#Witchy Wednesday: Welcome to October – The Season of the Witch! 🎃✨

Welcome, October! The season of the witch is upon us, and we’re stepping into one of the most magical times of the year.

As the leaves turn golden and the nights grow longer, the veil between the worlds thins, bringing us closer to the energies of the unseen. The crisp air carries whispers of ancient spirits, and the world feels just a little more enchanted. Can you feel it? 🍂🔮

Spooky image of pagan lifestyle blogger SpookyMrsGreen dressed for Samhain Halloween. Text reads, “Welcome to October The Season of the Witch #WitchyWednesday www.spookymrsgreen.com.”
Welcome to October – The Season of the Witch!

The Season of the Witch

For us witches, pagans, and lovers of all things spooky, this is the perfect time to connect with the earth, the elements, and our own inner power. The autumn season is rich with opportunities for transformation, introspection, and spiritual growth. With Samhain just around the corner, it’s time to harness the energy of the season and prepare for the final harvest.

Work with the Autumn Energies

Here are some fun and easy ways to work with the autumn energies as we approach Samhain, the Witches’ New Year:

1. Create an Autumn Altar

Now is the time to refresh your altar with the vibrant colours of the season. Think orange, gold, deep red, and earthy brown. Decorate it with fallen leaves, acorns, conkers, pumpkins, and candles. You might also want to add symbols of protection and transformation, such as black tourmaline or onyx, to guard your space as we approach the darker half of the year.

2. Embrace Shadow Work

Autumn is the perfect time for introspection. With the nights drawing in, it’s natural to turn inward and explore your inner world. Shadow work involves acknowledging and integrating the hidden or repressed parts of ourselves, helping us grow and heal. Try journaling under the energy of the waning moon to release old patterns or meditate with smoky quartz to ground yourself during this introspective journey.

3. Celebrate the Final Harvest

Samhain marks the third and final harvest, a time to give thanks for the abundance we have received and prepare for the quiet of winter. Take a moment to reflect on what you’ve “harvested” this year. What have you achieved? What lessons have you learned? Give thanks, and if there’s anything you need to release, now is the perfect time to let it go.

4. Connect with Ancestors

As the veil between worlds grows thin, it’s easier to connect with the spirits of our ancestors. Set up a special altar or corner in your home dedicated to your loved ones who have passed. Light a candle in their honour, leave out some food or drink offerings, or meditate on any messages they might have for you. Samhain is a sacred time to honour those who have gone before us.

5. Get Crafty with Seasonal Magic

Why not make a protection spell jar filled with autumnal herbs like rosemary, sage, and cinnamon? You can also create your own witchy charm by carving sigils into pumpkins or apples, then placing them around your home for protection and good fortune. For a little extra magic, bake something seasonal like pumpkin bread and infuse it with your intentions – every stir of the spoon is a chance to manifest your desires.

6. Nature Walks and Forest Magic

There’s something so grounding about walking through a forest or park during autumn. The leaves crunch beneath your feet, the air smells of earth and wood smoke, and the whole world feels alive with magic. Take time to appreciate the changing season by collecting fallen leaves and twigs, which you can use for future spells, rituals, or even a simple autumn wreath for your front door. As you walk, tune into the whispers of the trees – they may have a message for you.

7. Divination Practices

October is the perfect time to practice divination! Whether you’re a tarot reader, a runes caster, or prefer scrying with a crystal ball, the energies of this season make it easier to access insights from beyond. Set aside some time for a personal reading to see what guidance awaits you for the coming winter months.

8. Plan for Samhain

Samhain is just a few weeks away, so now is the time to plan your celebration. Whether you’re hosting a ritual with friends, doing a solo ceremony, or simply taking time for quiet reflection, think about how you want to honour the end of this year and welcome the new one. It’s a time to embrace both endings and beginnings – a powerful moment in the witch’s calendar.

A Month of Magic, Mystery, and Transformation

October is truly a month of magic, mystery, and transformation. As we celebrate the season of the witch, remember to enjoy every moment of the journey. Whether you’re working with spells, connecting with nature, or simply enjoying a warm cup of spiced cider, know that the energy of the season is here to support you.

Happy Witchy Wednesday and Blessed Samhain season! 🍁🖤✨

#MummyMonday: Reflecting on PARA-CON 2024

Hello, lovely readers, and welcome to the final #MummyMonday in September. We are now officially entering the season of the witch, and I am buzzing with energy and ready to go.

I just got back from attending PARA-CON 2024 as Paranormal Author Catherine Green, so let me tell you about the event, the wonderful paraunity community that I met, and the spooky merch that I brought home.

Spooky image of the PARA-CON 2024 logo with photos of paranormal author Catherine Green with her books at the event and the official PARA-CON limited edition T-Shirt merch. #MummyMonday: Reflecting on PARA-CON 2024.

Reflecting on PARA-CON 2024

Phew, what a busy day that was! I am so glad it was local to me, although I am excited to travel around the UK with upcoming author events. This one was in Northwich, just a fifteen-minute drive from home and a town where I do most of my weekend shopping with the family. The venue was cosy and traditional, and I’m told that PARA-CON 2025 will be bigger and better so that’s exciting. I have already confirmed attendance for the next event so keep checking my blog for updates.

Anyway, back to the weekend. PARA-CON was organised by BiB Paranormal who offer a comprehensive paraunity community platform for ghost hunters, historians, paranormal investigators and anyone interested in the paranormal world to meet and share stories. They brought together a fantastic line-up of speakers for the main stage including Richard Felix (I totally did not go all fangirl when I saw him in the same room as me!), The Occult Family, Paranormal Penny Pinchers, Jack O’Lantern (where it was my daughter’s turn to be the fangirl), and many more.

Meeting The Occult Family

My girls and I had a lovely chat with The Occult Family and were invited to look inside their haunted museum at the venue. It was a tent set up inside the main hall where they displayed a selection of haunted artifacts from their personal collection. I was fascinated with a prom dress on a mannequin and my daughters loved the haunted dolls. The energy inside that tent was intense and I couldn’t look at one of the dolls, reportedly the most haunted doll in the UK, because she gave me a very strange energetic sensation in the pit of my stomach, and I knew that she didn’t like me. I can’t explain it, but I could feel it. So, I left the tent and retreated to the safety of my book table.

Meeting the Paraunity Community

I was very happy to meet my fellow paraunity community members and share stories. We had a lovely mix of ghost hunters, UFO chasers, movie merch traders, historians, mediums and many more diverse people to speak with. And we met the ghostbusters who were raising money for charity. We had to hide Gary the Ghost on my table so he wasn’t hit by the proton packs!

I discovered groups where I can take my children ghost hunting, so we shall be busy next year once I book us onto some events. I was interviewed on video and live stream throughout the day so I’m excited to see what comes of those. You can already see me and my fellow PARA-CON attendees on the usual social media channels.

I’m a Happy Spooky Lady

This event was a great way to start the Halloween season and get me out of my daytime routine of work and parenting. It will be great to see reviews of my books from the fans that I met at the event, I am happily playing with the ghost equipment that we bought from PolterGear, and I got my PARA-CON T-shirt that I will wear with pride in Benidorm at the end of October.

My next event is Romance in the North on 12th October. See you there!

Ghost Hunting on a Budget: A Guide for Amateur Investigators and Families

As I prepare for Paracon 2024, the UK’s first paranormal convention, I find myself reflecting on my own ghost hunting adventures. Here in the UK, we are fortunate to have a rich history of haunted locations—old hospitals, castles, and abandoned buildings that are steeped in mystery. However, participating in organised ghost hunting events can be pricey, especially when factoring in equipment, travel, and ticket costs.

For families, especially those with teenage children, the challenge grows even more, as most official ghost hunting events have age restrictions. So, what do you do when you’re itching to explore the paranormal with your family, but your children aren’t legally old enough to attend these events? Don’t worry—ghost hunting doesn’t always need to be a formal affair. Here are my tips for getting started as an amateur ghost hunter, either solo or with your teens, all while keeping costs in check!

Spooky image of ghost hunter Catherine Green also known as SpookyMrsGreen at an overnight ghost hunt event in a haunted hospital in Wales, UK. Text reads, “Ghost Hunting on a Budget: A Guide for Amateur Investigators and Families. Read my tips for getting started as an amateur ghost hunter at SpookyMrsGreen mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.”
Ghost Hunting on a Budget: A Guide for Amateur Investigators and Families at SpookyMrsGreen.com.

1. Start Locally—Investigate Nearby Haunts

You don’t have to travel far to find ghost stories. Most UK towns and villages have their own tales of hauntings, and local cemeteries, ruins, and old buildings are often rich with paranormal history. Check with your local historical society or library for information on nearby haunted sites.

Many areas have public footpaths that go through historic or spooky locations. These places can provide a great opportunity for a DIY ghost hunt, and they’re generally free to visit. Just remember to respect the area, particularly if you’re visiting cemeteries or private property, and always follow local regulations.

2. Use Basic Equipment—No Need for Fancy Gadgets

You don’t need to spend hundreds on ghost hunting gear to get started. Some of the most effective tools are ones you already have at home. A smartphone can serve multiple purposes—its camera can capture potential visual evidence, and there are plenty of free apps for measuring EMF (electromagnetic fields) and EVP (electronic voice phenomena).

Other simple tools you can bring along include:

A notebook and pen: Document everything, from strange sounds to temperature changes.

A torch: Always essential for night-time explorations.

A digital recorder: Many smartphones have a built-in voice recording app, ideal for capturing EVPs.

If your teens are with you, they can help by noting what they observe or snapping photos of anything unusual.

3. Practice Safety First

Ghost hunting can be thrilling, but safety must come first. Make sure to follow these guidelines:

Never trespass. Stick to public locations or get permission if you plan to visit private property.

Don’t go alone. Always go with a group or a trusted partner, and let someone know where you are going.

Bring the essentials: A first aid kit, extra batteries, and charged phones are crucial.

Stay calm: Ghost hunts can sometimes evoke powerful emotions or scare younger participants. Ensure everyone is on the same page and comfortable with the experience.

4. Visit Haunted Locations During the Day

If your teenage children are too young for night-time ghost hunts or if you want to avoid the fear factor, explore haunted locations during the day. While it may seem less eerie, paranormal activity doesn’t only happen in the dead of night! Many hauntings are reported during daylight hours, and a daylight visit allows for a more relaxed experience, especially for first-time ghost hunters.

5. Make It Fun—Get Creative!

Ghost hunting can be a great bonding experience for families. Turn it into a fun learning opportunity by researching the history of the places you visit beforehand. Challenge your teens to find evidence or write up their own ghost reports. You could even turn it into a photography project, capturing eerie and artistic shots of the places you investigate.

6. Join Online Communities

Since many formal ghost hunts may not allow teens to participate, consider joining online paranormal communities. Sites like Haunted Happenings or the UK Paranormal Society often host virtual events, and there are plenty of YouTube channels and podcasts that share tips, investigations, and ghost stories. These can offer a family-friendly way to stay engaged with the paranormal world until your children are old enough for in-person events.

7. Respect the Spirits

Lastly, remember that ghost hunting isn’t just about capturing evidence—it’s about respecting the locations and any spirits that may inhabit them. Approach each investigation with curiosity and care, and always be mindful of the energy you bring into the space.

Enjoy Your Ghost Hunting Adventures

You don’t need to spend a fortune or attend formal events to experience the thrills of ghost hunting. With a little creativity and preparation, you can explore the paranormal with your teenage children or on your own. Start small, stay safe, and enjoy the journey into the unknown!

Happy hunting!

#MummyMonday: Finding Positivity Amidst the Autumn Storms

Mabon and the Autumn Equinox have just passed, marking the official transition into the season of cosy sweaters, falling leaves, and pumpkin-spiced everything. But here in the UK, our weekend was far from idyllic—stormy skies brought dramatic thunder, flash flooding, and a damp chill that seems to have crept into more than just the air. My brother nearly lost his work van in a flooded carpark, and we’re all dealing with the aftermath of soggy shoes and a public mood that feels as grey as the sky.

Beyond the weather, the country is feeling the strain of budget cuts, and it’s hard not to feel discouraged by the constant talk of less money to work with, especially when many of us, like my husband and me, are already juggling financial worries. Essential home improvements in our 1950s house feel like a mountain we’re struggling to climb, and personal health challenges only add to the weight on our shoulders.

Finding Positivity Amidst the Autumn Storms

So, how do we stay positive as the days grow shorter and the news feels heavier? Here are a few ways to lift the mood and embrace the beauty that autumn offers, even when it feels like the world is conspiring to bring us down.

1. Embrace the Simple Pleasures

Sometimes, it’s the little things that bring the most comfort. On a rainy day, curling up with a good book, a hot cup of tea, or indulging in your favourite TV show can feel like a small victory. For me, it’s the moments spent with my husband Daniel and our cheeky cat Charlie, who keeps us entertained with his sock-stealing antics. Those simple pleasures remind us that joy can be found even in the darkest weather.

2. Get Out in Nature – Even if it’s Wet

Yes, the rain may be relentless, but there’s something magical about autumnal walks in the park, especially once the storms pass. The crisp air, the smell of wet earth, and the crunch of leaves underfoot offer a moment to reset. If you’ve got a raincoat and a good pair of boots, a brief walk can work wonders to shake off the gloom and reconnect with nature’s seasonal transition.

3. Shift Your Focus Indoors

As we wait for better weather, why not focus on sprucing up your home in small ways? We may be struggling to raise finance for big home improvements, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make our living spaces more inviting. Rearranging furniture, adding a few cosy throws or candles, or even switching up your décor with autumnal colours can help create a warm and welcoming space.

4. Be Mindful of Your Energy

If you’re feeling physically or mentally drained (which I certainly am, with ongoing health concerns), it’s important to be kind to yourself. Take time to rest, practise mindfulness, or meditate. Even a few minutes of deep breathing can help to centre you when life feels overwhelming. Remember, it’s OK to slow down and take things one day at a time as we adjust to the new season.

5. Stay Connected

When the public mood is sour, it’s easy to retreat into ourselves, but sometimes, a simple phone call or text to a loved one can brighten the day. Plan a coffee date with a friend or even organise a cosy autumn gathering at home, complete with hearty soups, warm drinks, and good company. Connection is key to lifting our spirits and reminding us that we’re not alone in facing life’s challenges.

6. Remember the Cycles

Mabon is all about balance, and it’s a time to reflect on the cycles of life. Just as the storms will pass, so too will the challenges we face. The earth is shifting, preparing for winter, but there’s a beauty in the stillness that follows the chaos. It’s a reminder to find our own balance—between work and rest, between struggle and peace—and to honour the transitions we’re going through personally.

Seek out the Little Sparks of Joy

As we move deeper into autumn, remember to seek out the little sparks of joy, even when the world feels heavy. Whether it’s the warmth of a blanket, the laughter of a friend, or the purr of a mischievous cat, there’s always light to be found.

Happy #MummyMonday, and here’s to finding beauty in the midst of the storm. Stay warm, stay safe, and let’s embrace the season together.

Embrace Holistic Health & Wellness with #MountainsfortheMind

Happy #WitchyWednesday, my lovely Spooky Souls! 🌿✨ Today, we’re talking about the power of holistic health and wellness – and how the natural world around us plays a vital role in keeping our bodies, minds, and spirits in harmony. 🍃

In modern witchcraft, we often turn to nature for healing, balance, and grounding. The earth beneath our feet, the wind in the trees, and the vast sky above us all contribute to our overall well-being. Nature provides us with an endless supply of energy and peace – it’s no wonder that so many of us are drawn to the outdoors when life becomes overwhelming.
