Itâs the first Monday in August, and Iâm already running on empty.
Like many mums across the UK, I started the summer holidays with grand intentions: lazy mornings, outdoor adventures, time to write my spooky stories while the kids did âindependent activities.â The reality? Weâre three weeks in, and Iâm surrounded by empty snack wrappers, suncream-streaked laundry, and children who alternate between loving hugs and loud bickering.
Why Summer Holidays Are Exhausting (And Magical) for Mums Like Me
Late-Night Chats about Ghost Stories
Still, thereâs something undeniably magical about the summer holidays with kids in the UK. Itâs not just the picnics and ice creamsâitâs the spontaneous trips to the woods, the late-night chats about ghost stories, and the freedom from school schedules. Iâm constantly exhausted, yes, but also grateful for the time we have together.
This year feels extra special. My younger daughter just turned twelve, and she asked for a professional camera and Heartstopper merchandise for her birthday. Sheâs growing up fast, discovering her identity, and capturing the world through a creative lens. Itâs beautiful and bittersweetâwatching your child become themselves is the truest kind of magic.
We marked her birthday with a Lammas celebration, complete with homemade cakes, a garden bonfire, and a quiet family ritual. We even toasted the occasion with traditional meadâdonât worry, just the grown-ups! If youâd like to try something a little different, get ÂŁ5 off when you buy two bottles of mead at the English Heritage Shop. Itâs perfect for your next magical gathering.
Witchy Parenting Journey
I often write about the witchy parenting journeyâraising kids while honouring the wheel of the year, embracing the paranormal, and finding moments of spiritual connection in everyday life. The summer holidays give us time to deepen those bonds. We build fairy houses, talk about haunted dolls, and stay up late watching the stars.
But Iâm not going to sugar-coat itâparenting in the summer is intense. I donât get much rest. The house is chaotic. My writing suffers. And sometimes, I just want ten minutes of silence.
So, if youâre a mum out there feeling the same wayâtorn between gratitude and burnoutâplease know youâre not alone. Youâre doing amazing, and you donât need to do it all perfectly. Youâre creating memories that will last forever, even if the dishes are piling up and the kids wonât stop asking for snacks.
Take a breath. Pour a cup of tea. Maybe light a candle and say a quiet blessing for yourself.
Youâve got this, mama.
đŹ What about you?
How are your summer holidays going? Are you managing to find moments of magic amidst the mayhem?

As July draws to a close and the first whispers of autumn creep into the air, we find ourselves preparing for a double celebration this week.
Friday marks Lammas, the ancient pagan festival of first harvest, and it also happens to be my younger daughterâs 12th birthday. Talk about perfect timing!
Free for All Friday: Lammas Blessings and a Birthday Celebration
Lammas Blessings and a Birthday Celebration
Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh, is a joyful occasion. Itâs the time when we pause to give thanks for the grain harvest, for the earthâs abundance, and for the sunâs warmth that has helped our crops grow strong. Traditionally, Lammas is when our ancestors would bake the first loaves of bread using the new wheat, celebrating the bounty of the land. As a modern Pagan family, we honour this seasonal shift with our own blend of old customs and new traditionsâbread baking, garden blessings, a small feast, and of course, cake for the birthday girl!
This year feels especially poignant. My daughter is growing up fast, stepping closer to her teenage years with a mischievous sparkle in her eye and a strong sense of independence. Sheâs my little firecrackerâcreative, determined, and always full of energy. Weâll be celebrating with party snacks, a mini-Lammas altar, and a few gifts wrapped in witchy paper.
Her birthday list this year reflects her blossoming personality and interests. She has requested a professional cameraâher latest hobby is photography, and sheâs already showing a keen eye for detail and composition, inheriting her grandadâs talent. Alongside that, sheâs hoping for some Heartstopper merchandise, inspired by her love for the books and TV series that have captured her heart. Itâs so special to witness her passions developing, and I canât wait to see where they lead her next.
A little Mead for Lammas
Of course, Lammas wouldnât be complete without a little mead to toast the turning of the Wheel of the Year. And if you’re planning your own celebration this weekend, I have a special offer to share: Get ÂŁ5 off when you purchase 2 bottles of Mead at English Heritage Shop! Why not stock up for your ritual or simply enjoy a glass in the garden as you welcome the harvest season? âĄïž Click here to claim the offer
Mead is one of the most traditional drinks we can enjoy at this time of year. Sweet, golden, and steeped in myth and legend, itâs perfect for a Lammas toast. We like to light a candle, say a blessing over our harvest (even if itâs just the tomatoes on the windowsill), and sip our drinks as the sun sets. Itâs a simple but beautiful ritual that connects us to our ancestors and reminds us to be grateful for what we have.
So, whether youâre celebrating Lammas, a family birthday, or just the beauty of a summerâs day, take a moment to pause and reflect. What are you harvesting in your life right now? What has grown over these past few months, and what are you ready to let go of?
Wishing you a joyful, golden Lammas and a magical weekend ahead. And happy birthday to my sweet wildlingâmay your year be filled with love, laughter, and just a little mischief!
Blessed be. đŸđ

Happiness often feels out of reach. Social media shows polished lives, leaving you to wonder why your days are filled with stress or routine. But real joy does not come from what you buy or how others see you. It starts inside and grows through simple, daily choices.
You do not need a dramatic change. Small actions and new habits can help you find more ease, comfort, and beauty in daily life.
#WitchyWednesday Catherine Green from Goldstone Reiki
Start Your Day With Intention
How you start the day shapes everything that follows. Rather than reaching straight for your phone, take a few minutes to think, reflect, and take in some fresh air outside.
These small rituals set a positive tone. Write down one thing you are looking forward to or a simple goal. It could be as easy as making a healthy breakfast or taking a walk.
Many people find that a morning routine builds momentum. It does not have to be long or complicated. The key is consistency. By doing the same positive action each morning, you remind yourself that you are in control of your mood and your day.
Embrace Mindful Beauty Practices
Beauty routines can be more than just skin deep.
They are a chance to slow down, pay attention, and care for yourself. Whether you are just using a daily moisturizer, trying out a new face mask, or trying a new color of lipstick, treat this as time just for you.
Notice the textures and scents. Take a few deep breaths as you apply each product.
Fast-paced days often leave little time for self-care. Look for products that fit your lifestyle. Fast-absorbing THC gummies & drops are becoming more popular for those who want to relax and unwind without waiting hours to feel an effect. These options may help create moments of calm, but always read the label and know what works for your body.
Look Within for Lasting Happiness
Lasting happiness comes from your thoughts, not your surroundings. It is easy to look outside for solutions, but turning inward gives you more control.
Try keeping a gratitude journal. Each night, write down three things you appreciate, no matter how small. Over time, this habit shifts your focus from what is missing to what is good.
It can also help to read or listen to positive stories. If you want to learn more about self-discovery, try using reflection, meditation, or gentle movement can all support a more balanced state of mind. The more you practice, the easier it gets to see the good in your life.
Conclusion
You do not need to overhaul your life to feel better. Lasting happiness starts with small choicesâhow you begin your morning, the way you treat your skin, and the thoughts you let stay in your mind. Pick one new habit and try it for a week. Notice how it feels. Let your routine support you, not stress you. With daily care and a little patience, you will find that happiness grows from the inside out.

To work while traveling is a dream for some people, and itâs easier than you might think if you are willing to make some changes. Being able to explore the globe is a privilege that not everyone has, and you can even do some good while indulging your passion.
So where do you begin? From taking advantage of freelance positions to looking for job roles that actually require remote work candidates, here are some handy suggestions to help get you started.
I have not been this relaxed in a long time!
Sign Up for Remote Work Platforms
As a professional, you can turn your expertise into a flexible lifestyle while you travel the world. Even if you have gone down the academic path, you can earn money while being location independent. Online platforms such as Classful offer unique and intuitive ways to stay in the education profession remotely. Whether you want to engage with yoga or teach political science, online platforms for teaching allow you to do just that, all while satisfying your globe-trotting!
Craft Freelance Work While Traveling
According to Famewall, there are over 18 million users on Upwork alone. There is a lot of competition. However, you can establish a name for yourself by using freelancing. You donât have to use a platform like Fiverr, but freelance work lends itself well to being a digital nomad:
You can easily predict how much travel will cost and how much you need to work.
There is the potential to use multiple income streams to fund your travel expenses.
You can also craft content, such as courses, to make passive and steady income.
Move Around for Seasonal Roles
Thereâs always some action somewhere, and seasonal roles can be a savvy way to get paid while exploring exotic or stunning locations. For instance, ski resorts are always looking for enthusiastic staff for the hospitality needs of guests or skilled employees who can assist with cold-climate activities. On the flip side, there are usually tons of seasonal jobs available in and around resorts at popular vacation destinations from spring into fall to help with holidaymakers.
Fund Your Travel with a Blog
Blogging isnât as easy as people think and requires a lot of dedication. However, it can be a relatively steady income stream when you get it right, which is why it is a go-to choice for many digital nomads. A blog can engage multiple income streams and provide passive income through content creation and marketing. Examples of income from blogging include Google Ads, affiliate marketing, and crafting sponsored posts. However, you will need to master SEO, too!
Find a Good Fit for Work While Traveling
There are an estimated 500 million digital nomads, and many more people who explore the world as part of their jobs. Therefore, you can make a good living and build a career when planning for your future when you work while traveling in various roles and jobs globally.Â
Target roles that require travel
There are, of course, jobs that require you to travel. Great examples include airline cabin crew and even long-distance courier jobs. However, you can even land a travel role as an au pair.
Embrace popular digital nomad jobs
Maybe you want more freedom as a digital nomad. This can be an excellent way to work and explore on your own terms. ICT, content creation, and media editing are popular DN roles.
Become a part of the experience
There are many roles where you can become a part of the travel experience itself. While specialist skills may be involved, such as piloting air and sea vehicles, there are other roles too.
There are tons of jobs that can be done remotely, but experience while traveling can be very rewarding. Industries that require travel as part of the job often pay well and allow you to see things that most people never do. All it takes is the courage to take that step into the unknown.
Explore Roles on Cruise Ships
Further to sea vehicles, how about cruise ship work?
Consider an eCommerce Store
Running a business no longer has to be hands-on! With eCommerce, it is possible to operate a successful company without leaving your armchair! Online stores are pretty profitable these days as more and more people turn to web-based retail for the things they need. eBay, Amazon, and Etsy are excellent platforms for selling your wares. However, you can also combine blogging, marketing, and SEO skills for an online dropshipping store within a given niche.
Find Remote Positions to Work While Traveling
Despite the groanings of old and out-of-touch CEOs, remote work is a vital part of the modern workplace economy. You can also elevate and enhance productivity and job satisfaction by working remotely, and there are some roles that suit the hybrid or remote work paradigm well:
Recruiters in tech, digital marketing, and data analysis often offer remote work roles.
You can also become a virtual assistant to aid busy execs while traveling the world.
Data entry might not be for everyone, but it almost always offers remote positions.
Work Exchange and Volunteering
Perhaps not entirely the best way to make money, you can still work and travel as a volunteer or through work exchange programs. However, when you use services that specialize in these, you have minimal costs. For example, with services such as Workaway, you get paid in free accommodation. This means you can stay at various interesting places all over the world, and explore as much or as little as you like, depending on what you can reasonably afford.Â
Summary
Signing up for remote jobs is a popular way to work while traveling the world with minimal restrictions and ultimate freedom. Of course, there are also jobs that fit well and even require travel as part of your role, such as working on a ship, plane, or even as an au pair. However, if you just want the chance to visit interesting places and meet new people, work exchange and volunteer programs offer the chance to see the world, even if the earning potential is minimal.

LGBT werewolf fantasy story “It’s Complicated (The Redcliffe Novels)” by Catherine Green
As we near the end of the school year and get excited for our long-awaited summer holiday, the atmosphere in our house is a delightful mix of anticipation, chaos, and â as always â a dash of spooky fun.
This weekâs Mummy Monday post veers into curious and macabre territory thanks to my wonderfully weird elder daughter, who is growing ever more fascinated with all things mysterious, ghostly, and slightly disturbing (I wonder where she gets it fromâŠ). She recently stumbled across something rather unusual during one of her online explorations and promptly spent her pocket money on an Assassinâs Teapot. Yes, you read that right!
Mummy Monday: The Curious Case of the Assassinâs Teapot
Also known as the âMagic Wine Potâ or the âYuetang Pot,â this clever vessel hails from ancient China, where it was used for entertainment, mischief â and, if legend is to be believed â the occasional nefarious purpose. It appears to be a perfectly ordinary teapot from the outside, but it hides a dark secret: it contains two chambers, allowing the user to pour two different liquids from the same spout. The trick lies in how you cover or uncover the holes while pouring. With some practice, you can serve tea â or something far more suspicious â to unsuspecting guests.
Historically, it was said to be used by assassins to offer a friendly drink⊠that might turn deadly depending on the guest. Naturally, this sinister folklore captured my daughterâs imagination immediately.
Spooky Weekend Shenanigans
Once the teapot arrived, it quickly became the star of our weekend. My daughter filled one chamber with fizzy orange and the other with lemonade. She gleefully performed her âassassinâs duties,â pouring âmystery drinksâ for me and her dad, complete with dramatic flair and villainous cackles. The look of glee on her face as we nervously sipped our concoctions was absolutely priceless.
âI might have poisoned you,â she grinned, handing over a cup. âOr maybe not. Youâll never know!â
Thankfully, the only things lurking in our drinks were fizzy bubbles and a lot of sugar â no arsenic in sight!
Fun and Spooky Bonding Moment
It was such a fun and spooky bonding moment. We all agreed that this quirky teapot has secured its place among our familyâs oddities â right alongside haunted dolls, spirit boxes, and our ever-growing crystal collection.
If youâre raising your own little goth or you just fancy adding a mysterious flourish to your next family gathering, I thoroughly recommend the Assassinâs Teapot. Itâs a perfect blend of spooky, clever, and endlessly entertaining. You can grab one here: https://amzn.to/44H2EB6
Have a mischievous Monday, spooky mums and dads â and beware whatâs in your teacupâŠ

Welcome back to Witchy Wednesday, my friends. This week weâre turning our attention to the celestial beauty of the July Full Moon, also known as the Buck Moon. Named for the time of year when male deer begin to regrow their antlers, this moon is a powerful symbol of regeneration, strength, and transformation.
The Buck Moon rises in the heart of summer, when the days are long, the fields are heavy with growth, and the energy of the Earth pulses with vibrant life. In the Wheel of the Year, we are moving from Litha (the Summer Solstice) towards Lammas (1st August), and now is the time to take bold action, reflect on your journey, and align with your true power.
This is a potent time for manifestation magic, especially related to personal goals, inner strength, physical healing, and spiritual growth.
đ Witchy Wednesday: The Magical Power of the July Buck Moon đ
âš Magical Themes of the Buck Moon
Here are some of the themes and energies you can work with under this full moon:
Reclaiming personal power
Strength and resilience
Growth and transformation
Courage to make bold decisions
Physical and emotional renewal
Connection with animal guides (especially deer and stag)
đż Full Moon Ritual Spell: Antler Moon Empowerment
This simple yet powerful ritual can be performed on the night of the Full Moon or within 24 hours either side.
You will need:
A white or gold candle
A small bowl of water (moon-charged if possible)
A crystal for strength (e.g. tigerâs eye, carnelian, or clear quartz)
A bay leaf or piece of paper and a pen
Optional: incense (frankincense, sandalwood, or rosemary), antler or stag imagery, outdoor space
đ Ritual Steps:
Create Your Sacred Space Cleanse your space using incense, sound, or visualisation. Sit comfortably with your items before you.
Light the Candle Say: âBy the light of the Buck Moon, I call in strength and transformation.â
Hold Your Crystal Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Feel the energy of the Full Moon above you. Imagine it filling your body with golden light, igniting your inner strength.
Write Your Intention On the bay leaf or paper, write a word or sentence that represents what you are calling in. For example: âI reclaim my power and move forward with courage.â
Empower the Water Dip your fingers in the bowl and flick a little water over your intention as you say: âAs water nourishes the Earth, may this intention take root and grow strong.â
Burn or Bury Your Intention If safe to do so, burn the bay leaf or paper in a fireproof dish, or bury it in the earth. Visualise your intention being released to the universe.
Give Thanks Place your crystal near the candle. Say: âThank you, Buck Moon, for your strength and guidance. So mote it be.â
đ Final Thoughts
The July Full Moon is an ideal time to reconnect with your wild selfâthe version of you that is confident, brave, and unafraid to shine. Let this lunar energy guide you to stand tall like the stag, proud and strong, ready to face whatever lies ahead.
Donât forget to charge your crystals, set out moon water, and perhaps take a moonlit walk if the skies are clear. The universe is listening.
The school summer holidays are almost here, and this year my girls and I are doing something truly specialâweâre flying off to Skiathos for a long-awaited dream holiday!
Thanks to a little help from my wonderful Mum, we managed to book a trip that not only lets us attend a close friendâs wedding but also gives us all a much-needed break from the whirlwind of everyday life.
Mummy Monday: Looking Ahead to Our Summer Escape (and Dreaming of Past Getaways) đâïž
Looking Ahead to Our Summer Escape
Booking the holiday wasnât easyâthose of you with autistic partners might understand the stress that comes with big changes and travel plans. But we got there in the end, and now Iâm allowing myself to feel the excitement. Iâm even daring to think about a little me-time while weâre there. Sunshine, sea air, and maybe a quiet moment with a book… it sounds like bliss.
As I pack our bags and prepare for take-off, Iâve been reflecting on our family holidays over the years. While this will be our second time flying abroad as a family, weâve had so many lovely getaways closer to home. Some of my favourite memories come from our stays at Haven caravan parks around the UK. Theyâve always been a reliable, relaxing option that suits my neurodiverse familyâs needs.
We ventured up to Scotland
A few years ago, we ventured up to Scotland with our dog and spent a peaceful week enjoying a dog-friendly caravan break. The change of pace was just what we neededâlots of walks, quiet evenings, and the kind of simplicity that helps us reconnect without the noise of daily life. It reminded me how valuable it is to find holidays that fit youânot just your budget, but your familyâs unique needs, energy levels, and sensitivities.
If you’re dreaming of a break thatâs fun, flexible, and perfect for families (furry friends included), I highly recommend exploring what Haven has to offer. They have a wonderful range of dog-friendly caravan holidays across the UK, and you can start planning your own escape right here: đ Explore dog-friendly holidays with Haven
Hereâs to sunshine, laughter, and a few peaceful moments for all of us this summer. Iâll be back soon with tales from our Greek adventure…

Tomorrow marks ARFID Awareness Day here in the UK, and today I feel compelled to speak upânot just for my daughter, but for every family fighting a silent battle behind closed doors.
When “Just Eat Something” Isnât That Simple: A Motherâs Journey with ARFID đŁ đ
A Motherâs Journey with ARFID
My beautiful girl is fourteen years old. Sheâs clever, creative, and full of promise. But since she was weaned as a toddler, weâve been caught in an exhausting cycle of worry, frustration, and helplessness over her eating. Health visitors, doctors, familyâall reassured me she was simply a fussy eater. âSheâll grow out of it,â they said. âJust be firm.â I trusted them. I waited. But the truth is, she never did.
Now, over a decade later, she is malnourished, exhausted, and in pain. She is angry, frustrated, and scared. Her body is suffering from the effects of not eating enough to fuel her growing frame. Her mental health is crumbling under the pressure. And still, people continue to say: âJust eat something.â
Let me tell you: if she could, she would.
My daughter lives with ARFIDâAvoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. Itâs not a phase. Itâs not a tantrum. Itâs not stubbornness. It is a serious eating disorder that often goes unrecognised because it doesnât fit the typical patterns we associate with anorexia or bulimia. Itâs not about body image. Itâs about fear, sensory overload, trauma, andâsometimesâsomething we canât even name. It is physically and psychologically debilitating.
The last twelve months have been especially hard. Her ability to eat has deteriorated. Her safe foods have narrowed down to nearly nothing. She cries in frustration because she wants to eat, but her body says no. She is in constant discomfort, sheâs always tired, and I watch the light slowly fading from her eyes.
As her mum, I am doing everything I can. Iâve offered holistic support. Iâve tried alternative therapies. I make every meal an invitation, not a demand. I listen. I hug. I reassure. But truthfully? I am lonely. I am exhausted. I am terrified. Iâve spent so long blaming myself, wondering what I did wrong, wishing I could fix this with a warm meal and a kiss on the forehead.
Now weâre fighting to access help through the NHS, submitting referral forms, hoping someone in the system will take us seriously. But the reality is, we may end up paying privatelyâsomehow, from somewhereâto get her the specialist support she needs before her body gives up.
ARFID Awareness Day
ARFID Awareness Day matters because stories like ours are far too common, and yet barely heard. There is still so much misunderstanding and stigma. Parents are dismissed. Children are labelled. Entire families are left to cope alone with something they canât even explain properly.
If you are reading this and you recognise the signsâif your child is struggling and youâve been told theyâll âgrow out of itââplease know you are not alone. And if youâve never heard of ARFID until now, please take a moment to learn. You could be the voice of understanding that changes someoneâs life.
I will continue to fight for my daughter. I will advocate for change. I will hold her hand in the darkest moments. And I will speak up, because silence helps no one.

This Mummy Monday, I want to share a few simple tips to help you freshen up your garden space, ready for lazy afternoons, spontaneous barbecues, or even a touch of moonlight magic under the stars…
Mummy Monday: Freshen Up Your Garden This Summer!
đŒ 5 Easy Ways to Refresh Your Garden this Summer:
1. Tidy Up the Edges A neat lawn edge or defined border makes a huge difference. Use a cordless strimmer to quickly tidy grass edges or clear around flower beds for an instant facelift.
2. Introduce Colourful Planters You donât need to spend a fortuneâgrab a few bargain planters from the garden centre, fill them with cheerful annuals like petunias, marigolds, or busy lizzies, and dot them around your patio or doorstep.
3. Create a Seating Nook Even if you only have a small garden, designate a cosy corner with a bench or a couple of chairs. Add cushions, solar fairy lights, and perhaps a citronella candle to keep it comfy and bug-free!
4. Add a Water Feature The sound of water brings calm and clarity. A solar-powered fountain or a small birdbath adds atmosphere and invites wildlife.
5. Upgrade Your Tools Sometimes, the secret to a lovely garden is the right equipment! I recently discovered the range from Einhell, and itâs honestly made my summer gardening so much easier.
