We have a new addition to our family! Introducing Charlie, the “compost kitten.”

Charlie was born to a feral cat at the IVC facility where my husband works in Cheshire East and was taken in by animal rescue when the mother rejected her litter.

Charlie the “Compost Kitten.”

Charlie and his siblings were found in a compost pile on the IVC facility, and they had a lucky escape. The worker who found them was using a mechanical digger to move compost around on the site, and he would have scooped up the kittens and probably killed them without even knowing they were there. Something made him get out of his cab and check the compost pile, and that’s when he found the babies and their mother. She ran away as soon as he approached, so he took the kittens into the office where he and his colleagues set about finding blankets and shelter before contacting the RSPCA and a local veterinary surgery for advice. Charlie’s 4 siblings sadly passed within the first few weeks and little Charlie has lost an eye due to infection. He has an uncertain future health-wise, but we will give him as much love and care as we possibly can.

We brought Charlie to his new home earlier this week. My girls and I went to collect him after school one day. There were some tears later that night as we remembered our beloved little Cora who was gone too soon. She sadly died in an accident in 2022. Here’s hoping that her sister, Nora, will take care of Charlie and his love might soften the grief that is always present

Thanks to Kelly’s Kittys and K9s

Huge thanks to Kelly’s Kittys and K9s for her dedicated care and attention for Charlie and his family. If you could spare a small donation towards vet fees it would be hugely appreciated. Kelly has a lot of homeless kittens under her care at the moment, and she is still paying for Charlie’s vet fees and for her other rescue cats and kittens. My husband and I donated what we could, and we anticipate that Charlie will need extra care as he grows older, so we are prepared for that.

If you could spare £1 or $1 for the cat rescue campaign it will go a long way to saving the lives of abandoned kittens and cats in our local area, and all feral cats are spayed and vaccinated before being returned to their preferred environment. Charlie’s mother has returned to the IVC facility where the staff can watch over her and she is happy in her own space. She will not be having any more kittens.

“We’re raising £5,000 to cover the daily and veterinary costs to help the stray, feral, abandoned and in need furbabies”

Visit Kellys Kittys and K9s fundraiser to donate for our pets. You can see a photo of Charlie shortly after his surgery on the fundraising page. He is the poster boy for the campaign, and I really want to see Kelly receive some support and financial help to relieve the emotional burden and associated stress. She is currently hand-rearing several kittens from a few stray families that were brought in, and she cannot take any more homeless pets until she pays some of the vet fees that have accumulated.

I know you are animal lovers, my friends, or you wouldn’t be following my blog and reading my stories. I will continue to share updates about Charlie as he settles into his new home, along with tales about his antics with our 2 year-old cat, Nora, and our 6 year-old rescue dog, Marley. Our pets are a little confused about this new kitten in the house and Nora sulked upstairs all night when we first brought him home. Today she seems a little more curious, and I think she is almost ready to get close to Charlie and get to know him. I hope that she will mother him and give him the feline care that he needs, but we will not force her. Charlie has his own little bedroom for now where he is safe, I am caring for him during the day, and our children will play with him when they return from school.

My Review of  “The Witch’s Book of Love Spells”

This is a cute little book with a lot of useful information packed into the pages. I like that there are different sections to cover recipes for food and drink with explanations of how it relates to love spells, astrology and partner compatibility, herbs, and crystals that you can use for personal spell work, and lots more. It is all laid out in an easy-to-read format with colourful illustrations. My teenage daughter liked the look of it immediately, so I will be monitoring her to see what spell work she might attempt!

This book is a great resource for witches old and new, and you can adapt the spells to represent love in all forms, not just the romance department. Sometimes a good spell for selfcare can help change your perspective on a troubling issue and can give your confidence a boost when you need it.

I will mention that the book is written for an American audience so ingredients lists might be tricky to interpret. Of course, that is easily remedied in today’s AI powered world, but I thought I would make a point of including it in my review. I look forward to working with this book in the future.

My Review of  “Woman Through the Ages”

This is one hefty tome! I enjoyed reading this book and I do recommend it if you want to explore history from the perspective of women. What I didn’t realise was that this book is an alternative autobiography. Ann Merivale is a deep-memory process therapist, which means that she helps people to access long-lost memories to help them heal and resolve issues that continue to trouble them.

In this book, Merivale writes about her own personal past-life memories as chronicled throughout her current life. She then explains more about the history of the location and the time period to which these memories refer which I found fascinating to read. She talks about influential women or women who were infamous during different time periods, and the legacy they left.

 I will say that the book probably didn’t need to be quite so long, and there are some personal memories from Ann’s current life that might not be so interesting to read about. I am fascinated with past-life regression and there is lots of that to be explored in this book. It would make a great read for your summer holiday!

Summer Solstice Tarot Reading with Tarot of Eternal Being Tarot Card Deck

Solstice Blessings, my pagan friends! Today I share a Summer Solstice Tarot reading with a review of a brand-new Tarot card deck by Ann Stoker.

Summer is upon us, and we are still experiencing a heatwave here in the UK, albeit with some rain thrown in for good measure. I decided to do a horoscope spread for the Tarot card reading, which gives guidance and insight for the year ahead.

Summer Solstice Tarot Reading

I laid the cards out in a horoscope spread. This uses twelve cards to represent each calendar month, and for this reading I read the cards in an anti-clockwise direction which I was guided to do intuitively.

1. Your relationship with Yourself: 9 of Cups – Right now you are in a good place emotionally. This card makes for a good Tarot reading because it confirms that you start the second half of this calendar year in a good place. You know your strengths and you are able to use them to your advantage. Now you may ask “Where do I go from here? What is the next challenge that I can rise to now that I am equipped to handle it?”

2. What you value in relationships: 10 of Pentacles – For you it must be all or nothing. You give everything in your relationships, and you expect the same in return. Are you prepared to settle for anything less in the current situation? Or are you prepared to walk away if the other person/people don’t give the same attention to detail? I feel this relates to a professional matter rather than personal, so it could be to with your business or your job.

3. Neighbours, close relatives: 9 of Pentacles: While you enjoy being in a good place emotionally and spiritually, you might now yearn for material gain. Why shouldn’t you enjoy the wealth of the physical world in the same way that your neighbours and relatives do? Perhaps they can offer support and are waiting for you to ask for help. Or maybe you have valuable knowledge and skills to offer in return. You do hold power in this scenario.

4. Family members: 8 of Pentacles – Right now you are focused on work and the pursuit of training for enhanced skills and knowledge. While some family members might not understand why you do this, those closest to you are prepared to step back and leave you to work and study in peace. Take this precious time for yourself and enjoy it.

5. Children, love affairs, favourite people: 7 of Pentacles – As I study the card, I hear the Elvis Presley song “Caught in a Trap.” It feels playful and light-hearted. Ok, so we know that having children costs money, especially in a world experiencing a cost-of-living crisis. But we acknowledge that these children bring us joy and unconditional love. The same can be said for a loving relationship. Be with the one who loves you regardless of your physical wealth.

6. Colleagues, Customers, Employees: 6 of Pentacles – At this stage you are abundant in everything you need to succeed in material goals. Your co-workers are supportive, and you all share the same ambition. There might be a little friendly competition, but you will all share the rewards for your combined efforts at work.

7. One-to-One relationships, Open enemies: 5 of Pentacles – Something is changing, and you face the challenge of how to respond. Maybe you experience a familiar pattern of behaviour, but this time you can prevent it from spiralling into destruction. You know better, and you can be the better person in this scenario.

8. Intimate partners, financial partners: 4 of Pentacles – Look at this phase as part of the seasonal cycle. The word is always moving, always changing, even if we don’t consciously recognise it. While our intimate partners may be stable, our financial partners fluctuate depending on our needs. Go with the flow and everything will run smoothly.

9. Teachers, mentors: 3 of Pentacles – You have finally found the mentors that you yearned for. After what might be years of searching, enjoy the time you spend with your teachers. It might not be about serious work. Look at the life skills you can learn and the behaviour you can emulate that will help you grow. Or perhaps it is you who can teach others how to behave.

10. Older friends, relatives, authority figures: 2 of Pentacles – We are raised with the belief that we learn from our elders and that they hold the wisdom that we seek. While that can be true, sometimes the elders can learn something from younger people, especially in a world that is evolving rapidly. Stand firm and teach others your wisdom, whatever your age.

11. Friends, groups: Ace of Pentacles – As you teach your elders about the wisdom of the new world, so your friends can do the same. When you work together you can bring together the elements of all your strengths and create something even better. You are supported.

12. Secret relationships, hidden enemies: 10 of Cups – After such a positive, productive and educational year, your emotions overflow with good feeling. There will be people who harbour ill feelings towards you, but it is all rooted in jealousy and by this point you genuinely don’t care. You can rise above their petty jealousies, and you will move on to bigger and better experiences.

Summary

Phew, it looks like we have a good year ahead! I think we deserve it after the chaos of the last few years, what with the pandemic, the political and economic upheaval, and all the personal challenges that we each experience. Tarot of Eternal Being Tarot Card Deck Review

I received the Tarot of Eternal Being Tarot card deck by Ann Stoker along with a book called “Tarot and the Cube of Space: Key to the Cosmos” by Oderic. The book review will follow separately so look out for that, but I decided to include the Tarot card review here since it is easier to review Tarot cards once I have used them in a reading.

These cards are vibrant and full of energy! They come with a small guidebook but for more insights you need the “Tarot and the Cube of Space” book as it details each individual card with readings related to the subject matter, namely the Kabalah and Tree of Life in the Hebrew tradition. I found the cards easy to work with and would recommend them for people who are new to Tarot cards. As a more experienced reader myself, I connected intuitively with the cards and set aside 3 cards to work with personally as they fell out of the deck while I was shuffling it and I knew that they held a message for me. I like the rich colours on these Tarot cards and the symbolism that they contain.

Sex is everywhere in modern society, yet it remains taboo. We all have questions about sex that are too uncomfortable to ask – how do we get reliable answers?

My Review of “Impulse – The Science of Sex and Desire”

I had high expectations for this book, but I have to say I was disappointed. It took almost a month to read the book which is a good indication of how little I enjoyed it. I was determined to persevere, but honestly, I was glad to finish it and move on.

The overall tone of the content seemed quite negative towards sex, focusing on descriptions of the activities that can be viewed as “bad” or unhealthy. There didn’t seem to be much detail about the positive side of sex or the benefits of a healthy sexual relationship, which I found disheartening. Some of the content seemed repetitive or seemed to be a long explanation for a simple term or phrase, and I didn’t feel that I learned anything particularly useful or relevant to me as an individual.

As someone who would like to advocate for a more sex-positive attitude, this book was not the right one to read. If you want a lot of data analysis and medical references, then this is your book. I also feel like the book was written more for an America audience as it refers to data from US institutions.

Jessica’s Compassion and Morals
