#BookTalk: Suspicious Werewolves in “Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel)” by Catherine Green

Here is an excerpt from my second published book, LGBT fantasy novel “Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel).”

Our heroine Jessica Stone returns to the wolves’ lair, against her better judgement, and what does she witness?

Excerpt from “Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel)” by Catherine Green

Danny was looking straight at me with his familiar deep blue, hypnotic eyes. It was as though I was staring at Jack and I struggled to collect myself. His voice was soft, gentle, and even sensual. I was very aware of his hands on my shoulders, the strength in his body.

“They know I am fond of you Jessica,” he said quietly, “I cannot deny that. And I have never invited humans into our lair before. My wolves are mistrustful because the females want to offer themselves as my mate. The position would elevate their individual power and control, and for them it is a desirable role.”

I slowly took in what he was saying.

“So they think that I want to be your mate?” I asked slowly.

Danny nodded.

“But that’s crazy,” I exclaimed, “I don’t want to be a werewolf! I mean…”

I faltered, embarrassed and Danny smiled.

#TheRedcliffeNovels Series

The Redcliffe novels series follow the adventures of bookshop owner Jessica Stone as she meets a man and falls in love, only to discover the hidden werewolf secrets of her close friends. That includes Simon Bunce, manager of the Ship Inn, who turns out to be lieutenant to the Redcliffe werewolf pack, and lover to the wolf alpha Danny Mason. He fights to protect his master from the ethereal animal familiar who threatens to claim their pack. Who knew the Cornish coast could be so deadly?

How to Stop Spending So Much Money

If your outgoings are outpacing your income or you’re saving up for something special, you’ll want to get a handle on your spending and slash your expenditure. Fortunately, there are numerous ways you can cut your costs, without living frugally.

For inspiration, take a look at these top tips and find out how you can stop spending so much money:

How to Stop Spending So Much Money

Switch Suppliers

As your contracts come to an end, don’t let them automatically renew. Instead, scour the market for the best deals. From the cheapest Apple smartphone contracts to the cheapest electricity providers, there are numerous service contracts that can be renegotiated. Whether you’re paying above average for car insurance, home insurance or gas and water, you can save a substantial amount by renegotiating your rates or switching to a different supplier.

Track Your Spending

When you don’t keep a running total of what you’re spending, it’s easy to underestimate what your outgoings really are. By keeping track of your spending, however, you’ll be able to identify excessive spending habits, as well as unnecessary purchases. Fortunately, today’s tech makes it easy to track your spending, whether it takes place online or offline. By scanning your receipts into apps or manually inputting the figures, you can keep a running daily, weekly or monthly total and gain a deeper insight into your spending.

Set Goals

Everyone wants to save money but having a vague goal offers little motivation. In contrast, when you set yourself clear objectives, it’s easy to achieve your goals. If you want to take a holiday in 2021, for example, calculate the amount you want to spend and identify cost-cutting exercises you can undertake now. This gives you a defined goal to work towards and will help to keep you on track when you make changes to your spending habits.

Start Meal Prepping

Many families overspend when it comes to grocery shopping, particularly if they shop multiple times a week or rely solely on processed foods. Fortunately, it’s easy to slash your shopping bills by rethinking the way you prepare meals throughout the week. Instead of making meals from scratch every day or relying on takeaways and processed foods, start preparing your meals in advance.

This will ensure you make the most of your ingredients and reduce waste, thus reducing your costs. What’s more – when you always have a tasty meal to enjoy, you’ll be less tempted to overspend on takeaways.

Avoid Impulse Purchases

When you are going to spend money, give yourself time to think about the transaction first. By giving yourself 24 hours to consider a purchase before making it, for example, you can determine whether you really need or want to part with your cash.

Rethink Your Household Budget

Creating an up-to-date household budget is a sure-fire way to take a new approach to spending. When you can clearly identify your expenditure, it’s easy to see where changes can be made. From cancelling unused subscriptions to finding better deals, cutting your spending can be simpler than you think.

Here’s How You Can Make The Most Of The Rule Of Six

Since the government announced a planned phased return to ‘normality’ this summer, many of us have been able to breathe a sigh of relief that we’re finally entering the tail end of the pandemic

Unfortunately, with restrictions still set to apply in some sense until the end of June, keeping our eyes too firmly on that end date (which may still change,) could make the next few months painful and even slower than the ones before them.

Here’s How You Can Make The Most Of The Rule Of Six

To make sure that doesn’t happen, it’s important to take each phase of eased restrictions as it comes and to make the most of it to its fullest. Obviously, the kids returning to school at the start of this month was a huge step in the right direction, finally freeing us to get a little space to think and work but, next on the agenda is the rule of six, set to come in on March 29th.

This means that meetings of six people will be permitted in outdoor spaces, so long as social distancing rules are followed. This pitstop on the way to a pandemic-free life is set to spell a huge change in the isolation and ongoing separation that pandemic life has brought. But, how can you make the most of this change when it finally comes into play?

Plan fun outdoor activities

Given that the rule of six very much applies to outdoor meetings only, it’s vital that you put plans in place for fun outdoor activities to keep your weekends full and ensure you can safely see everyone that you’ve been missing. Luckily, there are some fantastic options set to open this summer, and making the most of them is guaranteed to bring light back into your days. You could certainly benefit from taking time now to plan trips to some of the best stately homes to visit or book advance tickets for iconic animal parks like Longleat. You’d be amazed by how much these little trips could transform your weekends as you know them.

Get your garden ready to go

While most of us perfected our gardens during the gentle days of the first lockdown, this latest period indoors has seen us busier than ever as we’ve tried to juggle work and schooling. That, mixed with a pretty harsh winter, has left many of our gardens worse for wear. Make sure that this doesn’t stop you from finally seeing your loved ones by getting your garden ready to roll when restrictions do lift. Specifically, de-weed those garden beds, clean off that garden furniture and mow the lawn so that the kids and their cousins/friends/etc. can have fun while you adults catch up.

A final word

There’s no denying that the past year has been tough on everyone, especially as 2021 has led to yet more restrictions, often with no end in sight. Now, though, chinks of change are finally shining through the pandemic darkness. Are you ready to invite them in so that these last few months are easier for everyone to bear?

The Kids Are Back: How can We Minimise their Pressures to “Catch Up?”

For us parents, the relief in our children going back to school may only be felt by us. After lockdown, our children going back to school can be a mixed blessing. While your kids may be going back and spending more time with their friends, the reality soon dawns that there’s a lot of catching up to do.

And when your children go back to learning, it soon becomes apparent that you have to get involved. How can you help your child catch up in school, especially if they are concerned?

The Kids Are Back: How can We Minimise their Pressures to “Catch Up?”

Address What Level Your Child Should Be At

This may require speaking to the teacher because even though they will be trying to get everybody back up to speed, you need to know where they were before everything changed. Because if your child has exams coming over the next couple of years, and they weren’t in a very strong position, your child may benefit from additional tuition. There are a wide variety of online tuition providers that can bring a little extra light onto the subject. Because your child may be naturally gifted in some subjects, but not others, it is about ensuring you know where your child was before schools shut.

Acknowledge That it May Be Difficult

Your child will have a variety of mixed emotions, depending on their age. There’s going to be a difficult time ahead, not just academically but emotionally. It’s important to remind them that returning to school is a very big thing and that you understand this. Be sure that you don’t impose yourself on them, as they may very well be struggling in some ways, but not others. The best thing you can do is to give them the opportunity to talk if they are struggling.

Being Aware of Different Learning Styles

It all depends on your child’s teachers. They may very well incorporate different ways of learning, and this may be something you will have focused on at home. If you’ve had to home-school your child in close quarters, you will have a better understanding of their particular learning styles. During this period of time, if they are struggling to catch up and all their friends are flying ahead, it might be time for you to focus on different ways for them to learn. They may not be a visual learner but focus better if they are auditory learners.

Don’t Forget the Coping Strategies and Well-Being

Your child may feel the pressure to catch up quickly, but if your child is feeling stressed, it’s important to give them a wide variety of coping strategies. You need to acknowledge this is a very anxiety-inducing time. But you should also help your child to build a healthier routine, whether they are in school or not. If you are glad they are back at school, you’re not alone, but it’s important to remember that this is, in many ways, a whole new heap of anxiety. Our children won’t always have a wonderful time in school, but we must remember that the pressures of academia can overwhelm anybody.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day, my friends.

#MummyMonday Happy Mother's Day from SpookyMrsGreen.com mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
#MummyMonday Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day!

Yes, today we celebrate our mothers, and today I celebrate myself as a mother. I cannot visit my Mum due to the UK lockdown, but we plan to have a wonderful day out at our favourite craft village when we are allowed to socialise again. We look forward to it. I am glad that my mum is still with me, still on the end of the phone to talk to and waiting for a visit from her children and grandchildren.

I want to wish a bittersweet Happy Mother’s Day to my friends who are grieving. This is due to both the pandemic and other circumstances. I grieve with my friends and send my condolences to whoever reads this message and is missing their mum in death. Know that she will be watching over you, wherever she is.

For my friends with younger children who have battled through the lockdowns, let us stand proud in our achievements. We have managed to keep our families healthy, happy, educated, cared for and supported during this most difficult time, and we continue to do so. Happy Mother’s Day. We are Amazing!!!
