#ProductReview: Letters from Santa with Lapland Mailroom

The countdown to Christmas has officially begun! I have to admit, this year I am feeling rather excited for the festive holidays. I’m just a big kid at Christmas!

And I am looking forward to my daughters receiving their personalised letters from Santa Claus courtesy of Lapland Mailroom.

#ProductReview: Letters from Santa with Lapland Mailroom

My girls have been (mostly) good this year. They have coped extremely well with ongoing family drama, they work hard at school and are progressing well in their education. They care for each other and their friends, and they do everything that I would want them to do. They deserve a treat at Christmas, and this year they will be delighted to receive a personalised letter each from Father Christmas. My elder daughter will be able to read the letters by herself for the first time, which will add to my sentimental feeling.

Lapland Mailroom offer a great selection of personalised letters from Santa Claus or Father Christmas. You can choose different styles that each come with a personal touch for your child to appreciate. I chose two different ones for my girls, along with a complimentary activity pack to help them start their festivities early. If you order now, your letters will arrive right at the beginning of December, and you can quote this unique special offer code to receive 20% discount: xmaspromo17.

#ProductReview Prestige Hampers Luxury Christmas Hamper

We are officially on the countdown to Christmas, and that means one thing in our house – lots of tasty treats! My husband and I are partial to savoury snacks, especially crisps, and I am a bit of a chocoholic. We were very pleased to receive a complimentary luxury Christmas hamper to review, courtesy of Prestige Hampers.

Read my article to see what we thought of the Prestige Christmas Hamper and whether we recommend it to our friends or not.

My Review of Prestige Christmas Hamper

The hamper was delivered quickly and efficiently, and the food items were neatly packed inside the hamper. It is a beautiful, rustic picnic basket that brings back fond memories of family day trips. I will certainly make good use of it for storage once the food has all been eaten. Unpacking the hamper was a delight! I discovered a bar of rich, dark chocolate and a box of luxury praline chocolates almost immediately, so we were off to a good start.

After a little bit of rummaging, I discovered a bottle of Australian red wine, a Shiraz variety, that looks very tasty. Then I found a bottle of Australian white wine, Chardonnay. Delicious! There was a tub of luxury Yorkshire Crisps and some Scottish Smoked Oatcakes that I don’t think will last very long…

Then I found the proper Christmas food! We have a packet of Walkers festive shortbread biscuits presented in a delightful Christmas box. There is a Christmas cake and a classic Christmas pudding that will be the perfect addition to our festive family table. I found a box of Fairtrade luxury English Breakfast teabags, and then I discovered two little jars that made me squeal with delight! We have a jar of Christmas marmalade with cranberries, and a jar of Christmas preserve with mulled wine. My mouth is watering at the thought of all this tasty, festive food.

Have I tempted your tastebuds yet? Order your Prestige Christmas Hamper now and get ready for the festive season.

Samhain Approaches, and the Veil Grows Thin

It is close to that magical day, October 31st, known to most people as Halloween, and known to witches as Samhain. It is the day when we can openly communicate with our ancestors, when the ghosts step out of the shadows, and when the day fades into night with a grey and sullen sky…

But why this day? What is so special about Halloween, or Samhain? Read my article to learn more about Samhain and the folklore surrounding our celebration of Halloween.

Happy Halloween by SpookyMrsGreen.com pagan lifestyle blog
Happy Halloween

What is so special about Halloween, or Samhain?

There is lots of folklore surrounding the holiday. Here in the UK, we never used to celebrate Halloween quite so much when I was a child. We did a bit of apple bobbing and maybe had a party at home with friends, but that was about it. Fancy dress involved a white bedsheet, and we didn’t really decorate the house. But then we adopted many of the more fun aspects from our American neighbours, so that Halloween has evolved into something far more frivolous than I think it set out to be.

I will not share facts and features right now. You can find those in abundance all over the internet. Here is my understanding of Samhain: the trees have mostly shed their leaves, and all that remains are stark, naked branches that will slumber throughout the winter months to come. Smaller animals have burrowed away to hibernate through the cold season, birds have migrated to warmer places, and there is a definite chill in the air.

This thinning of the veil that we speak about is merely symbolic. I can see it in my mind’s eye. Our Great Mother, Gaia, has settled her babies off to sleep, and now we make way for creatures of darkness and shadow. They were there all along, they always are, but not all humans are prepared to see them. Some days I feel more connected to the spirit world. Other days it passes me by. But on Samhain, when the air is thin and cold, and the sky is grey, I feel them, and I see them. Do you?

Toy Review: Sylvanian Families Country Doctor Playset

My daughters have been asking for the Sylvanian Families Country Doctor playset all summer long. Imagine their surprise and delight when they came home from school to find a parcel waiting for them…

Toy Review: Sylvanian Families Country Doctor Playset

The Country Doctor playset is adorable, but then we already know that, because it is Sylvanian Families. I loved these toys when I was a child, and I am delighted that my daughters are joining in with my love for the nostalgia that comes from these sets. My eldest daughter likes the plants and flowers that are painted on the outside of the clinic. She says they make it look very pretty and nice.

As always, it’s the little touches that make a difference to a toy like this. My daughter likes the design of the miniature clipboard and pen that the Sylvanian Families doctor might use. She thinks that the measuring stick and the weighing scales are a nice feature. All of the little accessories are very thoughtfully created, right down to the magazines for the waiting area, the miniature syringes and tweezers, and the cute little doctor’s coat.

I like the quaint, village feel that you get with Sylvanian Families toys, and the Country Clinic playset really doesn’t disappoint. My daughters have watched a demo of this set numerous times on their favourite YouTube channel, EllieV Toys, and now that they have the real thing, they are very happy. Now they are preparing a list of which other Sylvanian Families playsets they want to collect!

Many divorced people spend a long time living alone in the aftermath of marital breakdown. It takes a while to recover from a broken heart, and sometimes it takes a person who has experienced similar trauma to make you feel able to open up.

We are Lego Master Builders! @LDCManchester

My daughters are well and truly obsessed with Lego. It began when I gave them a large crate of assorted bricks that I had saved from childhood. In that crate are the kits to build a Lego fire station, a medieval castle, and lots of vehicles and creative projects.

We began collecting Lego minifigures, we watched the TV show Lego Masters, and we visited our local Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester.

We are Lego Master Builders! @LDCManchester

I received an invitation to visit Legoland Discovery Centre and participate in the master builders challenge with my family. My daughters immediately decided to pit themselves against the grown-ups, and off we went. There is a special room within the Legoland Discovery Centre where you take part in the Master Builders challenge. A member of staff will sit you at a table, present you with a pile of Lego bricks, and time you for fifteen minutes. They will then judge the winner.

I’m sure you can imagine who won our Master Builders challenge? Yes, it was the children. My husband had been determined to win, but on the day we lost our nerve, panicked, and couldn’t build anything creative within the time frame. It is surprisingly high-pressured, but lots of fun to do. We have yet to do a rematch with our daughters to see if we can best them… Could you be a Master Builder? Visit your local Legoland Discovery Centre to find out.

The Season of the Witch #Samhain

There is a certain energy in the air this month, can you feel it? Something whispers to you from far away, and it is creeping closer… Something dark and mysterious, and yet oddly familiar…closer it comes, and closer still…

The veil is thinning, and soon we may speak freely with our ancestors and those that have passed into the Other World.

The Season of the Witch

For witches, this is an everyday occurrence. We feel a special kind of electrical energy when there is a ghost or a spirit nearby. Some are blessed with the gift of second sight, where they can freely see and converse with spirits. Others, like myself, are merely sensitive to energies. I live with ghosts. I am comfortable with them, most of the time.

Those pesky ghosts are even creeping into my novels, now. Have you read Eye of the Tiger (A Redcliffe Novel)? It is not for the faint hearted… and Heart of the Vampire (A Redcliffe Novel) grows darker still…

#ProductReview: We Love My Little Pony! @RavensburgerPC @MLPMovie

I am very pleased that my daughters enjoy watching My Little Pony on the TV, and that they play with the toys at home. I grew up with the original My Little Pony toys in the 80s, and I loved them!

Applejack was my favourite, and I still remember playing with the My Little Pony school playset as a child, and the beauty salon. Those were the days!

You can imagine my delight when we received a My Little Pony jigsaw to review for Ravensburger. Although the recommended aged is 6+, which suits my older daughter, my youngest, who is 4, jumped right in there and couldn’t get the pieces out of the box quick enough.

We literally had to drop everything and make the jigsaw as soon we got home from school. It has been broken up and remade a few times since then as well, and I must admit, I enjoy doing it with my girls. The My Little Pony movie is out now in cinemas, and I do believe we need to watch it. Who is your favourite pony character?
