The #atozchallenge continues and today we have a little more time to explore the Redcliffe alpha wolf, Detective Danny Mason. He is a powerful, intense, and passionate man, and I admit he has stolen my heart rather more than I originally intended when I first wrote Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel). Tall, muscular, with short black hair and bright blue eyes, Danny has a hypnotic charm that is hard to resist.

An identical twin, Danny Mason seems to stumble from one drama to another. He was bitten by a werewolf during the First World War, when at the age of 35, he and Jack were soldiers marching through France and Switzerland. It was Jack’s fault that the men ended up in this predicament. Jack fell in love with a local woman who was a vampire, and she set up a trap intending for a werewolf to kill Danny. It didn’t work, and the brothers spent some time living wild before they were reunited with the British army.

The men found themselves working for the British authorities, eventually training as police officers and then detectives, and now work for a hidden department that polices supernatural crime. On moving to Redcliffe, circumstances transpired in which Danny killed the pack leader, therefore promoting himself to the position of alpha. In the process he met local surfer Simon Bunce, who later became his lieutenant and casual lover, along with local nurse Sally Frost.

Ah yes, an interesting quirk about Danny Mason is his sexual preferences! He considers himself heterosexual, but he is clearly in love with Simon Bunce, although he will never admit it publicly. For one thing, the revelation could damage his reputation as alpha wolf. The wolves are creatures of tradition, and they expect the pack to be led by a male and female who will guide and nurture the younger and weaker wolves as required.

Danny’s attentions were further distracted when he met his brother’s new girlfriend, Jessica Stone. They developed a tumultuous relationship, complicated further when Jessica began to discover her own witchcraft secrets and caused chaos with the Redcliffe wolves.
