6 Ways to Remain Sane When Working from Home in 2021

If you are on this page, the chances are that you are working from home and want to know how you can improve your productivity and retain your sanity.

Before the coronavirus pandemic changed the way people work, working from home was a concept that some only imagined. Completing tasks at the comfort of your couch, sending job emails with your furry friend cuddled next to you, and your kids walking in your home office with demands, etc., is the new normal.

However, you may be finding it hard to juggle various projects from your home. Or maybe time management is becoming an issue. Staying sane amid everything is now a challenge. But do not worry; this article will help you find inspiration on how to retain your sanity when working from home.

Take breaks

There are different breaks when working from the office, such as lunchtime and taking time off the desk to consult with a colleague. On the other hand, working from home is a bit different. You will find yourself taking fewer breaks than you should. As much as this makes you more productive, it can take a toll on your well-being.

From having your lunch in front of your computer to staying for hours without stretching, working from home makes it easier to get carried away. The entire process can result in emotional, mental, and physical drain. To be safe, give yourself the necessary breaks to refuel and reset.

Prioritize self-care

Before you go for ten hours of work without food, ask yourself about the result. Will you wake up the next day fresh for work if you sit on your computer past midnight? Knowing when to stop is part of self-care.

Accordingly, you can give yourself a treat after work by taking a long, warm shower or scheduling a weekend family outing. Lastly, make sure you work out to get your body in top shape. Physical exercise will help you remain in good shape and relieve the mental drain and stress associated with working from home.

Get out of the house

Another problem with working from home is that you can go for days without stepping outside unless when going shopping. Here is the reality: you find it hard to leave your house with time as you get drowned in your work to complete projects in time.

This setup is meant to make you more productive. But sometimes, you need the change of environment to rest and become even more effective. Schedule regular outings, meet friends, and plan dates to ensure you get out of the house. You will realize that the break helps your brain relax and reset.

Establish Social Opportunities

Working from home can support good productivity levels while it may also enable you to spend more time with your family. However, it can be a lonely existence when you are separated from the rest of the team. Where possible, you should use Zoom meetings and team messaging apps to touch base with the office or other workers.

A few minutes of discussing non-work matters can also boost your happiness levels, which is shown to increase productivity too. In addition to a social element, you must ensure that you are supported with little luxuries. If you vape, for example, choosing Delta 8 Disposables can deliver a better experience that also reduces stress. Similarly, if you love coffee, invest in a machine for the home.

Small victories throughout the day will make the entire working from home model feel far more enjoyable.

Create a dedicated workspace

Creating a dedicated workspace helps you become more organized and relaxed. However small, ensure your home office provides space to keep your work supplies and equipment.

Your workspace should have the basic items you need for work, such as an internet connection, a computer, a comfortable seat and desk, and other tools. This place should be the link between you, your work, and the outside world.

You may want to set up in one corner or dedicate an entire room for work. Whatever your choice, it should be somewhere to keep you away from the rest of the family.

Schedule work

Meeting deadlines is one of the most challenging things when working from home. In most cases, you find yourself rushing to complete tasks in time. Sometimes you may be tempted to multitask with jobs piling on your desk. In the end, you find yourself drained, stressed, and exhausted.

To avoid this situation, learn to plan your work. Have weekly schedules and a daily to-do list in order of urgency to help you focus on what is most important beforehand.  Scheduling your work will also make you more productive by staying on task and getting things done.

Create a boundary

Another challenge if working from home is distractions. Now that you are home expect kids to pop up with their demands in the middle of work or skimping on work to catch your favorite TV show.

Without things like the end of working hours, you may also find yourself doing it on and on. Create boundaries that define your work time from family time. For instance, make your friends aware of your working hours to avoid interruptions. The same should apply to family members. Lastly, minimize distractions, such as noise, to allow you to focus on your tasks.

The bottom line

Working from home can make you more productive, but it can also threaten your sanity. If you want to avoid stress, create the ideal home office and make it comfortable for all your work-related activities.

Anxiety Is More Common Than You Think

No one is exempt from anxiety. Everyone will at some point in their lives, experience an episode of anxiety. But why? Why is it that we almost have no other option but to go through our own episode of anxiety? Why do we have these moments of doubt, self-loathing and worry about things we cannot control?

It seems like this is nothing new, but we just don’t have as many options to deal with it. Once upon a time when people felt anxious, they could go for a walk through a forest or field, they could travel around the country for very little and they could try different things in order to find a profession. Nowadays with bills and responsibilities, it feels like we don’t have time to slow down.

Does anxiety play a role?

Some say that anxiety plays a role in how we look at the world. The body is producing chemicals and thoughts that make us feel anxious because it’s trying to warn us of something. There is a lot of conflicting research for this, but it seems like anxiety is something that was part of our survival mechanism. Imagine our ancestors wandering into a forest. They might not be able to cognitively explain why they feel the need to back out slowly, but chances are on some subconscious level they sense a predator watching them. Nowadays anxiety is far more complex, and it could be something that is there to warn us of something that is not safe for us.

How many feel it?

At least 18% of the American population feel anxiety. That is about 40 million people. So there is 1/5 of a chance that you may feel anxious more than other people, making you part of that large minority. When you think about it, those odds are not in our favor. 1 out of every 5 people will have some kind of anxiety-related disorder, changing the way they behave, think and see the world. This will then affect the people around them and this can have a knock-on effect. Anxiety can change whole societies if there are enough people with anxiety located in a small area. So why is it so common these days?

The social fabric

One of the reasons is, the social fabric has never been so thin. So many people are in total disagreement with each other, there is social upheaval in politics, economics and in culture. If you feel these things affect you and you want to know how to deal with them, speak with professionals like sunnysideclinic.com.au that actually help people with anxiety. If you suffer from social anxiety, this kind of service could help you to understand why and how to deal with it.

Anxiety will affect you or someone you know sooner or later. It’s best to figure out why, what it could be telling you and if you think it’s being triggered by something external.

#Ad: My Spiritual Journey: Guidance from a Psychic Reader

Have you had a spiritual reading from a psychic or professional Tarot card reader before? Maybe you are curious to try it and receive guidance for your personal challenges.

I have had several readings over the years from different people, mostly at Mind, Body and Spirit events in the UK. I never got round to having a reading via phone, but I was recently offered the opportunity.

My Spiritual Journey: Guidance from a Psychic Reader

Ask the Answer is an online community of psychic readers that provide guidance for you in all areas of your life. They work with ancestors, spirit guides, Tarot Cards, aromatherapy, and other tools, and some of the readers are certified Life Coaches, Astrologers and Mediums. Whatever you need, I am sure you will find it on Ask the Answer.

My phone reading was with Yvette, and I wasn’t sure what to expect or how we would begin our communication. Yvette immediately put me at ease when I told her this was my first phone reading. Her energy was warm and comforting, and I almost felt like we were old friends sitting together. She explained her reading process, which includes a Tarot card reading. Yvette asked for my star sign to make her psychic connection, and then she asked how I wanted to choose the cards. I requested that she choose them at random once I had asked her to stop shuffling the cards.

My personal life is in a strange place and that came out in the reading. I had barely spoken when Yvette asked if I was dealing with concerns relating to money and relationships. My answer was yes. I tried to elaborate but she stopped me, saying that Spirit would communicate what she needed to know for our conversation. She told me each of the cards as she pulled them from the deck, and we engaged in a lively discussion as she read for me. My reading proved transformational, confirming what has been in my mind recently, and everything that she told me made perfect sense. I have been through a long period of emotional struggle and coping with challenging people, but I felt that my time had come to move forward. Yvette confirmed this, repeating the words, “tension,” “transformation” and “resolution” during our reading.

The phone call ended quite abruptly when the allocated time had lapsed, and I was surprised to be cut off mid-sentence from my reader. I was given the option to pay for additional time on our call, but I declined, although I was very tempted to continue as I really enjoyed the reading. Personally, I feel able to consult my own Tarot cards to continue the spiritual conversation, but if you are new to psychic readings or you don’t feel confident to seek your guidance internally, you would do well to try an online psychic reader like the ones at Ask the Answer. The phone reading lasts for around 20 minutes.

To make it more affordable, Ask the Answer offer membership to their Purple Hearts Club, where you earn credits from your readings to save up for a free phone reading, and you have access to lots of free content such as virtual readings, special offers, horoscopes and information about all aspects of spiritual guidance and personal coaching.

My Vampire Boyfriend by paranormal author Catherine Green

Short story excerpt from “My Vampire Boyfriend (A Redcliffe Anthology)”

“Why must you run away from our wolf, Jessica?”

I opened my eyes as I heard the voice of my animal familiar, Suri, drifting through my head. Rinsing shampoo out of my hair, I angled my head forward so the jet of hot water hit my shoulder blades. The shower pressure was nice and strong, and I took a moment to savour the sensation, almost like a massage. My shoulders were very tense these days.

“I didn’t run away from him, Suri,” I said out loud to the empty bathroom, “He was busy with Simon and I didn’t want to intrude.”

“He always has time for us,” my snow tiger insisted, “You are his mate. You come before all others in his pack, and you know it.”

I shuddered even with the heat of the shower enveloping me. This magic was very strong, and very potent. It frightened me, not least because I was the one that had made the connection with Danny, and I didn’t know how. Apparently, my animal familiar was powerful in her own right, but she remained trapped in a magical world somewhere within my psyche. I couldn’t explain it to anyone, although I had tried with my human best friend Liz. It was difficult.

“I am not his mate,” I insisted, smoothing conditioner into my hair, “I am his friend. And I am his brother’s girlfriend.”

Adult themes, sex scenes and spooky creatures

I am Now a Crazy Cat (and Dog) Lady!

That’s right, I am a crazy cat lady! We adopted our kittens just over a week ago and they are settling in very well with our dog.

I have never lived with cats before, but my friends persuaded me that it was a good idea and here we are.

I am Now a Crazy Cat (and Dog) Lady!

Cora and Nora are officially my daughters’ cats and they have decided that I am “Big Mummy” which I find rather amusing. Our dog is making sure to stake his claim over me, but I am managing a few cuddles here and there. The kittens have had their first vaccinations and are confident little creatures, roaming the living room and climbing up and down the furniture. They have investigated the TV, behind the sofa, on the windowsills and every other surface they could climb onto. They are adorable and I am very glad we decided to bring them home.

So begins our new adventure as a cat and dog family. Do you have cats and dogs together? Share your stories in the comments.

Tips To Help Your Child Prepare for School

Parents, have you noticed that your child is starting to pack up their bedroom in preparation for school? It’s a tough time of year because they’re excited about the new opportunities but sad to leave home. One way to help them get ready is by making sure they are prepared for school and know what to expect.

Here are some tips on how parents can prepare their children for back-to-school!

Help Them Choose the Right Career

Consider their strengths. What are they good at? If someone loves math, maybe a career in engineering or science is for them. They might also enjoy being an engineer for one of the many construction companies now operating locally. Many professions require specific degrees and certificates, so it’s essential to find out about requirements before making any decisions.

Keep in mind that today’s world is ever-changing. A couple of years ago, what might have been true for your child may not be the case now. So be open to different career paths and discuss them with your school counselor or mentor if you’re unsure what will work best for their interests, skillset, and experience level.

Pick the Right Accommodation

Accommodation is a small but important detail that many parents don’t consider. You want to pick an accommodation for your child that will be helpful and fit regardless of the situation.

Student accommodation can be challenging. It would help if you found a comfortable and safe place where your child can thrive in their education. Ensure you consider all the necessary factors before settling on your final choice. Be open-minded and flexible in your options.

Teach Them How To Get Extra Cash While in School

Your kids might not be able to handle a full-time job while in school, but they could still earn some extra cash at the end of each day. The best way to do this is by working part-time after school hours and on weekends. To prepare your child for work, you need to look into a few things you can help with during the summer months.

  • Teach them how to clean up after themselves as they are likely going to need a job with some cleaning involved
  • Help them practice basic math and reading skills so that they can be ready for the work environment
  • Show your child what their break times should look like, when it is okay to speak to their coworkers, and how they should act around the public

Teach Them About Peer Influence

One important thing for kids starting in kindergarten or preschool is understanding peer influence: how their friends can influence their behaviour.

A child’s friends can have a significant impact on their behavior. For example, if your son is playing on the playground and his friend has just told him that it’s not okay to share his toys because he might get “kicked,” you’ll want to introduce this idea of peer influence to him. Likewise, if your daughter comes home with a new hairstyle that she didn’t like and has been told by her friends to “fit in,” you’ll need to have this conversation as well.  Teaching your child about peer influence can help them stay grounded when they interact with other people’s opinions, so they don’t feel pressured into accepting everything just because their friends are doing it.

Conclusion

Always keep in mind that every child is different, and what works for one may not work as well with another, so please experiment and stick to the beneficial things.

How To Help Your Children Prepare For Exams

Preparing your children for all walks of life will help them understand what to expect and help them to deal with the circumstances. Preparing your children for their first pet dog to preparing them for schooling involves a lot of patience and understanding. Some children might take longer to take the tips on board while others may not fully understand.

Exams are a part and parcel of every child’s life and helping them prepare will reduce the pressure and help them achieve the best results. If you want to help your children excel in their exams, here is how to help them prepare.

Image by F1 Digitals from Pixabay

Home mock tests

Mock tests are a great way to help your children prepare for their exams. No matter their age, it will help them to prepare for exams so that they know what to expect.

For instance, if your children are in secondary school it can help to encourage them to complete 11+ mock tests at home will help improve their knowledge and prepare them for exams.

Talk about their worries

Most children will feel slight worry before exams. It is common to get nervous and feel overwhelmed. Your child might bottle up those emotions, which won’t help their nerves.

Whether or not your children have spoken to you about their worries, it will help to ask them. If you show that you are interested and want to help, then it will encourage them to open up.

Be their cheerleader

It is common to have doubts when it comes to exam times. Even if your child has done lots of preparation and revision, they may still doubt themselves, which might decrease their confidence. A lack of confidence could hinder the results of your child’s exam.

Be there for them and cheer them on. It will help them realise that they are capable and can achieve the best results possible.

Relax them

The more relaxed your children can feel, the better their experience will be. Nerves can overwhelm the mind and impact the results.

Helping them relax could involve encouraging them to exercise, taking them for a day out, and doing their favourite activities.

Form good study habits

Helping your child form good study habits will help them revise as much as possible. Although revision can overwhelm the mind with information, it will help the information to stick. The more information your child takes in, the more they will remember for the exam.

Good study habits involve prioritising studying over socialising and studying at the right times. If a child has a busy day, then it is best not to try and fit studying in. instead, you should help your children choose study days so that they can focus.

Limit screen time

Speaking of habits, spending too much time on screens can help your child focus on their studies.

Limiting their screen time (on TV, computers, tablets, and phones) will help them spend more time studying and less time-wasting their hours on social media or video games. Although they should have some time on screens or entertaining themselves, it won’t help if it bites into their study time.

Review their past tests

Reviewing their past tests will help you acknowledge what areas of subjects your children struggle with. When you acknowledge their weaknesses, you can help them improve them.

If your child does not bring their tests home, you can request them from their teachers. Your child may not want to share their tests with you. However, their teachers will be more than happy to share them with you so that you can help your child with studying outside of school.

Get help from a private tutor

If you lack the time or the knowledge to help your children study outside of school, then you might want to consider hiring a private tutor.

A private tutor that specialises in the subject that they are struggling with, or need extra help with, will ensure that they can understand the subject better and get the most out of their preparation.

Set them a sleep schedule

Although you might not want to baby your teenagers, they will need plenty of rest to recuperate for exams.

Scheduling their sleep pattern will ensure that they get plenty of rest. You could set a time for them to settle down so that they get around 7 to 8 hours of sleep per week. If they refuse or find it useless, educate them on the benefits of sleep and head to bed to settle down at the same time as them.

Here’s What To Do Before Selling Your House

Selling your house to move on to the next home is an exciting time. Before you move on and sell your current home, there are some things to do.

To get the most out of your house sale and make the process as seamless as possible, keep reading.

Image by Paul Brennan from Pixabay

Find out you can afford to move

You might want to move because your family is growing or you want a new start. However, before you decide to put your home up for sale, you will want to make sure that you can afford to move.

To find out how much you can borrow, use MortgageCalculator.uk. There, you can get a true estimate of what house prices you should be looking at and can afford.

If your house needs a lot of work, consider a renovation

A home renovation is not a waste of time. It will boost the interest of future buyers as it will show that you have cared for your home. Plus, there will be less to do when the buyers move in, which will make the moving process more convenient for them.

Updating the larger rooms such as the kitchen and bathroom could add a lot of value to the home and boost the interest of buyers.

Repairs

As well as renovating, it will help to repair anything that is broken or damaged before selling your home. Your buyers will soon notice things that are not as they should be as it might put them off of the purchase.

Things to repair and ensure are in good condition include:

  • The roof
  • The electrics
  • Floors and walls
  • Damp on the ceilings
  • Taps
  • Pipes
  • Light fixtures

Declutter

Before moving home, it will be a good idea to declutter. Not only will this free up space and look more appealing to the buyers. But, it will also mean that you have less stuff to take with you.

Decluttering every room and cupboard will ensure that you only take what you really want and need.

Clean the windows

Dirty windows will make your home uninviting to buyers. It will also hinder its lighting, which could make the home feel smaller.

Simply maintaining the cleanliness of the windows will ensure that your home is in top condition whenever buyers want to look around.

Turn on the lights

Turning on the lights inside and outside of the home is key for evening viewers. If buyers turn up and your house is not well-lit, it might make it appear uninviting.

Lighting your front porch creates a welcoming feel. Then, turning on all of the lights inside will allow the buyers to view the space to its full potential.

Replace the bulbs

Speaking of lighting, if your bulbs have dimmed over the years, it might make your home feel smaller and darker.

Replacing the bulbs with brighter alternatives will ensure to maximise the look of the home.

Freshen up the paint

Freshening up the paintwork can make your interior look as good as new again. Painting the window seals, door frames, and walls could be all it takes to make your home feel welcoming and homely.

You should also consider freshening up the paint on the exterior too. The doors and fences should be fresh and homely to boost its curb appeal.

Boost your home’s curb appeal

On the topic of curb appeal, boosting the look of your home’s exterior is crucial to get the most interest from buyers.

The curb appeal of your home refers to what the buyers see from the outside. If your home lacks character or appeal, you might struggle to attract buyers.

Here are some tips for boosting your home’s curb appeal:

  • Cut the lawn: a cut lawn shows buyers that you maintain your home. This could reflect that you care for your home and pique a buyers interest to come in and have a look.
  • Update the plants: as well as the lawn, you will want your flowers to look fresh too. If your flowers have withered away, they won’t look good on your exterior. Adding colour and vibrancy to your garden will make your home more attractive.
  • Add a pathway: when buyers come to look at your home, they won’t want to walk over the freshly cut grass or struggle to get to the door. Thus, adding a pathway will make your home inviting and easier to access. It is a feature future buyers might want. Thus, adding it will tick it off of their list and increase their interest.
  • Use lights: lighting up your home during the evenings is great when people drive past at night. If your home isn’t lit up, then a passerby may not even recognise that your home is for sale. Lights also add security to a home and make it appear more inviting. When a house has lights on, it will likely work to deter intruders, which increases the security of the home.
  • CCTV: speaking of security, it will also make your home safer if you have CCTV on the property. Showing that the home is safe will give the buyers peace of mind that they will be and feel safe when they move in.
  • Stage your outdoor space: there is no harm in staging your outdoor space to attract as many people as possible. Making it looks its best when it goes on the market (even if you have neglected it when you lived there) means that buyers will see the home in its best light.
  • Pressure wash: pressure washing your exterior will make it look as good as new. Whether you have stone water features, patios, or wooden structures, washing them down will make them mark free and be as appealing as possible. #BookTalk: Seducing the Stable Boy in “The Darkness of Love” by Catherine Green

Happy Hump Day! Have you read my Victorian vampire novel, The Darkness of Love? It is a spin-off from the Redcliffe novels series, telling the story of stable boy Marcus Scott and his initiation into the vampire world. He is a very persuasive and charming character, and he isn’t finished with me yet!

Marcus stirred slowly. He blinked and opened his eyes, wondering what had happened and where he was. His mind was strangely empty. He did not feel drunk, and he did not feel ill. But he wasn’t sure what these strange sensations were. He was lying on a sofa. He sat bolt upright when he realised it was in Lord Stockton’s study.  He sensed another presence in the room, and his eyes alighted on the still figure of Amelia Richmond, watching him from her seat on the adjacent sofa. She was smiling, and Marcus’ heart skipped a beat and started pounding.

“My Lady,” he gasped, leaping off the sofa, “Why am I here? What happened?”

Amelia continued to stare at him. There was something unnatural about the way she sat, something inhuman. Slowly, Marcus remembered what had happened.

“I drank his blood,” he whispered, touching his lips, “He is a monster.”
