My Review for “Tarot and the Cube of Space: Key to the Cosmos” by Oderic
Wow, this is one meaty tome! The hardback book is well presented and easy to read with clear text on a fresh, white background. It is accompanied with beautiful colour illustrations demonstrating the Cube of Space model at various stages, and then followed up with a vibrant colour image of the Tarot cards from Tarot of Eternal Being for reference. You don’t need a deck of Tarot cards to read this book, but I think you will want to have one so that you can practise what is discussed in the chapters.
The Key to the Cosmos comes from ancient Hebrew principles relating to the Kabalah and Tree of Life, and this book describes the Tarot cards as “Keys.” So, you have twenty-two Keys of the Major Arcana and fifty-six Keys of the Minor Arcana, corresponding with the Tarot suits of cards, their images, and their number placements. This book goes on to explain where each card sits in relation to the Cube of Space, with detailed descriptions of ancient interpretations and references to other cultural and historical influences including Greek mythology, Egyptian history, Celtic lore, Western, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern influences.
I will need to read this book in great detail and make notes for my personal development because I personally struggle to understand esoteric meanings relating to the Cosmos, the Universe and how to interpret Tarot readings on a deeper subconscious level. It is interesting for me to note that I have received books for review that discuss this deeper esoteric level of understanding, and I take that as a sign from the Universe that my lessons are changing to correspond with my view of the world and the universe beyond. I am eager to learn, and I know that “Tarot and the Cube of Space” will provide a lot of knowledge to help widen my understanding of Tarot and how we can use it to support our personal development, spiritual growth and how we conduct ourselves in the human world.
If you are a beginner to Tarot cards and the esoteric, I do recommend that you read this book, but I suggest you take your time with it and really get to know the subject matter that it discusses. The author has included detailed notes around everything that is discussed in this book, along with a suggested Cube of Space Tarot spread that you can use for divination and to practise what you have learned. As a more advanced Tarot reader, I think this book will help me to reconnect after a period of separation from my craft, and I feel ready for the history lesson that “Tarot and the Cube of Space” will impart.
