Embracing Eco-Friendly Toiletries: A Sustainable Choice for a Greener Tomorrow

In our fast-paced lives, the daily ritual of using toiletry products is often overlooked. We grab what’s convenient without considering the impact these products might have on the environment.

As the world wakes up to the importance of sustainable living, it’s crucial to extend our eco-conscious efforts to every aspect of our lives, including personal care products. In this blog post, we’ll explore why it’s essential to care about the toiletry products we use and how they impact the environment.

Plus, we’ll introduce you to an eco-friendly alternative: Wild Cosmetics, a brand committed to providing sustainable and natural toiletries delivered right to your door.

The Environmental Impact of Toiletry Products:

1. Chemical Pollution:

Many conventional toiletry products contain harmful chemicals that, when washed off, end up in our waterways. These chemicals can harm aquatic life and disrupt ecosystems. Choosing natural and eco-friendly products helps minimize chemical pollution.

2. Plastic Waste:

The toiletry industry is a significant contributor to plastic waste. From shampoo bottles to toothpaste tubes, the packaging often ends up in landfills or oceans. Opting for products with minimal or sustainable packaging can significantly reduce your plastic footprint.

3. Carbon Footprint:

The production and transportation of toiletry products contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. By choosing products with sustainable sourcing and production practices, you can lower your carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier planet.

Why Choose Wild Cosmetics:

Wild Cosmetics is a brand that aligns with the growing demand for sustainable and natural toiletries. Here’s why you should consider making the switch to their products:

1. Natural Ingredients:

Wild Cosmetics prioritizes natural ingredients, steering clear of harmful chemicals commonly found in traditional products. Their deodorants and body care items are crafted to provide effective results without compromising your health or the environment.

2. Refillable Packaging:

One of the most significant contributions to reducing plastic waste is Wild Cosmetics’ commitment to refillable packaging. Their products come in sleek, durable containers that can be easily refilled, cutting down on single-use plastic.

3. Convenient Delivery:

Wild Cosmetics understands the importance of convenience in our busy lives. With their subscription service, you can have your favourite natural deodorants and body care items delivered straight to your door, eliminating the need for last-minute store runs.

Exclusive 20% Off with Code: MRSGREEN

As a special treat for our readers, Wild Cosmetics is offering an exclusive 20% discount on all their products. Simply use the code MRSGREEN at checkout to enjoy the benefits of high-quality, eco-friendly toiletries at a discounted price. Click here to use your discount code.

Make a Positive Impact on Our World

Making informed choices about the toiletry products we use is a small yet impactful step towards a more sustainable future. By supporting brands like Wild Cosmetics, we not only prioritize our well-being but also contribute to the well-being of our planet. Embrace eco-friendly toiletries, reduce your environmental footprint, and let’s build a greener tomorrow together!

My Home Renovation: Small Bedroom Makeover

I’ve been busy in the home! This year’s home renovation project was unexpected, but the result is quite spectacular. I must praise my husband for a job well done, as this was all his idea and his inspiration.

Read my blog post to see how we created the perfect teenage bedroom for our youngest daughter in a tiny bedroom at our 1950’s semi-detached house.

Green background with a photo of a tween child sitting in bed in a trendy teenage bedroom with black furniture, green walls and safari print curtains and duvet. There are plush toy animals on the shelf and a metal pegboard from IKEA on the wall. Text reads, “My Home Renovation: Small Bedroom Makeover. Creating a cosy and functional retreat for a Tween. Transforming a small space at SpookyMrsGreen.com.” #MummyMonday blog post at SpookyMrsGreen.com mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
My Home Renovation: Small Bedroom Makeover

Building a House Extension

It all began with a visit to the Homebuilding and Renovation Show at Birmingham NEC earlier this year. My husband and I had planned to extend our house when our mortgage contract came up for renewal. We wanted to extend our kitchen and living space downstairs and create a larger fourth bedroom upstairs. Unfortunately, we were brought down to earth with a bump when we learned just how expensive a home building job is in the current financial climate. We couldn’t afford it.

Following a lengthy meeting with our mortgage advisor which ended in an agreement to renew our contract for two years, at which point we will review the extension plan and try to find necessary funds, we realised that we needed a new plan. We returned home, sulked for a while, felt sorry for ourselves, and then we decided to try something different.

Small Bedroom Makeover

Our 1950’s semi-detached house is a typical British home for its time. We have decent living space, although it is dated and doesn’t quite fit our collection of musical instruments and craft supplies. Our kitchen and bathroom are vintage, having been installed most likely in the 1970s or possibly earlier, I’m not sure. They need an upgrade, but we can’t afford that right now. And then there is the tiny third bedroom.

Measuring a neat 2.36m x 2.3m, our third bedroom is tiny. It sits at the front of the house above the hallway and includes a built-in cupboard that sits above the staircase. For the past two years it has been used as a playroom by our children while they shared a bunk bed in the large second bedroom belonging to our eldest daughter. She is almost a teenager now and she wants her space back. Our younger daughter, now in her last year at Primary school, wanted her own bedroom. But it needed modernising.

My husband spent some time measuring the room from all angles, and eventually decided that we could fit a full-sized single bed in the room, a tiny desk, and some wall cupboards and shelves for storage. It would require moving the radiator from its location underneath the window, but fortunately my brother is a plumber, so I called in a favour. He moved the radiator to a new location near the bedroom door, which is actually better because it sends heat to the landing as well as the bedroom.

Before and after images of a small bedroom makeover project. Photo of a tween child standing on a ladder painting a cupboard. Small Bedroom Makeover: Before and After

Stripping the Wallpaper

My job was to decorate the bedroom. During the school summer holiday, my daughters and I began to strip away the ancient wallpaper. We went shopping for paint and my daughter chose a lovely shade of green (her favourite colour) for the walls, along with white gloss for the built-in cupboard and skirting boards. I decided not to paint the ceiling because I just couldn’t face it, and it looks fine as it is. My daughter also requested chalkboard paint for her bedroom door having seen this idea in a blog post we found.

Due to it being a small bedroom, stripping the wallpaper and repainting the walls didn’t take too long. My biggest challenge was painting the built-in cupboard and stripping wallpaper around the window, where it had welded on and was not coming away easily. But we got there in the end, and my husband installed a shiny new curtain pole, removing the childish yellow one that we had previously used. With the radiator moved and the walls freshly painted, we were ready for a new carpet. My daughter chose a luxurious black carpet, and it looks and feels wonderful!

A trip to IKEA

Then came the furniture. We enjoyed a family visit to our local IKEA store in Warrington, which we hadn’t visited for many years. Indeed, I think it was our daughters’ first visit to the shop. We gathered lots of ideas, and I think that’s where my daughter got her inspiration for the colour scheme. She decided she wanted black furniture to coordinate with the green paint. We agreed on the MALM bed and MICKE desk for her room, along with a couple of floating shelves and three square wall cupboards. My husband did an amazing job assembling and fitting the furniture, so I want to say well done, Mr Green!

The room came together beautifully, and I took my daughters to Dunelm to browse soft furnishings for the finishing touch. We found a lovely safari themed duvet cover set and matching curtains, and since my youngest daughter is an animal-lover, she decided that was what she wanted. The coordinating silver curtain pole came from Dunelm, along with the chalkboard paint. Finally, my husband installed a TV at the foot of the bed, which was a birthday present from the grandparents.

The Perfect Tween Bedroom

And there we have it, the perfect tween bedroom that will easily last throughout our daughter’s teenage years. I am really impressed with how it turned out, and I am thankful for the vision from my husband. I admit that I did get very miserable when our extension plan was denied, and I struggled to see how we could modernise the tiny, scruffy, neglected bedroom. Sometimes you just need a nudge in the right direction. I also want to thank the bank of Mum and Dad (my in-laws) for financing the project. What do you think of our tiny bedroom makeover?

Smart spending: Finance Expert Reveals Top Tips about Christmas Budgeting

Have you begun your Christmas shopping? Perhaps you are putting it off because money is tight, and you can’t afford to take on more debt. How confident are people when it comes to speaking to their loved ones about setting a budget for Christmas gifts?

With the average Christmas budget per household said to be £642, it can be a sensitive and potentially awkward conversation at first. However, understanding your financial boundaries and that of those around you is key to ensuring everyone has a comfortable and enjoyable holiday season.

In this blog post I share advice from a money expert about how to talk to your loved ones about setting a limit to your Christmas gift shopping.

Top Tips for Spending Less this Christmas

Finance expert, Sarah Connelly, at Cashfloat has shared 10 ways to talk to your loved ones about setting a money limit this Christmas:

1. Choose the right time and place – Select a time when everyone involved is relaxed and not stressed, this might be a family meeting or a casual conversation over dinner. Make sure it’s a private setting, so everyone feels comfortable discussing their financial limits.

2. Be transparent and honest – Approach the conversation with honesty and transparency. Try to explain that you want to make sure everyone has a great Christmas without overspending and potentially creating financial stress in the aftermath.

3. Focus on the benefits – Highlight the advantages of setting a money limit, such as reducing financial strain, ensuring that everyone can participate, and fostering a spirit of sharing without financial pressure.

4. Listen to their concerns – Be open to hearing your loved ones’ concerns and preferences as they might have different ideas about what’s reasonable, and it’s important to listen to their perspectives. You may need to find a compromise that works for everyone.

5. Set clear guidelines – Be specific about the financial limit you propose. Discuss what the limit covers, such as gifts, decorations, and other holiday expenses, to make sure everyone understands the boundaries.

6. Create a budget – Encourage everyone to create a budget for Christmas spending and ensure this is the same for each person. This will help ensure that the money limit is adhered to and prevent anyone from feeling uncomfortable or left out.

7. Offer creative alternatives – Suggest alternative ways to celebrate the holidays that don’t involve spending money, such as homemade gifts or focusing on experiences rather than materialistic items.

8. Be flexible – Be willing to adjust the budget, if necessary, as circumstances can change, and it’s essential to be flexible and understanding of others’ financial situations as well as your own.

9. Respect each other’s choices – Understand that not everyone may agree with the idea of setting a budget, and that’s okay. Respect their choices and encourage them to participate in a way that feels comfortable for them.

10. Plan ahead – Start planning for Christmas early to avoid last-minute stress and overspending. By having a clear plan in place, this will help ensure everyone sticks to the agreed-upon limits, to enjoy a happy and memorable Christmas!

Have a Happy Christmas

Some people have already begun Christmas shopping, others will wait until they find the best Black Friday deals online. I tend to wait until late November, early December, but I always have a small budget for Christmas shopping since my wage as a writer is not generous and I simply cannot afford. My focus is always on our children first, then our niece and nephews, and then family and friends as much as my budget allows. Please share your Christmas money-saving tips in the comments and have a happy festive season!

20 Most Terrifying Jump Scares in Film History

Researchers quizzed the nation to reveal the biggest “jump scare” moments from our favourite films, with Hooper finding fishermen Ben Gardner’s boat (and his head) in the 1978 classic, Jaws taking the top spot, with 31 percent of the vote.

The shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 Psycho scooped second with 25 percent of the vote, while Dallas discovering the alien in an air shaft from Alien (18 percent) came third.

Carrie’s hand bursting out from her grave, in the 1976 adaptation of Stephen King’s first novel (17 percent) and Drew Barrymore’s character, Casey seeing Ghostface for the first time in modern horror classic, Scream (17 percent) round off the top five in the list, which was released by Papa John’s, to celebrate their new Halloween shaped pizza, the Jack-o’-Lantern.

Other scenes to make the list, include Robbie’s clown doll coming to life in Poltergeist (16 percent), Pennywise coming out of the screen as the children watch an old scratchy film in scary movie, It (16 percent), Mills and Somerset discovering a body that isn’t quite dead in Se7en (12 percent) and the kitchen exploding in Paranormal Activity 2 (11 percent).

Modern Classics Make an Appearance

Modern classics also make an appearance in the top 20 with Beau’s noisy spaceship getting him taken by a monster (nine percent) in The Quiet Place and Cecilia pouring white paint from the attic and revealing the invisible man right in front of her in the 2020 film, The Invisible Man (seven percent).

Three quarters (73 percent) admit they end up jumping when they watch a scary movie, with one in three (36 percent) hiding behind a cushion to get through it. Modern Brits (18 to 29 years-old) are most on edge (82 percent), while over 60s (59 percent) are the most relaxed.

One in three (30 percent) say they grip their partner too hard, while 25 percent have ended up turning a film off because they were too freaked out. 21 percent have screamed so loud that their dog has jumped out of its skin.

We Love a Good Movie Scare!

Despite this, 66 percent thrive on being scared with one in three (32 percent) confessing they LOVE the jumpy bits in a movie. In contrast, a quarter (25 percent) hate them. Men are more likely to relish the scares (38 percent) compared to women (26 percent).

Almost half (47 percent) say that horror is their favourite genre, with women the biggest fans (85 percent compared to 82 percent for men).

Cardiff residents are the biggest horror fans in the UK, followed by London and Liverpool. Anyone wanting to avoid a scare should visit Cambridge, Bristol and Plymouth as they are the least likely to pop on a scary movie.

One in three (36 percent) like to snuggle down with their partner to watch a scary film, while a brave 18 percent prefer to watch them on their own.

Four in ten (38 percent) think there is nothing better than a take-away and a scary movie, with pizza (51 percent), Chinese (20 percent), burgers (15 percent) and curry (12 percent) are the top choices.

Pizza and Movie Time

A spokesperson for Papa Johns commented: “As pizza is revealed as the takeaway of choice to enjoy at home this Halloween (51%), we’re delighted to launch our limited-edition Jack-‘o-lantern pizza on the menu just in time for Halloween.”

Half (49 percent) love to give scares by jumping out in front of friends and family, however, one in five (15 percent) say their friends and family don’t find it funny.
