Maximising Your Productivity: The Best Ways to Work from Home

In today’s fast-paced world, working from home has become more prevalent than ever. Whether you’re a freelancer, remote employee, or simply looking to optimise your work-from-home setup, there are numerous strategies and technologies that can make your working day more efficient and enjoyable.

Here’s how you can enhance your remote working experience with the right tools and tips.

The Best Ways to Work from Home

1. Create a Dedicated Workspace

The first step to working effectively from home is setting up a dedicated workspace. This doesn’t have to be a separate room; it could be a corner of your living room or bedroom. The key is to make sure it’s a space you associate with productivity and focus. Invest in a comfortable chair and desk to prevent strain and improve your posture.

2. Invest in Quality Tech

Technology is a cornerstone of effective remote work. Here are some essential tools to consider:

High-Speed Internet: A reliable and fast internet connection is crucial. It will prevent frustrating interruptions and ensure smooth video calls and data transfers.

Ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse: A comfortable keyboard and mouse can reduce strain and improve typing speed and accuracy. Look for options with ergonomic designs to prevent repetitive strain injuries.

Noise-Cancelling Headphones: If you’re in a noisy environment, noise-cancelling headphones can help you stay focused and make virtual meetings clearer.

External Monitor: An external monitor can enhance your productivity by providing more screen real estate, which is particularly useful for multitasking.

3. Use Productivity Software

To stay organised and efficient, make use of productivity software:

Project Management Tools: Platforms like Trello, Asana, or Monday.com can help you track tasks and collaborate with team members.

Time-Tracking Apps: Tools such as Toggl or Clockify can help you monitor how much time you’re spending on different tasks and improve time management.

Cloud Storage: Services like Google Drive or Dropbox ensure your files are accessible from anywhere and can be shared easily with colleagues.

4. Maintain a Healthy Work-Life Balance

It’s easy to blur the lines between work and personal life when working from home. Establish clear boundaries by:

Setting Regular Work Hours: Stick to a schedule as if you were in an office. Start and end your workday at the same time each day.

Taking Breaks: Schedule short breaks to rest and recharge. This helps maintain focus and prevent burnout.

Creating a Transition Routine: Develop a routine that signals the start and end of your workday. This could be as simple as a walk or a cup of tea.

5. Leverage Exclusive Discounts

To enhance your remote working setup, consider upgrading your tech with our affiliate partner’s exclusive offer. We are excited to introduce a new, exclusive 10% discount at Mvolo! #BookReview: “A Day in the Life” (2 book series) by Mark Scott

I received the two-book series from “A Day in the Life” from the publisher and was intrigued to read these books. There is a third book coming soon and I now feel that I need to read it!

Read my review of “Drunk Log (A Day in the Life)” and “First Date (A Day in the Life)” to see if I recommend the books and where you can buy them.

My Review of “Drunk Log (A Day in the Life)” and “First Date (A Day in the Life)” by Mark Scott

I enjoyed reading these books, although I preferred the second book. The first book is understandably a little difficult to read due to the nature of the story, and perhaps that is why I didn’t enjoy it so much. There are some triggers for people who may have experienced similar traumatic events, but the story unfolds with enough sensitivity and humour that I feel it carries well. I connected with our protagonists Jack and Aria, and I can imagine myself joining them in the bars on the night of their dramatic and life changing activities. Their adventures in the hospital in “First Date” are very amusing, and something I can totally relate to having been a patient in the emergency department myself. The books made me feel sad, made me laugh, and finally made me feel happy, and I look forward to reading the third book in the series.

About the Books

“Drunk Log,” is a darkly humorous, deeply introspective exploration into one man’s attempt to find peace in the face of unrelenting pain. Told with a fast clip, the entire book covers about 8 hours and deftly avoids becoming an ominous dirge through relatable—and flawed—characters, unexpectedly funny situations, a budding romance and the wobbly balancing act of a man who must remain sober enough to write in his journal and finish what he started, but drunk enough to jump off a bridge.

“First Date (Book Two),” the continuation of “Drunk Log:” It was a dark and snowy night, and Jack and Aria should have been dead. Instead, they find themselves shivering on a riverbank, having survived a fall from the bridge into the currents and debris of the Ohio River. Lucky enough to slam into an anchored barge, they emerge from the water stunned, bruised and still somewhat drunk. Now they must work their way through the muck of the riverside to solid ground. Fully intent on ending it all just minutes before, Jack finds himself clinging to Aria for dear life—a life he feels just might be worth living after all.

Embracing Change: A New School Term and the Magic of Autumn

As the crisp breeze begins to carry the scent of fallen leaves and the days grow shorter, we find ourselves on the threshold of a new season. Today marks the first day of the autumn term at school, and for my family, it’s a particularly significant milestone.

Both of my girls are now at high school, a transition that signals not just a change in their educational journey, but also a shift in our daily routine and family dynamics. We are entering a new cycle of our lives, one filled with excitement, growth, and perhaps a touch of nostalgia.

Embracing Change: A New School Term and the Magic of Autumn

A New School Term and the Magic of Autumn

This time of year is always special to me. There’s something magical about autumn—how the earth prepares to rest after the bustling activity of summer, how the trees let go of their leaves in a beautiful display of surrender. It’s a season that invites us to reflect, to release what no longer serves us, and to prepare for the colder, quieter months ahead.

A Season of Change

The start of a new school term is often met with mixed emotions. For my girls, it’s an exciting time, full of anticipation and the thrill of new experiences. For me, it’s a bittersweet reminder of how quickly they’re growing up. And I know that for many, the prospect of a new term can bring a wave of anxiety. The unknown can be daunting, and change, even when it’s positive, can feel overwhelming.

But just as the trees don’t resist the changing of the seasons, we too can embrace this time of transition with grace and an open heart. Autumn teaches us that change is a natural part of life’s rhythm. It encourages us to trust the process, to find beauty in letting go, and to welcome the new opportunities that await us.

Autumn Affirmations

As we move forward into this new season, I want to share some autumn affirmations to help guide you through the changes and challenges that may come your way. These affirmations are a reminder that you are resilient, capable, and connected to the natural cycles of the earth.

1. I embrace change as a natural part of life’s journey.

Just as the leaves change colour and fall, I allow myself to evolve and grow with the seasons.

2. I release what no longer serves me, making space for new growth.

I let go of old habits, thoughts, and fears that no longer support my well-being.

3. I trust in the timing of my life.

I understand that everything happens in its own time, and I am exactly where I need to be.

4. I find beauty in the present moment.

I appreciate the simple pleasures of autumn—the crisp air, the vibrant colours, the warmth of a cosy sweater.

5. I am grounded and centred, even amidst change.

Like the roots of a tree, I remain strong and steady, no matter what the season brings.

6. I welcome new experiences with an open heart.

I am excited for the opportunities and adventures that this new season of life will bring.

Moving Forward

As we step into this new term, let’s do so with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Whether you’re a parent, a student, or someone simply navigating the changes that autumn brings, remember that you are not alone. We are all connected by the rhythms of nature, and there is comfort in knowing that change is a shared experience.

So, here’s to a magical autumn—a time for new beginnings, for letting go, and for embracing the unknown with open arms. May the season bring you peace, joy, and a deeper connection to the natural world around you.

Happy #WitchyWednesday, and blessed be!

#MummyMonday: Starting High School – a Poem for my Youngest Child

Hello, my friends, and happy #MummyMonday! Today I am feeling very emotional as I think about my youngest child embarking upon her high school journey.

How did this happen? How is my baby going to High School? I cannot comprehend where the time has gone, so instead I have written a poem for my daughter. This one’s for you, Georgina.

Starting High School – a Poem for my Youngest Child

The day has finally arrived

And I don’t know how to feel

We’ve done this once already

And yet it feels surreal.

You’ve always been my baby

My little limpet child

And now you will go on your own

Out into the wild.

Maybe I’m being dramatic

Or maybe I’m just being Mum

Your High School journey begins

And we don’t know what’s to come.

I know you’ll be happy at school

Just like your older sister

She’ll be there to watch you

And you will no longer miss her.

So now we move on with our lives

As you continue to learn and grow

My world is changing with you, my girls

But I’ll always be here, you know.

I’ve Come Over all Emotional

With lots of love to both my girls as you return to school this September.

Witchy Wednesday: Blending Business and Spirituality

Happy Witchy Wednesday, dear readers! Today, I find myself contemplating the delicate dance between spirituality and business. As a Reiki Master practitioner, paranormal fiction writer, and independent business owner, I often ponder how to align my spiritual practices with the mechanics of running a successful enterprise.

For a long time, I believed that talking about money or actively pursuing financial gain was somehow incompatible with a spiritual lifestyle. Weren’t we supposed to be guided purely by Spirit, with everything else falling into place as a result? This notion, though comforting in its simplicity, doesn’t quite capture the full picture.

Colourful image of paranormal author Catherine Green at a book signing event holding her new book “Bite of the Wolf (A Redcliffe Novel). Text reads, “Witchy Wednesday: Blending Business and Spirituality. Read today’s blog post at www.spookymrsgreen.com.”
Witchy Wednesday: Blending Business and Spirituality at SpookyMrsGreen.com

The Reality of Spirituality and Business

In truth, while spiritual guidance is an essential aspect of my life, the tangible world demands action. If we want to bring our dreams to fruition—whether that’s building a thriving business, writing a bestselling novel, or simply maintaining a harmonious home—we must be willing to put in the work. Spirituality and effort go hand in hand.

Running a business, especially from home, requires dedication, organization, and yes, the confidence to sell your products or services. There’s a misconception that spiritual individuals shouldn’t focus on money or marketing, but how can we share our gifts with the world if we shy away from promoting them? Our light deserves to shine, and in this world, that often means learning to balance our spiritual practices with practical business strategies.

Tips for Balancing Spirituality and Business

If you, like me, are navigating this balance, here are a few tips to help you blend your spiritual lifestyle with a business mindset:

1. Honour Your Intuition: Your spiritual intuition is a powerful tool in business. Listen to that inner voice when making decisions, whether it’s choosing a new project or deciding how to market your offerings. Trust that Spirit will guide you, but don’t forget to back that guidance with research and strategy.

2. Set Clear Intentions: Just as you might set intentions in your spiritual practices, do the same for your business. Define your goals clearly—whether it’s the number of clients you want to attract or the sales targets you aim to hit. Then, align your actions with these intentions.

3. Create Rituals for Success: Infuse your business routine with rituals that keep you grounded and focused. This could be a morning meditation, lighting a candle before you start your workday, or practicing gratitude for every sale or new client. These small acts can help maintain your spiritual connection while you navigate the business world.

4. Embrace Continuous Learning: Spiritual growth is a lifelong journey, and so is business growth. Consider expanding your knowledge by exploring online courses that cater to both your spiritual and business needs. Whether it’s learning about mindfulness, marketing, or PR, investing in your education is an investment in your business’s future.

5. Celebrate Your Wins: Don’t shy away from celebrating your successes—whether spiritual or financial. Recognizing your achievements reinforces a positive mindset and reminds you that it’s okay to prosper while remaining spiritually grounded.

Explore Further Education

If you’re feeling inspired to deepen your knowledge, I recommend checking out the Centre of Excellence, an eLearning platform that offers a wide range of courses tailored to both spiritual growth and business acumen. From Yoga and Mindfulness to Marketing and PR, there’s something for everyone looking to blend these worlds harmoniously. Explore the courses here.

Final Thoughts

Balancing spirituality and business doesn’t have to be a struggle. By embracing both aspects and finding ways to integrate them into your daily life, you can create a thriving, fulfilling career that resonates with your soul’s purpose. Remember, it’s okay to be guided by Spirit while also being savvy in business—after all, you are a powerful creator in both realms.

Until next time, blessed be!

#FreeforallFriday: Back in Action at Books on the Beach

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Books on the Beach book signing event in Blackpool, marking my first public appearance in five years. It felt like coming full circle, as I had the privilege of attending the inaugural event when Books on the Beach first launched in 2019.

Oh, how I’ve missed the buzz of being surrounded by fellow indie authors and the passionate reader community! The event was everything I hoped for—busy, exciting, and absolutely fun.

Back in Action at Books on the Beach

I want to extend a huge thank you to the organisers for all their hard work in putting together such a fantastic event. Your dedication to making this happen is truly appreciated, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the future.

This time around, I had two special assistants with me: my daughters. They joined me at my author table and added their own sparkle to the event. They had a blast helping out, and we made some wonderful memories together. We even indulged in some book lovers’ merchandise and added a few new books to our ever-growing collection. It was a day filled with laughter, bonding, and a rekindling of my love for public author events.

The experience has reignited my passion

The experience has reignited my passion, and I’m thrilled to announce that I’m getting back out there. My next stop is PARACON Northwich in September, where I’ll be bringing the spooky vibes once again. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, check out my brand-new book, Bite of the Wolf (A Redcliffe Novel).

Thank you all for your continued support and stay spooky!

Until next time,
