#AtoZChallenge Day 15: Occult

The Occult is a subject that I have a personal interest in. I have always been intrigued by stories of witches and ghosts, so it was only a natural progression when I began to explore vampires and werewolves as I grew older.

It is no surprise that paranormal romance became my genre of choice as a writer. I am fascinated by magic and mystery, and the romance that surrounds it, particularly in the Gothic tradition. Therefore it had to find a place in my Redcliffe novels series.

Occult

Occult has always been something of a taboo word in my social and cultural circles. The word itself is harmless. It simply means ‘hidden’ or ‘disguised.’ There are many historical reasons why occult became the label given to the study, practise and following of activities including witchcraft, but right now I will explain it in relation to the Redcliffe novels.

In the first book, “Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel),” our heroine Jessica Stone begins by explaining that she is an orphan and has never allowed herself to love other people, apart from her best friend Elizabeth. Jessica’s parents died in a car accident when she was six years old, and no surviving family members came forward to claim her. She lived a lonely childhood with foster parents, and vowed never to be reliant on other people, certainly not in a romantic or emotional capacity.

When Jessica met Jack Mason she could not ignore the bond between them. She later learns that they are soul mates, but she has a lot to reveal about her own nature as we progress into book 2, “Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel)” and continue the adventures in book 3 “Love Redeems (A Redcliffe Novel).” I don’t want to reveal too much and spoil the surprise, but Jessica is not as human as she might have previously thought. It takes the power of vampires and werewolves to unlock Jessica’s hidden abilities and reveal her true nature.

Now I invite you to check out my fellow #atozchallenge bloggers. You will find some weird and wonderful articles, and we can all make new friends. See you tomorrow for the next letter in our #atozchallenge.

Hello! Made it round to your blog today. I’ve always been interested in the occult; from growing up living in haunted houses, to freaking myself out with my own horror writing!
Good luck with the rest of the A-Z.
