End to End Cycle Ride: John O’Groats and we are Finished!

Well, my father-in-law and his friends successfully completed the End to End cycle ride from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. They cycled approximately 1015 miles up the length of England and Scotland, and the journey took them 14 days.

End to End Cycle Ride: John O’Groats and we are Finished!

I travelled up to the Scottish Highlands with my husband, daughter and mother-in-law to meet the team as they arrived. Our drive took around 11 hours (including rest stops) from Cheshire to Sutherland, and then a further 2 hours the next day taking us to John O’Groats. That alone was hard work, so I cannot imagine how tough it was on a bike, carrying your own luggage, and battling the extremes of weather that the men experienced.

One thing I can say, the long journey was worth it! We discovered the hidden treasures of Northern Scotland, including some fabulous sandy beaches and beautiful bright blue coves. Fortunately for us the sun came out for the weekend, the wind was mild, and we enjoyed some time wandering around the town of Thurso, along with some stops during our drive to take photos of the places we travelled through.

Lovely photos and a brilliant achievement. (I like your hair too).

  3. Glad he did it! It’s one of those thing that sound mad but I kind of want to add it to me ‘bucket’ list…Scotland the country forever in my heart! I love it SO much. I’m glad you had a great time with your family 🙂

    • Thanks! I have decided I want to do the challenge in a camper van, how cool would that be? We saw some people at John O’Groats that had done it on motorbikes and Dan liked that idea.

Brilliant! Love the photos and wish I could be there. Loved that in. As you say, so totally vintage. I think England and Scotland have to be lovely to live in. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
