5 Ways To Keep The Home Happy And Positive

As a homeowner, your job is to ensure that the place is kept in the best possible condition. Anyone who has ever owned a home before will know that this kind of role is pretty much endless. You won’t be able to kick back for a week as there will always be another job around the corner. If it’s not a domestic job relating to fixing or improving the home, you’ll have something to do regarding the kids!

One of the good things about looking after your home and keeping everything in good spirits is that it’s just a case of falling into the right habits. If you get stuck in some pretty negative ways, then looking after the home can be quite challenging. If you want to simply keep the home happy and positive, then you’ll have to make sure that you do a few things right. Here are five ideas for you:

Set The Right Example

This kind of collective attitude around the house will start with you. If you have a family to look after, then this is especially important to think about. When it comes to supporting your children and making sure they live a happy life, you’re going to need to set the right tone and be optimistic every single day. If you have a negative disposition, then they’re going to mimic that, and the entire ambiance of the home will be negative.

Keep Everything Neat, Tidy, And Organized

If the home is looking and feeling good, then the chances are that those inside the home are going to feel good, too. If everything is organized, then you won’t have to stress over things like messy items and other clutter. Make it a regular thing to clear up and keep everything hygienic. Think also about adding a few touches to boost the aesthetics. Perhaps you could add some pictures with a wooden frame on the walls of special moments and family members. Perhaps an ornament or two could make things even prettier.

Make Sure The First Impressions Are Great

If your home has positive first impressions, then it’s only going to be a good thing. First impressions are gigantic when it comes to the way we feel about pretty much anything. They set the tone for what lies ahead. So, make sure the home is looking pretty in terms of the exterior – if it’s a mess, then it’s going to make you feel a little down. The same applies to the porch and foyer areas.

Think About The Colors And The Overall Atmosphere

Color psychology has a big part to play in terms of the way we feel about our homes. We often like to live in homes with warm colors, but it’s, of course, entirely up to you and your preferences. The atmosphere matters in terms of the smells and overall feel of the home. Do what you can to ensure the place is smelling fresh and providing the right temperature all year round!

Ensure There’s A Room In The Home For Everyone

Everyone deserves to enjoy the spoils of your home. Make sure there’s a place in the home for every resident. So, if that means creating a study, a game room, a gym, or anything related to someone in your home, then why not go ahead and make it happen?

#BookTalk: Romancing the witch, werewolf style!

Happy Hump Day! Today I share an excerpt from my second Redcliffe novel, Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel), where the love triangle begins to form between the witch, her werewolf, and her vampire boyfriend.

All are wearing black clothes and look mysterious. 3D book cover image for "Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel)" from the vampire and werewolf fantasy book series by LGBT fantasy book writer Catherine Green including phone and iPad download images for tablet, iPhone, and android book readers.

Excerpt from “Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel)” by Catherine Green

“This is all for you, Jessica,” Danny said, “I can no longer deny my feelings for you.”

My heart skipped a beat and the room spun around me. It was nothing to do with the whiskey. I swallowed nervously, again glancing from Jack to Danny. My boyfriend was silent at my side, and I was aware of Simon standing just in front of the desk.

“W-what do you mean?” I asked shakily.

Danny placed his hands on my knees, and I sat rigid, unable to move. Suri stirred again within me. I was aware of her lifting her head, surveying the scene with interest.  I could hear her thinking how useful this situation could be to her. She pleaded again for me to allow her release.

“Not now, Suri,” I whispered, and Danny looked at me sharply.

“Your tiger is here,” he said with a faint smile, “I can feel her. She wants me. Do you want me, Jessica?”

I licked my lips nervously. Yes, I wanted Danny, and it terrified me. How could I do this to Jack? Surely, I could not be in love with two men. It wasn’t possible. Well, maybe it wasn’t love. But I certainly felt something for Danny, and I could no longer deny it. He knew. He stared at me with growing comprehension, and his expression grew triumphant.

Chronic Voice Link-up: Blood Donation for Rare Eye Disease Treatment

Welcome to June and our monthly A Chronic Voice blog link-up. Today is my blood donation day to have special eye drops made for my personal use. Read on to find out more!

NHS Blood and Donor make a blood donation with SpookyMrsGreen.com mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
Make a Blood Donation for NHS Blood and Donor

ACCUMULATING

Today I am accumulating blood! Well, the NHS is. I am visiting a blood donation centre in Liverpool, which is apparently the closest place for me and will take at least an hour to drive there, maybe more depending on traffic. They will take 1 pint of blood, send it to a facility, and have the serum extracted to make eye drops that will hopefully ease the chronic pain I live with because of rare eye disease and severe Dry Eye Syndrome.

HARMONISING

I feel that my life is finally harmonising. Following several years of struggle, I decided to separate from my husband and while it is an ongoing struggle, I feel like it was the right decision. I have worked hard to build my part-time reiki business, Goldstone Reiki, and continue to work as a freelance blogger and author. I managed to spend quality time with my children during the half-term holiday, and even took them to the seaside for a few days. It is all falling into place.

PRIORITISING

Right now, I am prioritising me. For years I put my husband’s needs before my own, all the while struggling along with my rare eye disease and the associated strain on my mental health. Nobody thought to offer help because I appeared to cope so well with everything. There are only a few people in my life that understand how difficult it is to live with a rare congenital disorder and the associated chronic pain. My children understand that I need to look after myself, and they are still young. This is my life, and I need to take charge of it.

CARVING

This year I am carving out time to have fun. We spent most of 2020 in lockdown and the first quarter of 2021 also. Then we were allowed to return to school and work but nothing else. Now we can travel around the UK freely, we can stay in hotels and holiday homes, we can visit museums, indoor entertainment centres and spend time with other people. We need more holidays!

TRAINING

I spent the past 4 years training to be a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, so now I am taking a break. I continue to attend group sessions with my teacher and fellow students to deepen our reiki connection and practice the self-care that is important for our health and wellbeing. Later this year I plan to attend training for Karuna Reiki and that should be fun, but right now I need to work on myself and my business.

Chronic Voice Link-Up

I joined the social network for A Chronic Voice because I needed to find people who understand what life is like with chronic illness, people like me. Today I have written a post using the June link-up prompts, to show my experience of living with a chronic pain disorder. Click here to find other blog posts from fellow chronic pain sufferers, or #spoonies as we call ourselves online.

Important Things To Think About For When You Are Giving Birth

Sometimes in life, things don’t always go as planned. Especially when it comes to giving birth and going through the difficulty of labour. You can have the perfect birth planned but the baby will always make their own plan. You can never be fully prepared for what will happen.

There are things you can put in place to prepare for different outcomes. There are also things you can do to help yourself like hypnobirthing.

Important Things To Think About For When You Are Giving Birth

The birth of a child is a life-changing and magical thing. All expectant parents are waiting while full of excitement and normally are preparing for everything weeks in advance. Getting ready for the arrival of their newest addition to the family. You can never fully plan how the birth of a baby will go. Even one woman can have completely different births with different pregnancies. Some will be easy and quick with no issues, and some will have problems occur and things that arise which take them off their birth plans they have put together. Even resulting in emergency C sections if things are bad.

There are home comforts you will want to think about having with you to help it be as comfortable as possible, like having your own pillow with you. You can also make a music playlist of calming music to have in the background and anything else that gives you comfort.

Issues that can arise from wrongful birth

There are all different types of issues that can arise like wrongful birth and in very severe cases wrongful death. In situations like these you will want to seek advice and help from a birth injury attorney. They will be able to help you out as well as be patient and understanding in what will be a very distressing time.

When you are giving birth another thing that you will need to think about and plan for is how it affects you after. What the recovery will be like and how can you make it easier for yourself. Doing something like batch cooking meals and putting them in the freezer will be very beneficial as it will be nice quick meals while you are adjusting to the new way of life. It is a good idea to plan your diet after giving birth.

You know your own body

Remember you know your own body, despite all the changes you will have a good gage on when something doesn’t feel right. So if it doesn’t, then trust yourself and seek some medical advice. Never be afraid to speak up or challenge your doctors and midwives if you feel you need to. Some women really suffer in pregnancy which can cause a lot of concerns and anxiety for when you are giving birth. Especially if you feel like your midwife isn’t listening to you. So make sure you are able to speak up and also talk to your partner about your wishes. Things you want and things you don’t want to happen during giving birth. You can be completely out of it with the pain so sometimes your partner will need to take the lead on it. So it is really important that they have a clear idea on what your wishes are.

Going on Holiday? Here are Some of the Best Beaches in the World

It doesn’t matter whether you want some solitude and shallow waters or hard-hitting surf because finding the perfect beach is essential if you want to have the best time ever. Want to find out more? Simply look below.

Source: Pexels (CC0 License)

Source d’Argent, Seychelles

The pink-hued sands really do make this beach picture-perfect. There are granite boulders and there are also various restaurants dotted around too. If you want to get the best accommodation for visiting the beach, then make sure that you don’t overlook the idea of booking an AirBNB. There are plenty of them in the area, and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to have the best time when you pay this location a visit.

Dune du Pyla, France

This beach is actually the tallest dune in Europe. It stretches over 100 metres and it’s only an hour away from Bordeaux. It’s dazzling too. In fact, you may feel the need to shield your eyes from the shimmering haze that glazes over the sand. As if that wasn’t enough, you will also be able to take in the panoramic views. There are ferries that travel from one end to the other and this helps to make your trip there even more special.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

When you travel to South Carolina, you will soon see that there are stunning beaches. One of the most famous is Myrtle Beach. It’s very tourist-focused so there are also plenty of entertainment options. If you want to visit this location, make sure that you look up “Myrtle Beach things to do” as this will help you to find out what attractions are in the area so you can make any bookings in advance.

Cala Saona, Formentera

There is no shortage of beaches at all when you visit this area. Even though this isn’t on the top list of beaches for most people, it’s certainly a gem and deserves to be explored. The white sand and the red cliffs are stunning, not to mention that nothing quite compares to watching the sunset. You can catch the ferry for a very affordable price, and you can also stay in one of the many luxurious hotels if you want to make your experience even more special.

Glass Beach, California

You would have thought that a beach made out of years’ worth of dumped rubbish would be a bad thing, but for this one, it isn’t. The result is nothing short of beautiful. From 1906 to 1967, appliances, glass and even cars were thrown into the sea. A clean-up program began which removed any of the metal and waste that would not degrade. The waves then broke down the glass and this washed up as translucent stones. Visitors are now forbidden from removing the sea glass and it has created a stunning result. This is one beach that you need to make sure that you visit if you are in the area, so make sure that you book a hotel nearby if you are in the area.

How to Support Your Child through Challenging Times

Being a parent is probably one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs you can ever undertake. Not only are you constantly trying to give your child the best life has to offer, but you also continuously try and instill the values and ideals into them in order for them to one day be able to navigate through life on their own.

Many parents have attested to the unknown that comes with raising a child and how you never know whether what you’re doing is even the correct way of doing it. The first thing you should do is pat yourself on the back; odds are you’re doing great! Nobody knows your child better than you do, and you may not even be noticing it, but you are giving your child exactly what they need – it’s your instincts helping you out!

But, once in a while, your child may be going through a challenging time in their life, whether it be academically, socially, or emotionally, and you may be wondering what exactly it is they need from you. That said, here are some tips on how to support your child when going through a challenging time.

How to Support Your Child through Challenging Times

Relate

Whatever your child is going through, they need someone to tell them that they’re not alone and that other people have been through it and came out the other end successfully. You may feel the urge to immediately jump into control mode and start handing out advice that you one hundred percent know will sort out the problem, but it may not be what they need at that stage in time. Instead, start with levelling with them by sharing something similar you went through and slip your advice in by saying how you handled it. This will give them some guidance yet allow them to make a decision themselves, which is excellent because every child will need to have adequate decision-making skills for every stage in their life going forward.

Offer help

Say your child is experiencing a challenging time at school, or you even feel as if the school isn’t a good fit for your child’s needs, offering them a few avenues to consider may make them feel as if there is light at the end of the tunnel instead of sitting in the dark with nowhere to go. You may offer them options like getting a tutor, switching to an Independent private school, or seeing a counsellor, for example – this will not only open doors for them but also include the both of you in the process and make them feel less alone. When facing a hard time, a child may start to feel alone in their struggle, and offering them help will take that loneliness away and replace it with a feeling of support and unity.

Be the cheerleader

All challenges require encouragement, and your child needs a personal cheerleader to whisper those positive reinforcements into their ears; that’s you! Failure is very personal to a child who is still developing and finding themselves in this world, which is why constant motivation from your side can be that little push they need not to give up and see whatever they’re going through to the end and achieve success. Phrases like “I struggled with this too” and “keep trying, you’re so close!” will not only encourage them significantly and boost their confidence but also make them feel as if they’re not the only person in the world who has had the same problem.

Your child is your most prized possession, and it’s never easy to see them going through a tough time – cheer them on every step of their way; it’ll mean more to them than you’ll ever know!

Unveiling Mysteries in Love Hurts: A Glimpse into the Redcliffe Novels

Embark on a journey through The Redcliffe Novels series, where Jessica Stone, the proprietor of a quaint bookshop, stumbles upon love, only to uncover the concealed werewolf mysteries entwined with her closest companions. One such friend is Simon Bunce, the Ship Inn’s manager, who reveals himself as the lieutenant to the Redcliffe werewolf pack and the romantic partner of the wolf alpha, Danny Mason. Simon battles fiercely to shield his master from a spectral animal familiar threatening to seize control of their pack. Who could have anticipated that the picturesque Cornish coast would harbour such perilous secrets?

Excerpt from Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel):

“Perhaps you would be wise to take a breather in your relationship.” Simon said, “I knew that Jack was licensed for firearms; it’s part of his job, and Danny’s. But I would’ve expected him to tell you if he was carrying to prevent something like this happening.”

He continued, “To be honest I’m almost as angry as you. Please Jessica, believe me when I say that the Mason brothers are trouble. They don’t mean to be, but they will cause you more grief if you continue this relationship with Jack. It will be worse now that Danny is back in town. And I’m not just saying that to get you away from them.  As your friend I am concerned for you, I don’t like seeing you upset.”
