New Year’s Resolutions are so Old Fashioned, according to Gen Z

Forget Dry January or extreme January diets, because seven in ten younger Brits think the New Year’s Resolution is old fashioned and outdated.

According to the findings, modern Brits believe traditional pledges, such as January diets (41 percent), finding the ‘one’ (36 percent) and avoiding booze for January (34 percent) are pointless.

New Year’s Resolutions are so Old Fashioned, according to Gen Z

In fact, as many as 94 percent of the 2,000 “Gen Sensible” (under 29-year-olds), surveyed by Vital Proteins, believe it is better to have healthy habits all year round, instead of cutting back in January.

Four in ten (37 percent) say they make an effort to eat healthily all year round, while 36 percent regularly hit the gym.

One in three (29 percent) routinely abstain from alcohol, while more a quarter (26 percent) limit their junk food and sugar intake.

85 percent prefer to drink alcohol moderately all year round, with a further 19 percent working hard to live a sustainable life.

In fact, a resounding 71 percent of Brits under the age of 29, think the concept of a New Year’s resolution, is old fashioned.

Small Changes make Long-Term Improvement

A spokesperson for Vital Proteins, which commissioned the study commented,  “With modern Brits shunning the idea of making New Year’s resolutions, it’s not surprising people are starting to think  about the small things we can add into our days over a long period of time that will make a big difference in the long term.”

Four in ten (38 percent) Gen Z Brits share healthy routines with their followers on TikTok and Instagram.

Going out for a daily walk (38 percent), cooking meals from scratch (32 percent), scheduling in some ‘me’ time (27 percent) and running (26 percent) are the year long health and wellbeing activities that under 29s engage in.

Overall, 71 percent think the younger generation are more modest and sensible when it comes to alcohol and overindulging, compared to older generations.

A Spooky New Year’s Celebration

To kick off the year, my family and I headed to the enchanting Talacre Beach in North Wales for a New Year’s Day celebration like no other. Picture this – the sound of crashing waves, the crisp sea breeze, and the laughter of loved ones echoing through the sandy shores. But that’s not all; we brought along a new addition to our family outings – a dog stroller! Thanks to my thoughtful mum’s Christmas gift, we’re introducing our beloved furry friend, Marley, to his new set of wheels.

Marley, our loyal companion, recently faced a new challenge as he became disabled. It’s heartwarming to see him adapt to his dog stroller, and we’re eager to make every outing as enjoyable as possible for him. Talacre Beach provides the perfect backdrop for this special moment as we help Marley navigate the sandy terrain with his newfound mobility.

As we embark on this adventure, we want to extend our warmest wishes to you, our dear readers. May the coming year bring you joy, prosperity, and countless supernatural thrills! Thank you for being a part of the Spooky Mrs. Green community – your support means the world to us.

What’s in store for 2024?

Now, let me share a little sneak peek into what’s in store for SpookyMrsGreen.com in the coming months. Brace yourselves for a thrilling return to ghost hunting as we dive into the mysterious and unearthly. If you haven’t already, check out my author website for updates on my Redcliffe novels series, a collection of LGBT fantasy books that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Expect plenty of surprises, twists, and turns as we navigate the supernatural realm together. Whether you’re a fan of spooky encounters, LGBT fantasy, or just enjoy a good story, there’s something for everyone in the months ahead.

Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey into 2024. Here’s to a year filled with magic, adventure, and, of course, a healthy dose of spookiness!

Cheers to a Spooky New Year!

We All Need To Protect Our Children

Do you want to protect your child while they are online? Our social lives are changing and we now spend more time interacting with people in the metaverse, especially our children.

Read my collaborative blog post to see how you can better protect your children while they play online, and help them to navigate the metaverse confidently and safely.

Protect Your Children while they Play

You want to protect your children, right? We are to do more for our children, according to our logical starting point. At day’s end, it is we who are solely responsible for our children. We must make them as safe as possible.

We can all do more for the safety of our children. It should be our top priority. So let’s all agree and use these tips. The utilization of this guide will lead you to discover the best methods, resulting in achieving more to guarantee the physical and internet safety of your child.

Don’t let them see dangerous content on the internet

Safe tube – create a safe vid, is a website built for parents to give their children a safe and clean environment to watch videos. You can be sure that your children are not watching anything dangerous on this website. All of the videos are child-safe.

Explain the online rules

Establish regulations and organizing policies that are easily comprehensible and measurable for the utilization of technology. Discuss the rules and guidelines with your children. Explain to them the quality of apps and websites they can have and the number of hours they can be on the devices.

Explain to them that when they do not follow the rules and guidelines, there are repercussions for their behaviour. They are not allowed to be bad kids. This goes the same way with good kids; they aren’t allowed to be good kids either.

Let them be a little rambunctious here and there. Allow them to know the goodness of following rules and the effect of breaking them.

Strangers and dangers

It is wise to make children aware of stranger danger and the necessity of never having a conversation with anyone they do not know. Then, they can be safe and never worry you about speaking to strangers.

Rules of the road

It is of great importance and, above all, life-saving for your child to learn about the basic rules of the road, road crossing, and from what age this becomes an absolute necessity, and that the child does realize this does not mean he or she has a license to run across all the roads in the world. Practice these abilities with your child until you are sure your child completely knows how to do the task.

If they get lost…

It would be most wise if you were to instruct your offspring on the steps he or she should take if he or she happened to become misplaced while shopping or meandering around the mall. If you have told your child that you don’t have their picture at the sale or race event, always let your child meet you at the point of sale or finish line.

To guarantee the security of your children’s online and physical lives, be sure to follow these guidelines and tips for their well-being and future. By doing more in their favour, they can always be safe.

Looking back at 2023 and Looking forward to 2024

Hello and welcome to our last #FreeforallFriday blog post for 2023. Today I want to look back at another busy year and remember the events that have shaped my life.

Join me on this lifestyle review of the year and tell me about your big memories, your experiences, and what you might expect from 2024.

Looking back at 2023

This year has been mostly about work for me and my husband. It has been a long, busy, tiring year but we end it feeling closer in our relationship and more settled in our practical situation. The cost-of-living crisis in the UK has affected our family and I felt the need to take on a third part-time job that would bring regular income to pay for groceries, clothes and treats for me and my children. It’s a minimum wage retail job in my hometown, nothing fancy, but it is regular work, it gives me the money that I need and still leaves time for me to work on writing, book sales, blog work and freelancing.

Our children are progressing well at school and are happy and healthy. My younger daughter is in her final year at primary school so the next six months will be emotional as we bring to an end a chapter of our shared lives. She is excited to attend high school and we as a family are ready for change and moving on. Our elder daughter is in her second year at high school and still enjoying it (apart from the teachers that she doesn’t like).

There was a brief issue with bullying but I’m happy to report that the school staff were quick to intervene, and I didn’t have to get involved. I have some very unpleasant memories from my high school years, and I am relieved to see my daughter is so far having a much better experience. She is confident and self-assured, and those are qualities that I want to nurture as she grows. Her thirteenth birthday is fast approaching, so that will kick off 2024 with a bang!

Back to school for me

Early in 2023 I was able to return to education and joined the class for a marketing skills degree. The lessons were done remotely which was still quite a novelty for me as the old lockdown zoom meetings had faded away previously. It was nice to meet new people from different parts of the UK, our tutor was supportive and knowledgeable, and I looked forward to our daily lessons. The marketing skills course filled in gaps in my knowledge and helped me to see where I needed to make improvements in my business. Have you noticed the subtle changes on my blog this year? What do you think of them?

Looking forward to 2024

And so, we look forward to 2024. I intend to make it a year for fun as much as possible, and my additional income should help support that. We already have a family holiday booked for the October half-term and will take our children on an aeroplane for the first time. I have not left the UK since 2009 so it will be a strange experience for me and my husband. Exciting!

I also intend to focus on my books (again). I feel that I have wandered away from my author calling for a few years as I tried to improve my personal finances, but the books have not given up on me. The world needs to know about the Redcliffe novels! The marketing skills degree course did show me that all I am missing is targeted advertising, which needs finance. So, I will start looking at funding options, make some plans, and take it from there.

Who knows where we will go with it? That’s the fun of starting a new year. It could be more of the same, it could be something completely different, it could be a bit of both.

See you next year, folks!

Exploring the Supernatural: Vampires, Werewolves, and the Intriguing World of Redcliffe Novels

Welcome to another enchanting #WitchyWednesday on SpookyMrsGreen.com, where we delve into the mystical realms of paranormal fiction.

Today, we bring you news from Catherine Green, the talented author behind the Redcliffe novels series, as we explore the timeless allure of vampires and the enduring fascination with werewolves in UK fiction.

The Allure of the Vampire:

Vampires have long captivated the human imagination with their timeless allure, and Catherine Green’s Redcliffe novels series is no exception. In her books, vampires play a central role, adding layers of mystery, danger, and seduction to the supernatural tapestry. But what is it about vampires that continues to captivate readers and weave them into the fabric of popular culture?

The excerpt from Catherine’s upcoming novel, “Bite of the Wolf,” offers a glimpse into the complex relationships and power dynamics between the characters. Marcus, a vampire, shares intriguing insights into the ongoing supernatural saga, leaving readers on the edge of their seats. The allure of the vampire lies not only in their immortality and supernatural abilities but also in the rich narratives that explore the intricacies of their existence.

Enduring Attraction to Werewolves:

While vampires reign with elegance and mystique, werewolves bring a primal, untamed energy to the paranormal landscape. In the Redcliffe novels series, werewolves, especially alpha wolf Danny Mason, are an integral part of the supernatural world. The excerpt reveals a web of secrets, betrayals, and a brewing war that keeps readers hooked on the edge of the supernatural precipice.

How They Fit into UK Fiction:

Set against the backdrop of the UK, Catherine Green’s Redcliffe novels seamlessly integrate the supernatural into the everyday. The characters navigate both the mundane and the magical, adding a layer of realism to the fantastical elements. The excerpt introduces us to the complex social structure of the supernatural world, with its hidden nightclubs, ancient rivalries, and impending conflicts. This fusion of the mystical and the familiar is what makes UK paranormal fiction, especially the Redcliffe novels, so captivating.

Exclusive Excerpt from “Bite of the Wolf”:

He made a great show of pulling his phone from his pocket and tapping on the screen. We heard a pinging sound as the message reached Jack and Danny’s phones.

“Thank you,” Jack said.

“I had an interesting conversation with young Mary,” Marcus said, “When she allowed me to speak.”

He looked directly at me and I gasped when an image appeared in my mind, of Marcus bound in chains, naked, with blood dripping from his face. I saw a shadowy figure beside him, a woman dressed in what looked like black leather underwear. Shaking my head vigorously, I tried to shake the image from my mind, desperate to dislodge the potent lust that had lashed my body with it. I glared at Marcus, throwing more electrical energy towards him, smiling wickedly when it hit his body and he winced in pain.

“Don’t do that again,” I ordered in a low growl.

“Sorry, witch,” he murmured, although he looked anything but.

“Marcus,” Jack said sharply, “What did you talk about with Mary?”

The vampires faced each other now, one angry and sullen, the other mischievous and very pleased with himself.

“She told me about her fling with a new wolf in the pack,” Marcus said, “one who had travelled from England and sought protection from a new family. His name was Adam Potts.”

I frowned, completely confused now, and I looked to Jack and Danny for help.

“Adam Potts is my alter ego,” Danny explained, glancing at me half apologetically, “The name I used while I was in Glasgow. The name we both used.” He glanced at Jack, who nodded agreement.

“Yes,” Marcus continued, walking slowly across the room and returning to his place on the sofa, “She was a little bit infatuated with you, I believe. And she needed to release a lot of pent-up anger and disappointment when you left.”

“You didn’t tell her the truth about us,” Jack asked in a heavy voice, “Did you, Marcus?”

“Oh no,” the vampire replied, “I would never betray my friends.”

He emphasised the word friends, and he made direct eye contact with Jack and Danny in quick succession.

“She already knew about the Mason brothers,” Marcus continued, “Seamus Tulley left her in charge when he came to Redcliffe seeking revenge. She was tasked with rebuilding their broken wolf pack and redirecting the business through her own nightclub. The authorities rarely bothered her there, you see. It was forbidden to humans, and the police gave it a wide berth.”

“Why didn’t you know about the club?” I asked suddenly, and then immediately wished I hadn’t when Jack and Danny both glowered at me.

“We did know about the club,” Jack said through clenched teeth, “But like I said, we thought I had killed her. The club wasn’t important at that time.”

I nodded and realised that I needed to sit down. My legs felt weak and my heart was pounding heavily. I moved slowly, not focusing, and sank down onto the sofa, barely noticing how close I was to Marcus. Danny moved over to the armchair and perched on the seat, his body tense. Jack hovered near the window, watching Marcus and me. He always had a strange kind of respect for the older vampire. I realised that he didn’t like me being so close to Marcus, but he wasn’t about to try and move me, either. That was interesting.

“What did she tell you, Marcus?” Danny asked, trying to sound friendly and relaxed, “She must know the truth about us by now.”

Marcus nodded.

“She knows your true identities,” he confirmed, “Seamus Tulley kept her well informed when he discovered your betrayal. She knew who Jack was when they tried to kill each other. Did you know that, Jack?”

I looked at my boyfriend, who shifted uneasily beneath our gaze. He looked more human, suddenly, and I found that very strange in the circumstances. He must have been really upset to learn that he hadn’t killed the rival werewolf.

“No,” he said after a pause, “She called me Adam throughout the whole thing.”

“She is smart,” Marcus said, “I know that much. Well, she had prepared to take over the wolf pack, such as it was, but she is still very raw about the whole episode. She certainly took out some rage on me, I can tell you. What a week that was!”

He stared into space for a few moments, a faint smile on his face, and I squirmed uncomfortably beside him. I did not want him projecting another of those horrific images into my mind, and I threw up a protective shield of magical energy.

“Did she say anything else, Marcus?” Danny asked, breaking the uncomfortable silence.

Marcus turned his face slowly towards my alpha.

“Yes,” he said, his eyes bright and icy, “As a matter of fact, she did. This war is not over, apparently. She is biding her time, building her army, but she wants the Mason brothers dead. And she wants to be the one that kills you both.”

Intricate web of relationships

As we embrace the supernatural allure of vampires and the enduring fascination with werewolves, Catherine Green’s Redcliffe novels series takes us on a thrilling journey through the mystical landscapes of UK paranormal fiction. The excerpt from “Bite of the Wolf” leaves us hungry for more, eager to explore the intricate web of relationships and conflicts that define this captivating world.

Stay tuned for more enchanting insights into the world of paranormal fiction every #WitchyWednesday on SpookyMrsGreen.com. And, of course, keep an eye out for Catherine Green’s upcoming novel, “Bite of the Wolf,” to dive deeper into the supernatural saga that continues to bewitch readers worldwide.

The Great British Siesta

Sleep expert Dr Nerina Ramlakhan reveals that the post-lunch slump can be linked to a comedown from a glucose spike. “Our energy levels are impacted by what we eat and when we eat it. It’s the process of our metabolism – and as your body breaks down food for energy, one of the nutrients that’s absorbed is glucose.

The research by metabolism app Lingo, also shows a third (30%) of Brits regularly fall asleep on the train, while 24% drop off on the bus and in the cinema.

While 20% say they have fallen asleep in the bath and EVEN at their desk (18%).

Two thirds (66%) say that having forty winks is a highlight of their day, with a snuggly and soft blanket (48%), no one else around (42%) and a warm room temperature (42%) are the ingredients for a perfect snooze.

More than one third want the curtains closed (37%) and a comfy sofa (34%), while one in three (31%) can’t doze without a proper pillow or sleeping in their own bed (26%).

Three quarters (76%) of 30 to 44-year-olds say that taking a nap is the best time of their day, compared to just 41% of over 60s.

Do You take an Afternoon Nap?

Do you take an afternoon nap on a workday or on your day off? I don’t do that personally but that’s because I’m always busy with one task or another. It does seem like an appealing option for some days, but since I work shifts that start around 4pm in the afternoon, I’m not sure it would benefit me as I would be left feeling groggy. Plus, I would feel mean taking a nap while my children are in school! Share your opinions or experiences in the comments.

The Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice, also known as Yule, marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It holds profound significance across various cultures and is a time for reflection, renewal, and the celebration of light amidst the darkness. Witches and pagans embrace the solstice as a powerful moment to connect with nature, honour the cycles of life, and welcome the return of the sun.

Setting the Scene

To create a magical ambiance for your Winter Solstice celebration, start by adorning your space with symbols of the season. Incorporate evergreen branches, holly, and mistletoe to symbolize life’s enduring strength during the winter months. Light candles in shades of red, green, and gold to represent the sun’s returning energy and the warmth it brings to the world.

Feast of the Season

No celebration is complete without a feast! Embrace the flavours of the season by incorporating winter vegetables, hearty stews, and spiced treats into your menu. Consider leaving offerings for the spirits of nature, expressing gratitude for the gifts the earth provides even in the coldest months.

Rituals and Traditions

Engage in meaningful rituals to connect with the spiritual energy of the Winter Solstice. Consider a candle-lighting ceremony, where each candle represents an intention for the coming months. You may also perform a Yule log ritual, symbolizing the burning away of the old to make room for the new.

Divination and Reflection

Winter Solstice is an ideal time for divination and introspection. Use tarot cards, runes, or other divination tools to gain insight into the path that lies ahead. Take time for personal reflection, acknowledging the lessons of the past year and setting intentions for personal growth in the months to come.

Connect with Nature

Whether you live in a bustling city or a rural haven, take a moment to connect with nature. Bundle up and take a moonlit walk, feeling the crisp winter air on your face. Offer gratitude to the earth for its cycles and acknowledge the beauty of the natural world.
