprised the chaperone nurse and the doctor I had been assigned at the time! Anyway, he has renewed my confidence in speaking out for myself. I am at risk of developing heart problems due to my congenital disorder, but because it is so rare, we don’t know what my chances are. This doctor said everything I had been trying to explain for the past ten years, and he is in a position to do something about it. He recognises the need to preserve what is left of my eye health and try to improve it while I am relatively young (under 40).

THANKING: I am so thankful to the nurse that helped me see the correct doctor at my last hospital appointment. It happened by chance that I mentioned to her about me having Distichiasis. She immediately went to the doctor, Mr. Walker, and told him I was in the clinic and needed his attention. Now he is on a mission to help me. If I knew the nurse’s name, I would send a personal thank-you to the hospital, but she was so super-efficient and busy I never got chance! She restored my faith in the NHS, and I am so thankful I cannot express. My eye condition leaves me feeling fragile and lonely, and it is such a relief to finally have support from medical professionals.

Chronic Voice Link-Up

I joined the social network for A Chronic Voice because I needed to find people who understand what life is like with chronic illness, people like me. Today I have written a post using the May link-up prompts, to show my experience of living with a chronic pain disorder. #BookTalk When the Vampire meets the Witch – “Vampire of Blackpool”

“Vampire of Blackpool” was born from my love for the Victorian holiday resort that lights up our Northern coastline, and an alternative account of the characters that haunt Blackpool promenade in the dead of night.

Here is an excerpt from of my one of my vampire hunter novels, “Vampire of Blackpool.”

Image of a female vampire facing a vampire hunter man who has his back to the viewer and is holding a knife behind his back. You can see Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Illuminations in the foreground. 3D book cover image for “Vampire of Blackpool” fantasy novel by LGBT fantasy book writer Catherine Green including phone and iPad download images for tablet, iPhone, and android book readers.

Excerpt from “Vampire of Blackpool”

Samantha stared at me, her confidence growing.

“You didn’t answer my other question,” she said, “Why did you attack this man?”

I inclined my head.

“I already told you,” I said, “He provoked me.”

Samantha glared at me and stretched her head to one side so that I could just see the edge of a bandage covering her neck

“Like I provoked you last night you mean?” she asked sarcastically, “I suppose I should be grateful you didn’t put me in the hospital. I should have listened to Paul in the first place.”

I began to feel angry again. It made me defensive.

“I did not mean to feed on you quite so violently,” I said, forcing myself to remain still, “And for that I apologize.”

She caught herself and stared at me curiously.

“You are apologizing?” she asked, “Wow.”

I stood slowly, and she stiffened, holding up her hands. Her power flared, and I realised she was preparing for an attack.

“I will not hurt you here,” I said, “I am fully fed and in control of my instincts.”

“Shit,” she said softly, “It was you who attacked the doctor downstairs.”

I nodded once, smiling again.

“Yes,” I replied, “He gave me what I needed to heal.”

Samantha frowned.

“What about this guy?” she asked, waving her hand at Ryan James, “What are you waiting for?”

My expression hardened.

“He is a vampire hunter,” I said quietly, “I require answers. We battled last night after I left you. He was hunting along the promenade, near the Pleasure Beach. He found what he was looking for, but he was not prepared for a fight with such an old and powerful vampire.”

Shh
It’s Our Secret” by Lizzie Chantree

We all have moments where we feel a low sense of self-worth. In Shh
It’s our secret, my main character, Violet, is very shy. She works in a rundown cafĂ© bar at the heart of the community, but she has an explosive secret that could change all of their lives. She has to overcome her fear being judged, of failing and step into the limelight to prove to her sister, ex-boyfriend and her closest friends, that she has more to offer the world than they bargained for. To do that she must take a leap of faith, overcome her deep rooted fears and find her voice.

This book is full of friendship, laughter and fun, as well as second chances at love. It is a romantic tale about pushing doubts aside and believing in ourselves more.

Book Blurb:

Violet has a secret that could change the lives of everyone she knows and loves, especially the regulars at the run-down café bar where she works. After losing her parents at a young age, they are the closest thing she has to a family and she feels responsible for them.

Kai is a jaded music producer who has just moved outside of town. Seeking solitude from the stress of his job, he’s looking for seclusion. The only problem is he can’t seem to escape the band members and songwriters who keep showing up at his house.

When Kai wanders into the bar and Violet’s life, he accidently discovers her closely guarded secret. Can Kai help her rediscover her self-confidence or should some secrets remain undiscovered?

Beltane Tarot Card Reading for Guidance on Relationships

Beltane Blessings, my pagan friends. Yes, I know, technically I’m a few days late to the party. But you see, pagan festivals don’t need to follow a strict calendar. We do it when we feel like it, and that is exactly what happened with my Beltane Tarot card reading for relationship guidance and advice.

For this Tarot card reading I have used the Oracle of the Dragonfae by Lucy Cavendish. This is a very precious deck of cards, one with which I feel a strong connection. Today’s reading was more powerful than I anticipated and has left me reeling with the strength of its message. See if it resonates as strongly with you and your situation:

Beltane Tarot Card Reading for Guidance on Relationships

1, Works – The Sovereign

Gentle Power. Why must you seek validation from other people? They offer wisdom and guidance, but you know this already. You already walk their path, you have learned their lessons, and you could quote their words back to them. Now you must make your own path in matters of business. Do it your way.

2, Home – Chumara

Web of All Life. What are you hiding from? For years you have become settled behind a mask as you fulfilled the role expected of you. Now it is time to remove that mask and show yourself as you truly are. Perhaps you can begin to repair broken relationships but do it on your terms. You cannot remake something to be the same as it was. That is not for you. It they cannot live with You, they do not deserve your time or energy.

3, Unexpected – Gwynne & Elluish

Attunement. You always knew you had a special connection. The world is far greater for you than it appears for other people. You see ethereal beings and you hear other voices. Do not dismiss them. Welcome them. Hear their wisdom. You are connected to both the higher and the lower realms of this world and you can travel freely between them. Explore the possibilities.

4, Your Role – Morgan le Fey

Healing. It is time to acknowledge your pain. You have battled alone for a long time and now you need to rest. Allow someone else to shoulder the burden. Accept help when it is offered. Take time out to recover and never struggle alone again. Your supporter will appear soon, and you will recognise them.

5, Outcome – Gaia’s Dragon

Divine Union. The one you seek is within reach. Now that you have experienced all that has passed, now you see the truth, now you are able to move on. You are wise, you see the full picture, and you see beyond the masks of people in your circles. With this wisdom you are able to find your missing piece, the person that you need. You will know them, and they will know you. Move on.

Summary

Wow! This Tarot card reading packed a punch. For me it was an instruction to move on with my life and leave behind an old relationship that no longer fits. I was stunned when I remembered that my last Tarot card reading with the Dragonfae Oracle was in August 2020, at a time when I made a life-changing decision. This reading very much continued the conversation, helping me to see what I must do next. It will not be easy, but I am strong with my ethereal, magickal friends for support.

My Chronic Pain Journey: A Huge Breakthrough

Yesterday marked a significant breakthrough in the treatment of my rare congenital disease, Lymphodoema Distichiasis.

My Treatment Plan for Rare Eye Disease by Catherine Green of SpookyMrsGreen.com pagan lifestyle blog.
My Treatment Plan for Rare Eye Disease

A Huge Breakthrough

I finally met the elusive doctor that I should have seen back in October (when I went to the wrong hospital). He immediately ordered a referral to my GP for me to have ECG/ECHO and have my heart monitored because heart defects are linked to this condition and so far, other doctors have ignored my concerns. Mr. Walker also focused on the chance of swelling in my legs as the condition leaves me at risk of blood clots.

As for the eyes… I am going to donate blood that will provide serum which should be in my tears, but my eyes don’t produce it naturally. Scientists will create a unique eyedrop solution for me that should relieve the inflammation and pain, and hopefully I can reduce the amount of eyedrops I use every day.

My mind is blown at the speed with which this happened once I saw a doctor who recognised my condition and knew how to treat it. Now I’m waiting for the next stages in the process.

How To Let Go And Achieve A Higher Level Of Consciousness

In the modern world, we have a lot of physical, external technologies. But we hardly know anything about the inner workings of our minds. We haven’t done any inner engineering. And that means that we’re walking around in a constant state of anxiety and suffering, wondering why the heck life has to be so hard.

But it turns out that there are other states of consciousness you can access. You don’t actually have to feel like you do right now. You can adopt a new way of being that isn’t the traditional Western analytical style. And it can feel really good.

How To Let Go And Achieve A Higher Level Of Consciousness

Letting go and achieving a higher state of consciousness can bring all kinds of benefits. It helps to bring more compassion and love into your relationships. It reduces your suffering. And it helps you attain a kind personal liberation where you no longer feel like you have to rely on external things to provide you with happiness.

Actually achieving these higher states of consciousness, however, seem like a bit of a mystery to the vast majority of people. They’re uncharted territory. And, in the West, we don’t have official channels allowing people to explore them, unlike in the East.

So what can you do to get to higher states of being and really enjoy your life in a fundamental way?

Reduce Thinking

The first place to begin is with thinking itself.

Be honest with yourself: how many times during the day does your mind entertain unwanted or unpleasant thoughts? If you’re like most people, it’s all the time. There’s this constant background chatter that causes massive swings in your mood and wellbeing.

It turns out, though, that you and your thoughts are not the same thing. If you can learn to switch them off, you can begin to experience a child-like state of consciousness. You just experience existence for what it is, without all the layers of thought and anxiety on top of it.

Reduce Your Fictions

The next step is to reduce your mind-made fictions.

Most people have a set idea of who they are, where they come from, why they are the way they are, and what they can achieve. And they believe in these ideas fiercely.

Achieving a higher level of consciousness, however, is all about letting go of these concepts. That way, you don’t limit your life or box yourself in.

Change Your Thought Processes

Thanks to mental health problems, online hypnotherapy is now the norm. The reason it’s so popular is that it helps people to change their unconscious thought processes. You might tell yourself that you’re free, but unless the unconscious mind believes it, your life won’t go in the direction you want it to go.

Reconfiguring your mind using various techniques, therefore, can help accelerate conscious awakening. The more practice you give it, the more liberated you become.

Using Your Brain To Serve You

Lastly, higher states of consciousness involve using your brain to serve you, not the other way around. You come to recognise that it’s not just something that generates pain, but a tool you can use for creating more bliss in your life.

#FrightfulReads – “Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel)”

Quivering with anticipation, let’s delve into a bone-chilling snippet:

“I was barefoot, and almost slipped down the stairs in my haste. I stood on tiptoes, looked through the peephole and saw the top of Jack’s head. He must be looking down for some reason. I flung open the door, and then gasped in horror. He was leaning against the doorframe, his face covered in blood from what looked like a large gash above his right eye, and several scratches and cuts on his cheeks and chin. His clothes were dirty, torn, and bloody, and he fell through the door into my arms.  Instinctively I tried to catch him, and fell to the floor with a cry, trying to support his weight.

“Jack!” I cried, “Jack can you hear me? Speak to me!”

My Books are Easy Reads; I’m OK with that #TheRedcliffeNovels

There is a world of adventure within the pages of all the books in the world. I know, this sort of thing has been said before. There are various memes and quotes circulating on social media to remind us of this.

But it is only since I became a professional writer that I began to look at my writing with a critical eye. I mean, when I was scribbling in my diaries, jotting down notes for stories, and lacking the confidence to allow anyone to see what I wrote, I didn’t need to concern myself with writing form, correct language and plot, and all the other nuances that go into creating a literary masterpiece.

#RedcliffeNovels LGBT Fantasy Book Series for Adults

My Books are Easy Reads

My novels have been described as easy reads. And I like that feedback. Yes, I do hold a dream of one day being recognised as a force of literary power and talent. But I also know that this kind of accolade comes with experience. I am still only at the beginning of a long career in writing. In the past ten years I have published eight novels and several short stories and have started writing a further four novels. That is a pretty good achievement while I raised children, dealt with family crisis, built a freelance career and then coped in the pandemic as a single parent.

Redcliffe novels are written for pleasure

The Redcliffe novels are written for pleasure. They provide passion, romance, adventure and danger. They offer a chance to escape from the real world, and to immerse yourself in a parallel world, a world that operates within human society, but remains hidden. The Redcliffe novels offer you the chance to look at strangers on the street and ask yourself, “What is their story? Who are they, really?” And that, for me, is the pleasure and the excitement of writing. When I set out to write Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel), I never planned to turn the story into a trilogy. It was simply the case that as I wrote, my characters became something vibrant and alive, and they demanded more attention. Then I had to write my first historical paranormal novel, The Darkness of Love. After that came more Redcliffe novels in the form of a second trilogy to form a six-book series, with the final book still in progress.

I hope you enjoy my easy reads

I hope you enjoy my easy reads, just as much as I enjoy writing them. My novels have short chapters, they are available in paperback format, and they are ideal for tablet and mobile reading. You can read them very easily during the daily commute or on your lunch break. And if you haven’t tried them yet, the first novel, Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel), is only 99p on Kindle. Have a lovely day, my friends!

Excerpt from “Love Kills (The Redcliffe Novels)”

“Jessica, please, I want to help you,” Jack said from the stairwell where he stood in shadow, “You are not weak. Please talk to me.”

Carrying my glass over to the table, I gulped the cold water and put my glass down, then turned to him. He was naked, and his body seemed to glow in the darkness, tormenting and tempting me at the same time. This was not a man. This was a vampire. I am in love with a vampire. Because of him I was almost killed, and now I am scarred for life, both physically and mentally. Because of him my life will never be the same again, and yet still I can’t leave him. And now, to top it off, I am having erotic dreams about his identical twin brother, a man who has made it clear he wants to sleep with me. What kind of a soap opera is my life right now?

“Jack, it’s late, or early, whatever, and I need to sleep,” I said moodily, “And I can’t sleep, because I keep having these stupid, ridiculous dreams.”

“What dreams?” Jack asked gently.

I swallowed, thinking about my words. I felt anger now, and frustration, but at least the tears were gone. I took a deep breath. If I didn’t tell him he wouldn’t leave me alone.

“I keep dreaming about Danny,” I said, heart pounding.
