Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush! Poll Reveals the Most Commonly Forgotten Items when Packing for a Trip

New research has revealed that we’re a forgetful bunch with one in ten ALWAYS failing to remember their toothbrush when packing for a break.

However, the humble RAZOR is the most forgotten item, with 18 percent never remembering to pack one, followed by the phone charger (17 percent), and sunglasses (14 percent).

Despite the UK’s changeable weather, one in ten (10 percent) always forget their wellies when going on a staycation, while 22 percent said they often regret not bringing a brolly.

Eight percent have gone on holiday without a hairbrush, tweezers, or even any PJs to sleep in.
As a result, an exasperated 10 percent say they always end up forking out for new items of clothing, toiletries and cosmetics on holiday, because they forgot to pack essential items, according to the poll of 2,000 Brits, commissioned by holidaycottages.co.uk.

Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush!

The cost of forgotten essentials can quickly add up.  In fact, the holiday letting agency estimates that to replace everything listed in its top 10 ‘most forgotten items’, this could easily cost anything between £80 and £100 – money that could have been better spent on making memories while away with friends or family.

Yet despite forgetting the basics, 20 percent of Brits insist on ALWAYS taking a sewing kit, while 12 percent never go on holiday without being armed with bug spray.

A keen 18 percent of Brits pack their bags for a trip TWO WEEKS before leaving, while most (23 percent) leave it until a week before.  Meanwhile, 58 percent of us say we repack our bags at least once before going away – highlighting some uncertainty over what to take.

What to Pack for a Minibreak

On average, we pack SIX outfits for a long weekend or minibreak in the UK.  Almost half (40 percent) fail to put their things away once they’ve reached their accommodation, admitting to living out of their luggage for the entirety of the trip.

The most unused items Brits pack emerged as work-out gear (only seven percent who take their gym kit actually hit the gym), board games (seven percent) and kids’ homework (four percent).

A spokesperson for holidaycottages.co.uk, which commissioned the poll, commented:

“Whether going for a long weekend or a week away, one thing’s for sure – this time of year is a fantastic time to enjoy an off-season getaway in the UK.  But with the UK’s traditional seasons shifting, we’re seeing more unseasonal weather throughout the year which can make packing for a staycation more challenging.

“It seems that we’re so busy working out what to bring to cover all bases that some of us are forgetting the essentials and, of course, that can add on unnecessary expense once you’ve reached your destination. With this in mind, we’ve created a handy checklist of what to pack on a UK break to help minimise wastage and encourage people to not blow the budget on replacement items once they’re away.

“With so many fantastic off-peak deals available, now’s the perfect time to hunker down in a cosy cottage with friends or family to make the most of the great British countryside or enjoy sight-seeing at popular destinations without the crowds. We therefore hope this packing checklist will help people enjoy a great UK break no matter the weather.”

Top Ten Forgotten Items when Packing for a Mini Break

1. Razor – 18 percent

2. Phone charger – 17 percent

3. Sunglasses – 14 percent

4. Wellies – 10 percent

5. Shampoo – 9 percent

6. Toothbrush – 9 percent

7. Deodorant – 8 percent

8. Tweezers – 8 percent

9. Hairbrush – 8 percent

10. PJs – 7 percent

For those unsure where to begin, this handy checklist from holidaycottages.co.uk gives ideas for what to pack on a UK break so guests can concentrate on enjoying their staycation in true style.

Rover.com Announces Trendiest Dog Names of 2023

  • Pink is revealed to be the top trending dog name of 2023, based on data from millions of user-submitted pet names on Rover.com
  • Barbie mania – Following the success of Greta Gerwig’s movie, Barbie was trending in the top 3 names (+1079%). And Ken just wasn’t ‘Kenough’ to steal Barbie’s limelight, trending +79% in comparison
  • Have we run out of ideas or have Brits just gone ‘barking mad’?! Freddo (+1179%), Hovis (+1079%), and Deefer (+1079%) emerge as break out names this year
  • The annual report also reflects themes from 2023 including pop culture, sport, and royalty, showing where Brits take inspiration from when naming their dogs

Rover.com, the world’s largest online marketplace for loving pet care, has revealed the UK’s top dog names for 2023. And Barbie mania was officially the main driving force behind naming trends this year, inspiring the trendiest name of the year: Pink.

While Ken was on the up from last year (+79%), he just wasn’t ‘Kenough’ to outshine Barbie, which not only made the top 3 list of trending names but increased by a whopping 1079% in comparison. We must all be living in a Barbie world as popular characters Dolly, Sasha, and Alan were all ‘fashionable’ this year too.

Top 10 Trending Dog Names for British Pups in 2023

Pink (+1479%)

Freddo (+1179%)

Barbie (+1079%)

Bolo (+1079%)

Chas (+1079%)

Deefer (+1079%)

Hovis (+1079%)

Jean (+1079%)

Karl (+1079%)

Lotta (+1079%)

Brits have gone Barking Mad!

The question of whether Brits are simply getting more creative when it comes to naming their dog, or if they’re just barking mad is apparent with the likes of Freddo (+1179%), Hovis (+1079%), Lotta (+1079%), and Deefer (+1079%) emerging in this year’s top ten trending names. However, only 29% claimed they chose their dog’s name at random, suggesting for the majority, there is in fact ‘method in the madness’.

But with names like Lotta and Deefer sounding more like a child’s first word than a dog’s name, it’s unsurprising that more than a quarter (28%) admitted to letting their children choose the family dog’s name – explaining some of the more unusual entries this year.

And speaking of passing something on to your kids, be it fame or a name, 8% of pet parents have actually named their pups after themselves, even adding ‘junior’ to the end. Infused with nostalgia, some other examples even included naming their dog after their old street name.

Honourable mentions this year include, Albus Dumblepaws, Bark-A-Lot, Billy Boo Boo, Chugsley Chugglesworth, and King Arthur Slobbergob.

Having a Re-Pink

But forget ‘pink to make the boys wink’, as it appears Britons are starting to break away from gender confinements when it comes to naming their pooches. Research from Rover revealed that over half (51%) of pet parents have a pup with a gender-neutral name, with a further 70% revealing they chose their pooches’ name before they even knew the gender of their dog. The favourites seemed to be Taylor, River, and Ali as they all rose through the ranks this year, with Charlie and Riley emerging as the most popular in volume.

Grrr-irl Power

Despite narrowly missing out in the World Cup final to Spain, the Lionesses still have the nation’s backing – perhaps even more so than the men this year. National treasures Jill (Scott), (Alessia) Russo, and Rachel (Daly) all topped the trending list of names from the team, trending upwards by a whopping +579%, +191%, and +129% respectively.

And following Man City’s incredible treble triumph in the summer, John (Stones) (+106%), and Kevin (De Bruyne) (+80%) were indeed both up, although not nearly as high as the girls, with other Man City stars Jack (Grealish) and Phil (Foden) trending down. With the Lionesses therefore in the lead, it seems it’s all to play for at the men’s Euros next summer to turn this score around in 2024.

Pup Culture

It was the year of the ‘nepo baby’, with the world outing young, baby-faced celebs for using their famous families to climb the social ladder. Despite their Howl-lywood roots being exposed, they continue to be a source of inspiration not just for style, but for our pet names too. Maya (Hawke), Miley (Cyrus), and Gigi (Hadid) were among the most popular, along with Kaia (Gerber) – up by a whopping +112%. Bending it like Beckham, Brooklyn was also trending upwards (+93%) – and is predicted to soar through the ranks even more next year following his family’s wildly popular ‘Beckham’ documentary.

With Taylor Swift’s sell-out global tour ‘The Eras’, it’s no surprise she was trending up by +123%, along with Swift (+29%). Taylor’s love life not only inspires her songs, but pet parents too, with new beau Travis predicted to rocket in 2024 thanks to Taylor putting him on the map.

Spill the Royal-Tea

It’s been an incredibly momentous few years for the royals. While it was bad news last year for the King as Charles significantly declined, it seems there’s been a swift turnaround following his Coronation earlier this year, with his name now trending up +90%. There’s still work to do when it comes to Camilla as the name was trending down (-21%) this year, suggesting the nation is taking its time to warm up to our own new Queen.

The release of Harry’s controversial memoir, ‘Spare’, got the whole country talking, with people choosing a side between Harry and the rest of the Royal family. With Meghan frequently referring to Harry as ‘H’ throughout the show which seemed to irk many, it’s of little surprise that ‘H’ (-62%) is trending downwards, and Meghan too, down by a significant 117%.

AI’ Need Help – 2024 Predictions

With AI (Artificial Intelligence) already being a huge talking point in today’s society, Rover predicts that we’ll see a huge rise in pet parents using AI to help them name their dog in 2024.

And speaking of a futuristic society, thanks to the viral ‘Roman Empire’ trend that got us all talking, (and offering a rather random insight into the mind of men), Rover foresees a surge of ‘Roman Empire inspired names’ in 2024, such as Roman, Julius and Ceasar.

Set to take place in the French capital, the 2024 Olympics are less than a year away, with names such as Paris, Olympus, Goldie expected to ‘high-jump’ their way through the ranks.

And it’s the return of our own beloved panda warrior, as Kung Fu Panda 4 makes its return to the big screen after eight years, meaning Po, Panda, and Shifu could climb their way up the tables.

Adem Fehmi, Rover’s canine behaviourist, comments:

“Finding the perfect name for your pooch can sometimes be a difficult task, especially if a name doesn’t immediately spring to mind – or when you’re set on naming them something unique to the rest. And whilst it’s wonderful to see pet parents getting creative and thinking outside the box when it comes to naming their pup, remember, you’re the one that has to be comfortable shouting this across the park! So, whilst I encourage pet parents to have fun with naming their pups when they first get them, think about some potential repercussions if they are totally out of the blue.”

For more advice on naming your dog, follow Adem’s tips:

1. A name is for life, not for Christmas! To help determine your dog’s name, make a list of names you love, and really take your time to whittle these down to the one you feel suits your dog best, there’s no need to rush into a name. It can be very useful to observe your dog, their temperament, quirks, and personality as a whole. That being said, avoid ‘trying out’ different names on your pooch while you make your decision. Although naturally you will want to find the ‘right name’, you don’t want to confuse your new pup during this process.

2. Do your leash-search: If you know that you are likely to frequent certain places with your dog, such as your local park, then it can be a good idea to visit these areas before you decide on your dog’s name. Listen carefully to the names being used and called, and if possible, avoid duplicating these names. It is not the end of the world if there ends up being two or three ‘Milos’ called at the same time, but this can certainly make it harder to get your dog’s attention – especially if they are off lead.

3. Pitch paw-fect! Consider choosing a name that has a vowel or vowel sounding consonant at the end, such as Luna or Poppy. This means you’ll be more likely to elongate the vowel sounds and change your pitch of voice for the second syllable, which is important when calling your pooches’ name to get their attention. This will help your dog to hear their name being called, and often these sounds sound more positive and inviting to your dog, encouraging them to respond accordingly.

4. Avoid confurr-sion. It’s best to choose a name that cannot be confused with a command word, or other words you might frequently use when with your dog. Try to steer away from names like such as Kay as this could be confused with ‘stay’, or Teddy that sounds like ‘ready’. Similarly, opting for a short, snappy name not only makes it easier for your dog to learn their name, but to also hear clearly when they’re called.

5. Make sure it’s the whole family’s ‘pup of tea’. You’ll need to mutually agree on your family pup’s name, as you want consistency when teaching commands and calling for your dog’s attention. If other members of the family or carers of your dog start using an alternative name because they don’t like the one chosen, then this could pose a problem.

Embracing the Winter Solstice: Infusing Pagan Spirit into Christmas Celebrations

Welcome to another enchanting #WitchyWednesday on SpookyMrsGreen.com! As winter’s chill settles in and the days grow shorter, we find ourselves approaching the mystical Winter Solstice. This ancient celebration marks the longest night and the return of the sun, inviting us to connect with nature, honour the changing seasons, and infuse our lives with a touch of pagan magic.

Today, let’s explore how we can weave pagan values into the tapestry of commercialized Christmas celebrations, creating a harmonious blend of old and new traditions.

#WitchyWednesday Winter Solstice Blessings Merry Yule from SpookyMrsGreen.com mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
#WitchyWednesday Winter Solstice Blessings

Understanding the Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice, also known as Yule in pagan traditions, falls around December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a time when the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky, and we experience the longest night of the year. Pagans and Wiccans celebrate this turning point, welcoming the gradual return of the sun and the promise of brighter days ahead.

Incorporating Pagan Values into Christmas

1. Nature-inspired Decorations:

Embrace the natural world by adorning your home with evergreen branches, pinecones, and holly. These symbols of life and vitality connect us to the earth’s cycles and mirror the greenery associated with pagan rituals. Create a festive atmosphere by crafting handmade ornaments or wreaths using materials sourced from nature.

2. Candle Magic:

Illuminate your space with the warm glow of candles. In paganism, candles represent the return of the sun’s light. Incorporate different colours with specific meanings, such as green for growth, red for strength, and gold for the sun’s rebirth. Light candles during your holiday gatherings to infuse the atmosphere with magical energy.

3. Feasting and Sharing:

The Winter Solstice is a time for feasting and revelry. Embrace the spirit of giving and sharing by hosting a festive gathering with loved ones. Prepare a feast using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and encourage a communal atmosphere reminiscent of ancient pagan celebrations.

4. Sacred Rituals:

Take a moment to honour the solstice with a simple ritual. Whether it’s a meditation, a prayer, or a nature walk, connect with the energy of the season. Consider setting intentions for the coming year, expressing gratitude, and releasing what no longer serves you.

5. Mindful Gift-Giving:

Reimagine gift-giving by focusing on thoughtful, handmade, or ethically sourced presents. Infuse your gifts with intention and meaning, acknowledging the deeper connections we share with one another. Consider giving gifts that promote sustainability, mindfulness, and well-being.

Celebrate a Rich Tapestry of Ancient Traditions

As we navigate the sea of twinkling lights and festive cheer, let’s not forget the rich tapestry of ancient traditions woven into the fabric of the Winter Solstice. Embracing pagan values during the holiday season allows us to honour the cycles of nature, connect with our roots, and foster a sense of harmony in our modern celebrations. This #WitchyWednesday, let the magic of Yule inspire a Christmas season filled with intention, gratitude, and the timeless enchantment of the solstice.

Preparing your home for Winter weather: Tips from the Experts

Brits are no strangers to bad weather; however, with storms already in the forecast and colder weather around the corner, it’s a good idea to start preparing.

To help minimise potential damage to your property while also maximising your safety, SimpliSafe home security has released some tips so you can be as protected as can be!

M and S 12 Days of Christmas Deals. Enjoy a festive offer or gift every day until 12 December. Plus, open all 12 doors for the chance to win a magical M&S Christmas! M&S affiliated with SpookyMrsGreen.com mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
M&S 12 Days of Christmas Deals. Enjoy a festive offer or gift every day until 12 December. Plus, open all 12 doors for the chance to win a magical M&S Christmas!

Check the condition of your roof

When a storm hits, your roof can be one of the first areas of your property to show signs of damage. Loose or missing roof tiles could quickly lead to leaks and or structural problems.

If you think your loft or other areas of your home might be at risk of leaks due to a storm, it’s a good idea to invest in a water sensor. A water sensor alerts you as soon as it comes into contact with water, so you have time to fix the damage before it turns into a bigger issue.

Inspect your drains and gutters

While you’re looking around your roof, checking the state of your gutters is also an important bit of prep work. If your gutters are full of leaf litter and other debris, it’s a sign you need a clean-out before the weather gets worse. A full gutter that becomes waterlogged can be extremely heavy, and when strong winds come into play, it could come down and cause damage to the brickwork it’s secured to, as well as anything underneath it. It may also lead to a clog for the drains below them, and the best way to combat heavy rain is for it to drain away!

Secure your valuables

If you’re in an area prone to flooding and want to avoid as much damage as possible to your possessions, try not to place any on the ground. High shelves and the top of wardrobes could be great places to store items that you don’t want to risk getting wet, or alternatively, store them all upstairs until the storm passes.

You’ll also want to ensure that all doors and windows are not just closed but securely locked to prevent being blown open in very strong winds, which may cause damage. Having an entry sensor on your windows and doors will alert you if one is to come open.

Keeping the right temperature

Certain items in your home may need to be kept at a certain temperature to ensure their longevity, such as plants or paintings. As well as monitoring your heating, a temperature sensor is a helpful tool to keep an eye on any sudden heat changes so you can take action quickly if needed.

What Brits have Completely Forgotten from School

New research suggests as many as 44 percent of British parents confess, they are CLUELESS when it comes to helping with secondary school homework, while a third (34 percent) cannot even help their primary school kids.

In fact, half of parents (50 percent) insist they would not pass their school exams if they had to take them again.

Trigonometry (52 percent), Pythagoras theorem (46 percent), algebra (46 percent), calculating Pi (39 percent) and the periodic table (35 percent) all leave parents scratching their heads, according to the survey.

While 15 percent have forgotten most of the flags of the world, and 21 percent admit they no longer know the difference between a noun, a verb and an adjective.
Correct use of punctuation (15 percent), how to ask for directions in French (31 percent) and the beginning and end dates of World War I and World War II, leave almost one in five (19 percent) flummoxed.

What Brits have Completely Forgotten from School

On average, British parents spend an average of four hours attempting to help their children do their homework a week, with 73 percent ending up arguing over homework.

Yet, almost nine in ten (87 percent) say that schoolwork has become much more challenging than the work they had to complete in school, with a further 77 percent believing their children work much harder than they did at the same age.

Maths (57 percent) is the subject that British parents struggle the most with, according to the study, commissioned by leading online tuition business MyTutor.

Florence Milner, UK Schools General Manager at MyTutor said: “Even though most parents devote a significant amount of time weekly to helping their children with schoolwork, it’s unsurprising that many find the task daunting. Few would claim to be expert in every subject, many will have left formal education years before and the vast majority, according to our survey, acknowledge that the curriculum is much more challenging now than when they were in school. Given that, it’s understandable that so many parents are actively seeking additional tuition to support their children.”

Considering an Out of School Tutor

A quarter of parents (27 percent) have considered getting an out of school tutor to help their child with their work but for 60 percent the cost of hiring someone is just too expensive, so much so that they would prefer the school to help instead (25 percent).

One in five (19 percent) have contacted their child’s school to ask for additional help while 39 percent say they don’t get enough support from their child’s school.

A quarter (23 percent) admit they are unaware if the school even offers any extra support. A sixth (15 percent) don’t think the school has time to help with schoolwork.

“All the evidence shows that small-group tutoring can have a significant, positive impact on a child’s academic progress”, added Ms Milner. “Parents increasingly expect schools to facilitate this – not only because they may lack the resources to do it themselves but also because they appreciate that schools are best-placed to ensure that the tuition is targeted and aligns with the curriculum delivered by the school.

“The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) [the Department for Education’s project to supports schools by providing funding to spend on academic support delivered by trained and experienced tutors and mentors] is tackling the attainment gap but a lack of funding is threatening its long-term future, and arrangements for next year are still to be confirmed.”

Growing Up Confident: Navigating the Deodorant Dilemma for Your Teenage Daughter

Welcome back to #MummyMonday on SpookyMrsGreen.com! As our little girls grow up and enter the tumultuous teenage years, there’s a lot for us mums to consider. One question that often arises is, “When should my daughters start using deodorant?”

It’s a significant step in their self-care routine and can contribute to boosting their confidence as they navigate the challenges of high school.

In this post, we’ll explore when it’s appropriate to introduce deodorant into your daughter’s routine and offer some tips for making the transition smooth.

Understanding the Changes

As our daughters approach their teenage years, their bodies undergo a myriad of changes, including hormonal shifts that lead to increased sweat production and body odour. While these changes are entirely natural, they can sometimes catch both parents and teenagers off guard. It’s crucial to approach these changes with openness and support.

The Right Time

The question of when to start using deodorant doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. It’s primarily dependent on your daughter’s individual needs and development. On average, girls may begin to experience these changes between the ages of 9 and 16, with some starting earlier or later. Keep an eye out for signs such as body odour or increased sweating and initiate a gentle conversation about personal hygiene.

Having “The Talk”

Approaching the topic of personal hygiene can be sensitive, but it’s essential to maintain open communication with your daughter. Emphasize that these changes are entirely normal and part of growing up. Share your own experiences, if you feel comfortable, to create a supportive atmosphere. Encourage her to embrace her unique journey and assure her that using deodorant is a standard practice for many teenagers.

Choosing the Right Product

When selecting a deodorant for your daughter, consider her skin sensitivity and personal preferences. Opt for a gentle, hypoallergenic formula to minimize the risk of irritation. Roll-on, stick, or spray – the choices are numerous. Involve her in the decision-making process to empower her with a sense of control over her self-care routine.

Establishing a Routine

Once the decision is made to introduce deodorant, help your daughter establish a daily routine. Encourage her to apply it after bathing or showering, stressing the importance of consistency. A regular self-care routine not only promotes good hygiene but also boosts confidence as she takes charge of her well-being.

Support their Self-Care Routine

As our daughters journey through the teenage years, supporting them in their self-care routine is crucial. Introducing deodorant is a significant step in this process, signalling their transition into adolescence. By maintaining open communication, choosing the right products, and encouraging a positive routine, you’re not only helping them navigate the physical changes but also boosting their confidence as they embark on the adventure of high school. Here’s to empowering our daughters and fostering their self-esteem on this exciting journey!

A Green Christmas: Preparing your Garden for December and Beyond

As November draws to a close and the festive period begins, there’s a new batch of gardening tasks that need to be done to make sure that your garden is as healthy as it can be for the next growing season.

So that you don’t miss anything off your list, the team at The Expert Gate Company have shared some of their tips to keep in mind!

A good clean-up

One of the first tasks you’ll need to do before anything else is getting your garden into tip top shape to make every other task much easier! Leaf litter and other organic debris should be gathered and put into your compost bin, along with any plants that haven’t lasted through the autumn – as long as they didn’t succumb to any diseases.

This is also a good time to clean down patios and brickwork, ideally with a pressure washer if you have one but there’s nothing wrong with soapy water and some elbow grease. Doing this later on when the weather is colder can lead to ice, which obviously poses a health hazard, so it’s a job better done sooner rather than later. Patios and pathways that are left uncleaned for too long can accumulate dirt and moss that can make them much easier to slip on, so get them cleaned not only to have them looking fresher but for your own safety as well.

Pulling up and cutting back

Now that you’ve got a tidy garden and can see what you’re working with, you can start on your groundwork. Any perennials you have planted will need cutting back to the soil line, allowing the base of the plant to remain dormant until spring returns again while you add your cuttings to your compost bin. Any weeds will need to be pulled up by the roots, ensuring that no part of the plants are left in the soil. With most of your trees and shrubs also being bare, or at least devoid of most of their leaves, this can also be a great time to get pruning to keep them in shape. Not only does this promote healthy growth early next year, but also means that they’ll look their best!

Be ready for the weather

British weather isn’t exactly known for being the most pleasant, and the colder months only make this more apparent. If you can store your outdoor furniture inside, for example in a garage or shed, you’ll absolutely want to, as the damp conditions are ideal for promoting mould, rust, and all-round damage to your tables and chairs. If you don’t have anywhere to store them, invest in a good waterproof covering that you can securely fasten to try and keep the elements out as best you can.

It’s also worth picking up some horticultural fleeces for when colder weather and frost is forecast to minimise the damage done to your soil and the plants within. Late November is also a great time to put some mulch down on your beds, trapping in the last of the heat and moisture to keep your soil as healthy as possible and giving you less trouble – and work – when the weather warms back up!

A Pagan’s Perspective on Christmas: Embracing Light, Family, and Nature

Welcome, dear readers, to SpookyMrsGreen.com! Today, let’s delve into the enchanting world of Christmas from the perspective of a pagan soul.

While many associate Christmas with Christian traditions, the festive season holds a special place in the hearts of pagans who, like me, find joy in celebrating the season in a non-traditional, spiritually diverse way.

Icy Pink Flowers in Winter at SpookyMrsGreen.com mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
Icy Pink Flowers in Winter

My Journey into Paganism

Born into a Church of England Christian family, my spiritual journey took a different turn as I embraced paganism. This choice wasn’t a rejection of values instilled in me during my upbringing but rather an exploration of spirituality that aligns with my beliefs in freedom of choice, respect for Mother Earth, and an appreciation for the unseen forces that weave through our lives.

Non-traditional Celebrations

One of the most beautiful aspects of paganism is its inclusivity and adaptability. As a pagan, I chose a non-traditional marriage ceremony void of religious influence, emphasizing the personal connection between my partner and me. Similarly, I’ve chosen to raise my children without indoctrination into any specific faith, allowing them the freedom to explore and find their own spiritual paths.

Embracing the Cycle of Life

At the core of pagan beliefs is a deep connection to the natural world and an appreciation for the cyclical nature of life. Christmas, for pagans, becomes a celebration of the winter solstice—a time when the days are shortest, and the night is longest. It’s a symbolic reminder that light will return, and the cycle of life continues. The festive season, with its vibrant lights and decorations, becomes a way to brighten up the dark nights and welcome the returning light.

Respecting Mother Earth

Paganism emphasizes the importance of living in harmony with the Earth. As we celebrate Christmas, pagans often incorporate eco-friendly practices into their festivities. From sustainable decorations to mindful gift-giving, there’s a conscious effort to minimize the environmental impact and show gratitude to Mother Earth.

Family and Festivities

While the religious aspects of Christmas may not resonate with pagans, the essence of togetherness, love, and joy certainly does. The festive season becomes an opportunity to gather with family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and creating cherished memories. Pagan celebrations often include rituals that honour the interconnectedness of family and community.

Paganism and Christmas

In the tapestry of diverse beliefs and traditions, paganism adds a unique thread to the rich fabric of Christmas celebrations. As a pagan, I find beauty in the lights that pierce through the winter darkness, the warmth of family, and the connection to the natural world. Christmas, for me, is a time to embrace the festive spirit while staying true to my values of freedom, respect for Mother Earth, and an appreciation for the unseen forces that guide our journey through life. May your festive season be filled with light, love, and the magic of the unseen!
