Hello, spooky friends, and happy #MummyMonday! Today I want to discuss what happened when I allowed my teenage daughter to read one of my adult novels. It’s a steamy, Gothic, Victorian vampire romance and I wasn’t ready to expose her to that. She told me that she would only read the book when I went to work, and I had no choice in the matter.
Read my blog post to see what she thought of my book and how I responded to her learning what really goes on inside her mother’s mind.
My Teenage Daughter Loves My Victorian Vampire Romance!
As a mother and an author, I always try to balance my personal and professional life. So, when my teenage daughter recently asked to read my Victorian vampire romance novel, “The Darkness of Love”, I hesitated at first due to the mature content. It’s a steamy, Gothic love story filled with lust, power, and intrigue. Naturally, I wasn’t sure if she was quite ready for that! But like most teenagers, she assured me that she’s “heard it all” from her school friends. I was curious but also cautious as she entered Year 9—how much do they know at that age? Well, it turns out I was underestimating her!
She devoured the book and loved it. To my surprise, she even went on to create her own version of Stockton Manor (the hauntingly grand estate featured in the novel) on Roblox. I was blown away by her creativity! It’s incredible to see how inspired she was by the world I’ve built, and it warmed my heart to see her diving into it in her own unique way.
My Daughters Support my Author Journey
But the best part? She’s now on a mission to help me sell “The Darkness of Love” to the world! She’s determined, full of energy, and so supportive of my work. It’s a special feeling to see my daughters not only appreciate what I do but also want to be a part of it. They’ve always been a huge part of my life, and now they’re becoming a part of my author journey too. Watching my teenager express such pride and enthusiasm for my books makes me feel even more confident as I continue building my author brand.
It’s a reminder that, even as they grow older and develop their own interests, our children will surprise us with how much they’re paying attention, how much they understand, and how deeply they connect with the things that matter to us. I’m so grateful to have their support as I keep sharing my paranormal novels with the world.
