The idea of leaving a legacy is partly why I continue to persevere with writing and publishing my novels. I know how proud my children are about the work that I do, and they both enjoy writing their own stories, so they can be authors just like mummy.
My husband has just been made redundant from a job where he left a very big legacy in terms of the work he put into that place over the years, and how he helped improve recycling and waste management statistics for Greater Manchester Waste. It got me thinking about my family legacy, and where I come from: a small city in the north Midlands, known affectionately as The Potteries.
Leaving a Legacy: My Gift to the World when I’m Gone
Technically I come from a town just outside of Stoke-on-Trent, but my grandparents grew up in and around the Potteries, and so did I. As a child I never appreciated what a great city I came from, always seeking to escape and set up a new life somewhere else in the world. I ended up not far away, just over the border in Cheshire, and I still regularly visit family and friends in Stoke.
Perhaps it is the political unrest in our country that has me feeling nostalgic for the good old days. Maybe I am feeling my age and thinking about my parents and grandparents. I have always been fascinated by social history and heritage, and just last week my mum and I visited a local craft and antique centre in search of homewares. We like to buy second-hand items where possible, partly to reuse them, and partly to respect their heritage.
Replace my broken china
I found some useful dinner plates to replace my broken ones, my mum found some ornamental items she wanted. I also found lots of fine bone china tea sets that reminded me of my paternal grandmother. She loved to collect Royal Doulton figurines, and I inherited three of them when my grandad passed away last year. I used to love studying the figurines as a child, and now I sit and stare at them while I work at home, seeking inspiration in their bright colours and cheerful depictions.
I have a Country Rose lady, the Balloon Lady, and the Silk Ribbon Lady. I also have a cabinet full of Royal Albert Old Country Roses dinnerware from my nanna, and I love it. Our heritage is important. These pieces were designed and made in Stoke-on-Trent, and they will always remind me of where I came from, and my ancestors before me. Let us continue to create lives that are colourful, cheerful and always optimistic. Namaste.

Our family has experienced a week of high emotion, coping with change, and learning to let go. It all began with my husband working the last shift at his job of fourteen years. He will no longer have a hand in the recycling and waste management for Greater Manchester, and this has hit him very hard. He was devoted to the job, so much so that it almost broke our marriage, but that is another story.
Today I want to talk about the family car. It finally gave up on us last week. Old Worky will work no more!
#MummyMonday More than just a Car Skoda Fabia.
More than Just a Car
Now, a lot of people would say it’s just a car, why all the fuss? Other people would completely understand our emotional attachment to the vehicle. My husband purchased the Skoda Fabia Greenline back in 2008, and we have taken it all over the UK. It took us on honeymoon in North Yorkshire, it took me to a ghost hunt in Edinburgh, it brought both our babies home from hospital, and it has done countless journeys up and down the M6 motorway, around Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent.
With a final mileage of around 235,000, I think we can safely say we got our money’s worth from that car. It never once broke down, except on its final journey. Farewell, Worky. You have been a good car.

“Shadow Stalker” (Part 1) by Renee Scattergood
“Shadow Stalker” (Part 1) by Renee Scattergood
Auren longs for the freedom that comes with adulthood and wants to celebrate her coming of age with her friends on a distant island. When her strict foster-father, Kado, says no, she sneaks out, determined to prove she can take care of herself. But her forbidden excursion turns into a nightmare when the island is overrun by the Galvadi Empire forces. Worse, she learns that she is their main target.
Drevin, Emperor of the Galvadi people, is convinced she will enslave the people of the Serpent Isles and wants her dead.
When Auren learns she is a shadow stalker, someone who can travel between the physical and spirit worlds, and that she is the only one who can stop Drevin, it’s more than she can take. Her whole world is turning upside down and instead of adulthood bringing freedom, she is instead overwhelmed by a greater undertaking than any one person could possibly overcome. It seems hopeless.
However, if she can defeat Drevin, maybe she can have her old life back. More than that, the people she cares about would be safe to live their lives, and the people of the Serpent Isles would be free of the Galvadi forever.

Reiki energy healing is becoming more popular in the Western world as a method for holistic healing. People receive training (myself included) in how to harness the natural energy that is available to all, and we learn how to feel subtle differences in other people, to distinguish what kind of healing they might require.
But reiki energy healing cannot simply be used as a cure for all illness and disorder. That is not how it works. We are supposed to care for ourselves and our bodies in many ways: by taking regular exercise, eating healthy food, monitoring our addictive personality traits, and ensuring we have rest and quiet time when it is needed. But we forget this.
When Reiki Healing doesn’t Work
When Reiki Healing Doesn’t Work
We spend all our time running around in circles, from home to job to school to the gym, to wherever we need to be at a given time. We forget to eat properly, or we don’t have time to sit down for a home-cooked meal. We grab a snack as we hurry around, and then we stay up late trying to finish jobs at home, and we get up early for work the next day. My point is, we forget to care for ourselves. And then we wonder why we fall ill. We wonder why our bodies suddenly develop severe pain conditions, where previously we were healthy. We cannot see life beyond the stress. And so we seek help from medical professionals.
I have been practising meditation for around fifteen years. It didn’t come easy, I admit. It took a lot of perseverance for me to switch off my phone, switch off the TV, and shut myself away from the world in order to meditate in a quiet space. I would often busy myself by cleaning the room in which I wanted to meditate, or tidying the garden, so that by the time I was done, it was too late in the day or I had to go to work, or something else needed attention. I found it very difficult to make time for myself. And I still do.
Working with reiki energy
During the past three years I have studied reiki energy healing, working with the energies and learning how they make me feel. I have had to book myself in for meditation and reiki treatments, even by myself at home, because otherwise I would just be busy with life. And then I feel obliged to use my healing skills on the people I know who are struggling. There is my husband with depression and anxiety, and his mother. There is my father-in-law with a brain injury. My youngest daughter is grieving the loss of a friend. My other friends are grieving for lost family members. Yet other friends are dealing with their own mental health challenges.
I know that everyone can take care of themselves, but I also know that I want to help them if I can. But first I must help myself. I must be alone, in my own space, to clear my mind and refresh my body. Only then am I able to help the people I love, and the wider community around me. Namaste.

Oral prophylaxis or professional cleaning as it is commonly called as is the procedure that cleans the teeth from plaque and deposits and removes the stains of any. The step of polishing teeth through prophy paste involves the smoothing of the clean surfaces of the teeth, thereby, removing micro-deposits as well and giving a great feel to the tongue or inner lips as they rub on the teeth.
Earlier, taste or flavor of prophy paste was the last factor that was considered before purchasing prophy paste. The particle size, also known as the grit of the paste was regarded as the most important criteria for selection. Grit size happens to still be on the top of the list of requirements. Coarse grit is never preferred for human teeth as that may result in quick wearing down of enamel thereby increasing the risk of sensitivity later on. Fine grit doesn’t do the job as the small particles are unable to run and produce the desired smooth finish. Medium grit should be selected always as it delivers optimum results without any damage to the teeth.
The flavor of the paste has gained more significance now. It has been noted that a well-flavored prophy paste heightens patient satisfaction and provides a good experience throughout the procedure. Hence, you need to stock an array of flavors to ensure that the patient can choose the one that he loves the most.
Mint is a popular flavor
Mint flavor is one of the most popular flavors as people of almost every age group have shown a clear-cut preference for mint above the rest of the flavors. The growing popularity of mint flavor owes to the cooling effect it bestows during the procedure. The menthol present in the mint flavor tricks the brain to believe that the mouth is cool whereas there is actually no change in the temperature. The cooling effect wears off after a few minutes. Another important factor for people finding mint flavor better could be the fact that it reminds them of their regular toothpaste.
For those who are not fascinated by mint flavor, there is a range of very other flavors like marshmallow, chocolate, strawberry or even bubblegum. Flavors like chocolate prophy paste can work wonders in those fussy kids who give a tough time to parents while brushing their teeth daily. Besides, presenting choices make the patients feel more important as they are made to realize that their choice matters in their treatment. After all, who doesn’t like being offered a range of options! Many sites offer free prophy paste samples so you have the option to taste before you purchase.
Choose a flavor that suits you
Regardless of the flavor you choose, you will find the non-splatter formula incorporated in each one of them. This helps in carrying out the procedure in a clean and hygienic manner. Now, is the right time to decide on investing in the most popular prophy paste flavors. Let your patients keep wanting for more sessions of oral prophylaxis.

I think I’m getting old. I have developed an interest in gardening. That’s something for retired people, isn’t it?! Unless you do it for a career, of course.
Discovering the Joys of Gardening
Discovering the Joys of Gardening
I know there are people who enjoy gardening to produce home-grown food, indeed many of my friends have allotments and cultivate beautiful gardens at home. But it was never a thing for me and my husband. We had a small back garden at our old house, with a postage stamp bit of lawn, mostly gravel, and a few potted plants that I half-heartedly nurtured. Now we have a large front and back garden, and a drive that keeps growing weeds, so there is a lot of work to do. I might have to employ a gardener at this rate, I can’t keep up with it!
You know something? I am falling in love with gardening. At first, I felt obliged to tidy the place up and keep it nice in memory of its previous owner, an elderly family man who was proud of his gardens, and by all accounts, kept them very well-tended. I did not want to ruin his good work by letting it grow wild and unkempt. As the months pass and we approach our first-year anniversary in our home, I find myself really getting stuck in with the gardening. I have been digging up weeds, clearing out overgrown flower beds, mowing the lawns, cutting back trees and planting new shrubs and flowers. I am learning every day what we have, I made my first rhubarb crumble with homegrown produce, I have put tomato plants in the greenhouse, and I am trying to remember the names of all the established shrubs and trees we inherited.
Spending time in the garden
Spending time in the garden leaves me feeling energised even when I am tired from a day’s labour. It’s a strange feeling. I am physically worn out by the sheer amount of digging, lifting, cutting and moving around that comes with gardening. But I feel energised and refreshed because I have been outside in nature, breathing in the beautiful scents of my flowers, communing with the earth, and escaping from the busyness of the modern world. I love my gardens. I am excited to see what grows next, and how I can add my own touches. Perhaps I can introduce a water feature, some play equipment, a reiki cabin… what do you suggest?

Beltane blessings, my friends! I know I am late with the greeting, but the season extends well into May as far as I’m concerned. Beltane is about new beginnings, new life and vibrancy.
Beltane Blessings
Belated Beltane Blessings!
I took my daughters and their friend, along with grandparents and the dog, to a local Wakes at the weekend. It was basically a village fete, with a fun dog show (we didn’t win), funfair rides, games, jumble sales, a duck race on the river, and the Maypole. We loved watching a group of local school children perform the Maypole dance, twisting the colourful ribbons around and about.
Later in May it will be our town celebrating as we have our local Rose Fete. My daughters will join the parade with their dance school, perform in the arena, and enjoy the funfair and stalls. This is a beautiful, colourful time of year!
