I received a selection of board games to review for Cheatwell, and my family was excited when they arrived before Christmas. We played all three games several times during the festive holidays.

My Review: Christmas Express Game

This game is sort of like snakes and ladders. You travel along the train track, there are cards you collect instead of rolling dice, and each card either gives you a special trick to use, protects you from other players, or it can be something unexpected. The game took about an hour and a half to play with my children aged 11 and 9, and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
About the Product – Climb aboard the Christmas Express and join this jolly journey through a winter wonderland as you race to be the first to get to the North Pole. The aim of the game is to be the first player to travel along the train track from the Home Station to the North Pole Station. You’ll have to avoid the Hustle Bustle, the Reindeer Crossings, the Snowstorms and maybe the naughty elf, but keep an eye out for Santa’s sleigh as he could help you on your way. For ages 6+.
My Review: Tension Board Game
£14.90 – from Amazon and other high street stores.
This is a fun game, but it can get quite tense! We played it a few times and I even bought the Tension Music edition game for my husband because we both enjoyed the family version so much. You have to name items in a category that match what is written on the card, and you only have a sand timer in which to answer correctly. Then you can move around the board and try to beat your opponents to the end. I think my husband and I enjoyed this game slightly more than our children did, although there is a good mix of categories, including Animals beginning with S, Beatles songs, Items you find in the kitchen, Ed Sheeran songs etc. The game lasted for around an hour.

My Review: Family Quiz Night
£27 – from WH Smith
I think this game was a favourite for our daughters, especially the youngest since she had a better chance of knowing the answers to the questions. Each quiz card has a multiple choice children’s question and an adult’s question to correspond with the category, and the questions follow subjects and current affairs as recent as 2021. The adult questions were tricky, and on one occasion the game lasted for about 2 hours. Another time it lasted for around 40mins, so it really depends on whether you get easy questions or not. Our children managed to beat us on this game, which is why they enjoyed it so much!
