Let’s Talk About Books: The Redcliffe Novels by Catherine Green

  1. What is the working title of your book?

Love Redeems (A Redcliffe Novel) – Book 3

  1. Where did the idea for the book come from?

It came naturally after I wrote the first book, Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel) and the sequel Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel).

  1. What genre does your work fall under?

It is paranormal romance, with a little dark fantasy and some horror elements.

  1. Which actors would you choose to play your characters?

Hmm, so far, I am struggling to decide on the right ones. For my heroine Jessica Stone I need a British woman with a convincing Manchester accent, long auburn hair, and green eyes. For the Mason brothers I need identical twins from Dublin with black hair and blue eyes… Any up and coming actors interested in the roles please?

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Emotion runs high in this fast-paced paranormal adventure, where secrets unfold, and friends are not as they seem…

  1. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

It will be published in partnership with Mirador, who produced my first two novels in the series.

     7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

About four or five months, I think. Once I had written the first two, this one just couldn’t wait.

     8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

It probably has elements of the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, but I aspire to write like Laurell K Hamilton and her Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, but with less horrific violence and a British perspective.

      9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I can’t really remember. My first novel, Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel), was cultivated in my mind for around ten years before I actually wrote it down. It first came about when I read the Nightworld series of novels by L. J. Smith and decided I wanted my own version of a vampire story with characters I could more easily relate to. Love Redeems (A Redcliffe Novel) is a natural progression from that, using experiences gained from my life during recent years.

     10. What else about your book might pique the readers’ interest?

It is set in Cornwall and describes the rugged coastline and old smugglers’ caves. There is a best friend with a new baby, two women running a business, and some interesting moral issues explored.

#ProductReview: Chalkola Chalk Markers + Giveaway #chalkolamom

My daughters and I were very excited to receive a box of Chalkola Chalk Pens + Metallic Markers for review last weekend. They arrived at the right time, just as we were self-isolating due to my younger daughter having a cold.

The girls couldn’t wait to try out their new Chalkola markers on the whiteboard, and I even allowed them to decorate a couple of wine glasses – what do you think of their designs?

The markers are nice to handle, and the colour is beautiful. It glides on like paint but dries to a chalky texture, and because they are water based, the ink washes off clothes and children, phew! You can use them on whiteboards, chalk boards, glass surfaces, plastic and any non-porous surfaces. They will make perfect stocking fillers for children and adults alike, and I can’t wait to use them with my stamps when I make Christmas cards and birthday cards. Chalkola Markers would be a great gift for the craft enthusiast in your life. Use my special discount code when you order: SPOOKY10.

This week I have a special giveaway for you. Head over to my Instagram page and join in for your chance to win a pack of Chalkola Chalk Pens. Good luck!

Healing Your Inner Child

How to take care of your inner child, even when you don’t know what they need.

Earlier this month I signed up for an online Reiki Summit, where I listened to recordings with guest speakers about a variety of topics centred on the use of reiki healing energy for self-care and good health. Some of the speakers offered short meditations during their talks, and I tried a few of them.

Healing Your Inner Child

Healing Your Inner Child

One meditation I did was led by Ashwita Goel, who works with people to release childhood trauma and heal the inner child. It was a short meditation, but it made quite an impact on me. Ashwita guided me (us) to think about a situation that stayed with me from childhood; a small incident that had a lasting impact on my life. I couldn’t think of one straight away, so I sat with the question: what traumatic event from childhood do I need to heal? Then Ashwita asked us what age we were at that event. I was 4 years old and I was at preschool. I may have wet myself but I’m not sure. It might have been the day that I fell into the water tray and got sent home in spare clothes that were too big for me. My mum never tires of telling that story!

In this memory, I felt humiliated and I hated the way everyone patronised me. Being of short stature, I was always small for my age, and as a child I hated it when adults talked down to me, and especially when my peers tried to do the same. On this day, at that time, I know the adults were just trying to be kind, but I didn’t like it. Ashwita guided us to heal that child; to allow her acknowledgment for what happened. I sent distance reiki healing to her and affirmed that I will no longer allow embarrassment to control my feelings. I can accept help when it is offered, and I need not worry about how I am judged for it.

Compelled to chant Reiki symbols

When the meditation ended, I felt compelled to chant SHK, a Japanese Reiki healing kotodama. It connects to the heart and higher self, creating a harmonious balance within and without. I felt calm and content, and suddenly very cold! I had to put the fire on. Such is the nature of energy work, and especially working with Reiki. I have a collection of capes and warm slippers specifically for these situations. Have you worked with your inner child recently? What did they say?

Enhancing Your Career Prospects During The Pandemic

The Covid-19 crisis has contributed to job losses and many people experiencing uncertainty about their future career prospects. If you’ve lost work as a result of the pandemic, or taking time out has inspired you to consider a change of careers, here are some tips to take on board.Ā

Launching an effective job search

Searching for a job isn’t always easy, and it can be time-consuming and frustrating. Tailoring your CV, filling in applications, answering questions and writing personal statements takes time, and often, you fire off your submission only to hear nothing. If you are looking for a job at the moment, try and be patient, look for roles that complement your skills, experience and qualifications and take full advantage of the Internet. The web gives you access to hundreds of new roles every day, and you can also upload your CV to try and attract employers. If you have a specific job or industry in mind, sign up with specialist recruiters and register with targeted websites like Practice Match. If you’re open to ideas, or you’re just looking for something temporary to bring money in, you can join job sites with a wide range of positions and temporary jobs. It’s a good idea to consider seasonal roles and to look for employers who are taking on new employees in line with increased demand. Examples include delivery companies and supermarkets.

Identifying new opportunities

There is no doubt that the pandemic has caused widespread havoc and disruption for job-seekers, employees and business owners. While there have been obvious negatives, every cloud has a silver lining. The crisis has created gaps in the market, and many companies and intuitive entrepreneurs have benefited from a surge in demand for certain products and services. If you’re currently searching for a job, or you’re thinking about setting up your own business, look for roles or opportunities that have emerged as a result of new trends and evolving consumer habits. Most people are now working from home, for example. This has triggered a demand for home-based entertainment, flexible furniture, technology that enables you to communicate with colleagues and friends via video calls, home workout equipment and virtual classes.

Retraining and learning

Sometimes, taking a break can be a positive step, even though it can seem like a setback. If you’ve lost your job, or you have more free time than usual because of a reduction in your workload, it’s worth thinking about learning or even retraining. This is particularly beneficial if you’re thinking about a change of career paths, or you’re open to exploring the idea of going freelance or launching your own business. You can train online, choosing from hundreds of courses, workshops and programmes.Ā

The pandemic has left many worrying about their careers and what the future holds. While uncertainty continues to permeate the air, there are opportunities to enhance your career prospects. Search for jobs online, look for gaps in the market and new trends and consider undertaking training. Change can often be positive, even though it may not be welcome at the time.

5 Ways to Tell You Might Be Psychic

People can have different sorts of psychic abilities but they mostly involve an extrasensory perception. You might feel a strong connection to your past ancestors or rely on your gut instinct to predict the future.

Psychic people are also more sensitive and experience more empathy. This helps you to be more aware and connect with others. Whether your intuition is strong or you simply feel more than others, here are five ways to tell you might be psychic.

5 Ways to Tell You Might Be Psychic

Your gut instinct is strong and accurate

If you are the sort of person that often relies on gut instinct then this could be a sign you have psychic abilities. If your instinct is almost overwhelming and what’s more, it turns out to be accurate then this could mean you might be psychic. There are different kinds of psychics, however, so if your gut instinct is powerful, find out more about what type of psychic am I.

You sense the thoughts and feelings of others

One of the main qualities of being a psychic is a strong sense of awareness. This includes being sensitive and aware of the emotions and feelings of others. If you feel you’re a very empathetic person this could be a sign of psychic abilities. There are also many other benefits of empathy. It allows you to connect with other people on a deeper level and truly understand them in order to help them.

You have a strong connection to the past

Perhaps you have a strong connection to your past. This could be visions of your ancestors or even frequent deja vu. There are meditation exercises you can try to hone in on this and connect with past ancestors. It might help you to form a better understanding of your present and future.

You have predicted the future

The ability most people associate with psychics is predicting the future. If you feel like you have predicted an event for whatever reason, whether it came to you in a dream or you simply had an overwhelming gut instinct, this could be a sign you might be psychic. It’s very interesting to learn how your brain makes predictions and how certain people’s intuition is much stronger than others. It’s worth trying to explore this idea further if you believe you have predicted the future.

You experience vivid dreams

Another common association with psychic abilities is dreams and visions. You might be experiencing particularly vivid dreams or even visions which lead you to predict future events or to a knowledge of the past, you wouldn’t normally have. It’s often said vivid dreams and visions are a sign of psychic ability so if this is a frequent occurrence for you might have this.

There are different types of psychics and psychic abilities. Many people associate being psychic with predicting the future but it can be more complicated than that. If you believe you have a stronger sense of intuition or awareness than most, then you could be showing signs of psychic abilities.

How To Encourage Others To Talk About Their Mental Health

Your mental health is arguably more important than your physical health. If you’re not in a good mental place, your physical health will start suffering as well. During the global pandemic, more and more people are suffering from anxiety and other mental health problems. To compound the problem, hardly anyone speaks up about how they feel. We’re bottling our emotions and not letting them out into the world.

You can’t force people to speak about their mental health and the sensitive issues they face. It’s up to them to come out and speak about it if they wish. However, you can definitely do your bit to encourage more people to talk about this topic. Many people don’t speak up because they’re ashamed or embarrassed.

Below, you’ll see some ideas to help you encourage more people to talk about their mental health problems.

Share information on your social media

You don’t need a huge following to have an influence on social media. Share information through Facebook posts, Twitter retweets, and Instagram stories. All your friends and acquaintances that follow you will see this and read it. It’s such a simple way of getting more information out there so people understand they’re not alone. When a person is aware that they aren’t the only one suffering from an issue, they’re more likely to speak out. Or, at the very least, they could contact you for some private help. You’re not a psychologist or a mental health expert, but you do have two ears and you’re ready to listen.

Raise awareness by doing something for charity

Raise more awareness by doing something for a mental health charity. This way, you can encourage people to make donations and share even more information. For example, you might decide to run a marathon or go skydiving. Post about this online and write a little backstory as to why you’re doing it. Raise money for a mental health charity to further help those in need. Another good idea is to arrange things like colour fun runs to get more people involved. Stuff like this might not be a good idea during COVID, but there are plenty of other fundraising ideas out there. The whole focus is to draw attention to the mental health charity and speak openly about different mental health issues and why they’re normal.

Share resources and tips

If you’ve been through something yourself, you could be a great source of comfort to another who’s struggling. If you have tips for how to cope with a mental health issue or some resources to share, your information could prove very useful to someone else, especially if they trust what you’re saying. You can make sure you’re providing the right type of info by researching organizations like The Awareness Centre so that you can share information that’s well-researched and accurate. Open yourself up to questions and share your own experiences, it could have a big impact on someone else.

Create an Instagram page

Another social media-based idea is to create your own Instagram page that talks about mental health. More specifically, you can use it as a platform for others to speak about their problems. Set it up so people can message you or send an anonymous email talking about their problems. With their agreement, you post it on your page anonymously – or with their name if they wish. It can be an excellent outlet for people to talk about their mental health problems without feeling like they’re being judged. The anonymity of it encourages more people to speak out.

Look, we’ve all taken a mental battering in the last few months. Some people can deal with mental health issues a lot better than others. If we all worked together to end the stigma around mental health, more people would be able to get through their dark times.
