#WitchyWednesday: Creating a Sacred Space at Home

Choosing a Space

First, select a space in your home that feels comfortable and private. This could be a corner of a room, a niche by a window, or even a small table in your bedroom. The key is to find somewhere you can return to regularly without distractions. My sacred space is a dresser in my dining room, around which I have concentrated the energy that I need to feel strong, safe and connected.

Setting Up Your Altar

1. Cleansing: Before you begin setting up your altar, cleanse the space. You can use tools like sage, Palo Santo, or simply visualize white light clearing away any stagnant energy.

2. Altar Table or Surface: Choose a table or surface for your altar. It can be a small side table, shelf, or even a decorative cloth on the floor. This will be your sacred foundation.

3. Elements: Incorporate elements that resonate with you. This could include:

   – Earth: Crystals, stones, plants, or herbs.

   – Air: Incense, feathers, or bells.

   – Fire: Candles or a small cauldron.

   – Water: A small bowl of water or a seashell.

4. Personal Items: Add personal items such as photos of loved ones, meaningful symbols, or objects that represent your spiritual journey.

5. Ritual Tools: Include tools you use for rituals or meditation, such as a wand, athame, or tarot cards.

#MummyMonday: Mindful Parenting – Encouraging Outdoor Play and Exploration

Hello, lovely mums and dads! 🌿

Today on #MummyMonday, let’s dive into the magical world of outdoor play and exploration. In a time where screens often dominate our children’s attention, encouraging them to step outside can feel like a challenge. However, the benefits of outdoor play are immense and worth every effort. Plus, with summer in full swing, what better time to embrace the great outdoors?

The Benefits of Outdoor Play

1. Physical Health:

Outdoor play is a fantastic way for children to engage in physical activity, which is crucial for their growth and development. Activities such as running, jumping, and climbing not only build strength and coordination but also help combat childhood obesity.

2. Mental Well-being:

Nature has a calming effect on the mind. Exposure to natural environments can reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of ADHD. Fresh air and sunshine also boost mood and energy levels, making for happier children.

3. Creativity and Imagination:

The outdoors is the perfect canvas for imaginative play. From building forts to creating fairy gardens, children can let their creativity run wild. Natural settings encourage exploration and curiosity, fostering a lifelong love of learning.

4. Social Skills:

Playing outside often involves interaction with other children. This helps kids develop essential social skills such as communication, cooperation, and empathy. Group activities and team sports are excellent for teaching these skills in a fun, engaging way.

5. Connection with Nature:

Developing a connection with nature instils a sense of responsibility and care for the environment. Children who spend time outdoors are more likely to grow up valuing and protecting the natural world.

Outdoor Activities to Try with Your Kids

Here are some simple yet exciting outdoor activities to try with your little ones:

– Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items found in nature (e.g., a feather, a smooth rock, a yellow flower) and embark on a scavenger hunt.

– Gardening: Start a small garden or plant some flowers. This teaches children about plant life cycles and responsibility.

– Outdoor Art: Use natural materials like leaves, sticks, and stones to create art projects.

– Hiking: Explore local trails and parks. Bring along a picnic and make a day of it.

– Beach Play: If you’re near the coast, building sandcastles, collecting shells, and splashing in the waves are timeless fun.

The Power of Solitude: A Journey to Mindful Parenting and Modern Pagan Living

Hello, dear readers of SpookyMrsGreen.com! 🌿✨

Today, I want to delve into a topic close to my heart: the power of solitude. As a mindful parent and modern pagan, I’ve found that embracing moments of solitude is essential for personal growth, spiritual enrichment, and effective parenting. Let’s explore why solitude is such a transformative and necessary practice in our busy lives.

Black and white image of a woman wearing a white dress sitting on a bench look down at her feet. Text reads, “Solitude is not always a bad thing. Goldstone Reiki.” Shared by Catherine Green, Reiki Master Practitioner at Goldstone Reiki and SpookyMrsGreen.com.
The Power of Solitude: A Journey to Mindful Parenting and Modern Pagan Living

Solitude: A Sanctuary for the Soul

In our modern world, filled with constant connectivity and endless to-do lists, solitude often gets a bad rap. We tend to associate being alone with loneliness, but solitude is far from that. It’s a sanctuary, a place where we can reconnect with our true selves away from the noise and expectations of the outside world. For those of us on a mindful parenting and pagan path, this sacred alone time is a powerful tool for nurturing our spirits and enhancing our practices.

Solitude and Mindful Parenting

As parents, our lives revolve around our children. We are caregivers, teachers, and role models. However, we can only fulfil these roles effectively if we take the time to nurture ourselves. Solitude provides a much-needed break, a moment to breathe and regain our inner balance.

Reflection and Growth: Taking time for ourselves allows us to reflect on our parenting journey, to understand what is working and what needs adjusting. It’s in these quiet moments that we often find solutions to challenges and innovative ways to connect with our children.

Patience and Presence: Solitude helps us cultivate patience. When we are well-rested and centred, we can be fully present with our children, offering them the calm, attentive love they deserve.

The Pagan Perspective: Solitude as Sacred Space

In pagan traditions, solitude is deeply intertwined with spiritual practice. It is in solitude that we can connect more deeply with nature, the divine, and our inner wisdom.

Ritual and Reflection: Solitude offers the perfect opportunity for personal rituals and meditations. Whether it’s a simple daily grounding exercise or a more elaborate seasonal ritual, these solitary practices help us attune to the cycles of nature and the energies around us.

Connecting with Nature: Spending time alone in nature, whether in a forest, by the sea, or in a quiet garden, allows us to sense the subtle energies of the earth. This connection is a cornerstone of pagan spirituality, fostering a sense of unity with all living things.

Practical Tips for Embracing Solitude

1. Set Boundaries: Make solitude a priority by setting boundaries with your time. Let your family know that you need a few moments each day for yourself and encourage them to do the same.

2. Create a Sacred Space: Designate a spot in your home or garden where you can retreat for solitude. This space can be adorned with items that bring you peace and inspiration.

3. Mindful Activities: Engage in activities that promote mindfulness during your alone time. Journaling, meditating, walking in nature, or simply sitting in silence can be profoundly rejuvenating.

4. Regular Practice: Make solitude a regular practice. Even a few minutes each day can make a significant difference in your overall well-being.

Embrace the Power of Solitude

Solitude is not about isolating ourselves from the world; it’s about creating a space where we can recharge and reconnect. By embracing solitude, we become better parents, more mindful individuals, and more attuned practitioners of our spiritual paths.

As we navigate the beautiful chaos of parenting and the deep, enriching journey of modern pagan living, let us remember the importance of stepping back, breathing deeply, and finding peace in our own company.

Blessings of peace and solitude to you all.

#BookReview: “The 10 Principles of the Feminine: How to Embrace Feminine Energy and Find the Power Within” by Roxana Dragusel

I received a copy of “The 10 Principles of the Feminine: How to Embrace Feminine Energy and Find the Power Within” by Roxana Dragusel from the publisher.

My Review of “The 10 Principles of the Feminine: How to Embrace Feminine Energy and Find the Power Within” by Roxana Dragusel

This is a nice little book and I read it quickly. The author comes to it from a Reiki background, and as a fellow Reiki Master Practitioner, I nodded along as I read the book. She discusses the nature of feminine energy in relation to, and independently of, masculine energy, and how it relates to men and women in the modern world. It might sound complicated, but she breaks it down easily into short chapters and you do come away feeling enlightened. The book is useful if you struggle to find your way in the world and feel that you cannot be your authentic self around other people.

About the Book

What is feminine energy and how much of it do you have? Or perhaps you believe that you don’t have any?

Addressed to both men and women who seek their own authenticity and their own definition of what being a man, or a woman is, “The 10 principles of the Feminine” is about discovering what feminine energy is — beyond any dictionary definition — and why it’s important to honour and cultivate it.

Feminine energy is not an attribute of the fairer sex; it is a component of all living things, and its true meaning seems to have been lost somewhere and, with it, people’s potential of authentic self-expression. So, identifying feminine energy in yourself and others, and connecting to it, is essential for leading a balanced and fulfilling life. If you don’t feel fulfilled or seen, then perhaps you aren’t in tune with your feminine aspect.

The 10 principles outlined in here are meant to guide the reader towards a better understanding and appreciation of the feminine, which beyond everything, represents our inner power and capacity to connect to the eternal and the ethereal, as well as to seek and find true love.

This book is therefore a practical guide for integrating the spiritual aspect into our earthly existence, reconciling the feminine with the masculine in an approachable and concise way, without pertaining to a certain spiritual or religious ideology.

Buy the book: Amazon; Waterstones; WHSmith.

Mindful Parenting: Creating a Calm Morning Routine for Kids

Hello, lovely readers! Today is July 1st, and we’re officially counting down to the school summer holidays. This year holds a special poignance for our family, as my youngest daughter is about to finish Primary School. This milestone signals the end of our Primary School journey, a path we’ve been on for many years with both of my children.

As a mum, I find myself feeling quite emotional. The school run and all the associated activities have been a significant part of our daily lives, and now we are preparing to transition to High School in September.

With these changes on the horizon, it’s more important than ever to approach the end of the school year with a mindful attitude. Recognising and embracing our emotions, while celebrating the experiences and achievements we’ve shared, can help us navigate this transition with grace and positivity. One way to cultivate this mindfulness is by establishing a calm morning routine. Here are some tips to help you and your children start the day positively:

Image of a dad with his children walking to school on a residential street. Text reads, “#MummyMonday. Creating a Calm Morning Routine for Kids. Simple Tips to Create a Peaceful Morning Routine Together at SpookyMrsGreen.com.” Mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
Mindful Parenting: Creating a Calm Morning Routine for Kids

Tips for a Calm Morning Routine

1. Prepare the Night Before

   – Clothes and Supplies: Lay out your children’s clothes and pack their school bags the night before. This eliminates the morning scramble and ensures that everything is ready to go. As they grow older, they might choose to do these activities themselves. My daughters both chose to prepare their own school uniforms and lunch bags when they reached Year 5 because they decided that they wanted to be more “grown up” and more independent.

   – Lunches: Prepare lunchboxes in the evening, so all you need to do is grab and go in the morning. Both my girls take packed lunches to school, so I routinely check our food cupboard to ensure that their favourite snacks and drinks are available. This reduces stress in the morning when they can just grab their lunches and go to school.

2. Create a Morning Checklist

   – Having a checklist can help children understand what needs to be done each morning. This can include tasks like brushing teeth, getting dressed, and packing their bags. It provides a clear structure and reduces the chances of forgetting important steps. My younger daughter has a chalkboard on her bedroom door where she writes her checklist. We also have a white board in the hallway where my children, my husband and I can write our daily checklists so that we all know what we need to do and when.

3. Wake Up Early

   – Allow yourself and your children enough time in the morning so you’re not rushing. Waking up just 15-30 minutes earlier can make a significant difference. This extra time can be used for a calm breakfast together, a bit of stretching, or simply a few moments of quiet. We like to set our alarms for half an hour before we need to get out of bed so that we can snooze them and wake up slowly.

4. Establish a Consistent Routine

   – Consistency is key to a peaceful morning. Try to wake up, have breakfast, and leave the house at the same times each day. This predictability can be very comforting for children and helps them know what to expect. During Primary school I agreed a set time with my daughters for when we needed to be getting dressed, eating our breakfast and leaving the house, and it worked well when they got older and were able to understand how much it improved our stress levels. I will admit that we didn’t always get it right when they were young!

5. Incorporate Mindful Moments

   – Introduce simple mindfulness practices into your morning routine. This could be a few deep breaths, a short meditation, or even a moment of gratitude. For example, while eating breakfast, you could take turns sharing one thing you’re grateful for. Both my daughters will make time for a hug with me before they go to school as this relaxes them and gives reassurance when the world is overwhelming.

6. Limit Screen Time

   – Screens can be a major distraction in the morning. Try to keep the television, tablets, and phones off until after your children are fully ready for the day. This helps keep them focused on the tasks at hand. I admit that I kind of gave up on this point as my girls will carry their phones around the house while they get dressed and have breakfast. They need the background noise, and since it doesn’t affect their timekeeping, I decided that it wasn’t an issue for our household, and I should choose my battles. You can decide what works for your family based on neurodiversity and personal circumstances.

7. Positive Affirmations

   – Start the day with positive affirmations. You can do this together as a family, encouraging each other with kind words and positive thoughts. This can boost your children’s confidence and set a positive tone for the day. Sometimes I will stick Post-It notes on cupboard doors with an affirmation such as, “Today I will smile more” or even just a smiley face to cheer my children up (and my autistic husband).

Embracing the Transition

As we approach the end of the school year and the beginning of a new chapter, it’s crucial to stay mindful and present. A calm morning routine not only sets a positive tone for the day but also helps us cherish these final moments of our Primary School journey. It’s okay to feel emotional; it’s a testament to the love and dedication we’ve put into these years. Let’s celebrate our experiences, the friendships made, and the milestones achieved.

A mindful approach to our mornings can make a world of difference as we navigate these transitions. Let’s embrace the change, celebrate our journey, and look forward to the new adventures High School will bring.

Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful morning routine!

My Review of “The Journey Across Forever: A Magical Provocative Odyssey Across the Ages, Around the World & into the Great Beyond” by Wayne Saalman

I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I don’t feel a connection with the author and his constant references to life in the 60s, I don’t know. The blurb sold it to me and gave me high hopes for insight and wonderful revelations, but it didn’t deliver. There were a few interesting stories about the author’s personal spiritual experiences, but that was just a couple of chapters. For the most part I lost interest and even felt a little irritated because I felt like he talked about popular culture and music, especially The Beatles, more than he discussed the subjects I was expecting to learn about. This one is not for me.

About the Book

A Magical Mystery Ride through the Prism of History in a Search for the Answers to Humanity’s Highest Dreams. The Journey Across Forever is a powerful collection of writings detailing the author’s metaphysical insights and paranormal experiences over the decades as he traveled the world in a quest for truth and enlightenment.

Topics under discussion include the profound mysteries of consciousness, precognition, karma, reincarnation, the “Phenomenon” (UAPs), the Dreamtime of the Aborigines, Hermeticism, alchemy and the ‘secret knowledge’, shamanism, psychotropics and the three forms of magic. Saalman reveals what the physicist, the mystic and all seekers of truth have in common and explains why climate change, the power of social media, the threat of “apocalyptic” politics and the nefarious appeal of the dark web are a spiritual challenge for each of us.

Above all, The Journey Across Forever deeply explores why it is crucial that we heed the words, here and now, of those who have had a near-death experience if we genuinely believe in the reality of spiritual immortality and wish to make our way to higher dimensions upon our own exit from this planet. Navigating the World of Cosmetic Procedures with Teenagers

Hello, spooky friends! Welcome back to another #MummyMonday on SpookyMrsGreen.com.

Today, I want to dive into a topic that’s been on my mind lately, especially as a mother of teenage daughters: the rising popularity of cosmetic procedures among young people.

Navigating the World of Cosmetic Procedures with Teenagers

Recently, I watched a fascinating documentary on ITV2 presented by Olivia Attwood, where she visited cosmetic clinics and explored the various procedures women are opting for today. It was eye-opening (pun intended) to see the lengths some individuals go to for aesthetic enhancement. As someone who has recently had Botox injections around my eyes for medical reasons, I’ve noticed a significant improvement not only in my vision but also in my appearance. This experience has led me to ponder the broader implications of cosmetic surgery.

I had Botox to address corneal neuralgia, a side effect of my congenital disease, Lymphodoema Distichiasis, a condition that was affecting my ability to see clearly. The medical benefits were immediate and tangible, but the cosmetic uplift was an unexpected bonus. I love how my eyes now appear more open, allowing me to engage with the world around me more fully. My eyebrows look arched rather than the previous perpetual frown I lived with, and I like the way I look. This positive change has made me wonder: Could cosmetic procedures be a worthwhile consideration not just for their aesthetic benefits but for their potential to enhance our overall well-being?

The Appeal of Cosmetic Procedures for the Younger Generation

It’s no secret that cosmetic procedures are becoming increasingly popular among young people. Social media, celebrity culture, and the pursuit of the ‘perfect’ look contribute significantly to this trend. Our teenagers are growing up in a world where beauty standards are not only high but also constantly on display. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok amplify the pressure to look a certain way, and cosmetic enhancements are often portrayed as a quick fix to achieve those ideals.

A Mother’s Perspective: Future Considerations

As a mother, I’m concerned about the impact these societal pressures may have on my daughters. I want them to grow up confident in their natural beauty and to understand that self-worth is not solely tied to appearance. However, I also recognize that cosmetic procedures can be empowering if they are chosen for the right reasons.

If my daughters express interest in cosmetic enhancements as they grow older, I hope to guide them through a thoughtful decision-making process. It’s important to consider not only the immediate aesthetic outcomes but also the long-term implications, including the physical and emotional impacts.

Is Cosmetic Surgery Worth It?

This brings us to a crucial question: Is cosmetic surgery worth the pain and cost if it helps us feel better about ourselves? Based on my personal experience with Botox, I can say that the benefits go beyond the surface. Feeling more comfortable and confident in your appearance can positively affect your mental health and overall quality of life. However, it’s essential to weigh these benefits against the potential risks and costs involved.

Final Thoughts

Cosmetic procedures are a deeply personal choice and can be a valuable tool for enhancing self-esteem and well-being when approached with care and consideration. As we navigate this complex topic, it’s crucial to foster open and honest conversations with our children about beauty, self-image, and the motivations behind choosing such procedures.

For now, I’m enjoying my rejuvenated appearance and the boost in confidence it brings. And as my daughters grow, I’ll continue to encourage them to appreciate their unique beauty while remaining open to discussions about cosmetic enhancements should they become a point of interest.

My Review of “Love Earth Now: The Power of Doing One Thing Every Day” by Cheryl Leutjen

I didn’t learn anything new or surprising from this book, but I think it is worth reading if you are conscious about the environment and how we can support a sustainable future for our children. I liked the little meditations at the end of each chapter and the way that the book is written. It makes it easy to fit into your busy day, and it reminds you of the ways in which you already support environmental awareness, so it might even cheer you up when you feel overwhelmed with responsibility.

About the Book

Reach a State of Sustainable Living and Eco-Mindfulness

“Love Earth Now” invites us to explore our thoughts and feelings about the waste and negative environment impacts we see daily. Author Cheryl Leutjen draws from her experience as an engineering geologist, environmental law attorney, small shop owner, and mindfulness practitioner to help put you on a path to sustainable living and environmental consciousness.

Merge environmentalism and spirituality. Do you find yourself wondering what on Earth you can do about the serious environmental challenges we face? Do you worry there’s nothing any one person can do to make a difference? Most people say they would like to do something to make the world a better place, but they just don’t believe they have the time, energy, money or power to do anything to make a real difference. Are you willing to devote 20 minutes a week to find out? Environmental activist Cheryl Leutjen has the planet’s back and is betting you do too. Her powerful book of inspired ideas and eco-mindfulness calls upon us all to Love Earth Now.

Get closer to a sustainable lifestyle, one day at a time. All our possessions and constant shopping are no better for us than they are for the planet itself. They contribute to landfills and create a tech-tethered society that is increasingly isolated. Both helpful and hopeful, Love Earth Now is brimming with creative ideas we can all try.

Practice Eco-mindfulness. Cheryl’s book of planetary self-help and eco-mindfulness is a deeply thoughtful and lucid look at the state of our “big blue marble,” our beautiful earth. It’s also a sourcebook of direct actions (large and small) we can all take to ensure our children and their children’s children have a healthy future on this planet.
