#FreeforallFriday: Celebrating the End of Pride Month

Hello, lovely readers!

Welcome to another #FreeforallFriday on SpookyMrsGreen.com, where anything goes at the end of the working week. As June comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the vibrant and inspiring Pride Month we’ve had.

This month is always a special time to honour and celebrate our LGBT+ family members, friends, and colleagues, as well as the broader community.

Celebrating the End of Pride Month

In our household, Pride Month has taken on an even more special significance this year. My younger daughter has developed a keen interest in the celebrations and the history behind them. It’s been heartwarming to watch her enthusiasm grow as we learned together about the remarkable contributions and stories of people within the Pride community.

One of our favourite activities this month has been watching some incredibly insightful and entertaining TV shows about famous LGBT+ individuals. We’ve delved into the lives of trailblazers who have made significant impacts on society, learning about their struggles, triumphs, and the lasting legacies they’ve created. These stories have sparked meaningful conversations at our dinner table, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich diversity that makes up our world.

Special Pride Month promo code

As we wrap up Pride Month, I want to remind everyone about a special promotional offer from my affiliate partner, The Spark Company. They are offering a fantastic 10% off on all LGBTQ+ products until the end of June. It’s a great opportunity to grab some fabulous merchandise and show your support for the community. Just use the code PRIDE24 at checkout. You can find the offer here.

Support the LGBT+ community all year

Supporting the LGBT+ community is not just a one-month affair; it’s a year-round commitment to fostering inclusivity, understanding, and love. I am proud to stand by my LGBT+ family members, friends, and colleagues, and I encourage everyone to continue supporting and uplifting this vibrant community.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Pride Month. Let’s carry the spirit of Pride with us every day, celebrating diversity and championing equality in all its beautiful forms.

Happy #FreeforallFriday and a joyful end to Pride Month!

My Review of “The Journey Across Forever: A Magical Provocative Odyssey Across the Ages, Around the World & into the Great Beyond” by Wayne Saalman

I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I don’t feel a connection with the author and his constant references to life in the 60s, I don’t know. The blurb sold it to me and gave me high hopes for insight and wonderful revelations, but it didn’t deliver. There were a few interesting stories about the author’s personal spiritual experiences, but that was just a couple of chapters. For the most part I lost interest and even felt a little irritated because I felt like he talked about popular culture and music, especially The Beatles, more than he discussed the subjects I was expecting to learn about. This one is not for me.

About the Book

A Magical Mystery Ride through the Prism of History in a Search for the Answers to Humanity’s Highest Dreams. The Journey Across Forever is a powerful collection of writings detailing the author’s metaphysical insights and paranormal experiences over the decades as he traveled the world in a quest for truth and enlightenment.

Topics under discussion include the profound mysteries of consciousness, precognition, karma, reincarnation, the “Phenomenon” (UAPs), the Dreamtime of the Aborigines, Hermeticism, alchemy and the ‘secret knowledge’, shamanism, psychotropics and the three forms of magic. Saalman reveals what the physicist, the mystic and all seekers of truth have in common and explains why climate change, the power of social media, the threat of “apocalyptic” politics and the nefarious appeal of the dark web are a spiritual challenge for each of us.

Above all, The Journey Across Forever deeply explores why it is crucial that we heed the words, here and now, of those who have had a near-death experience if we genuinely believe in the reality of spiritual immortality and wish to make our way to higher dimensions upon our own exit from this planet. In the meantime, the author argues, a Brave New Aquarian Age of promise is ours for the making if we really want it and are prepared to do what it takes to secure it.

Navigating the World of Cosmetic Procedures with Teenagers

Hello, spooky friends! Welcome back to another #MummyMonday on SpookyMrsGreen.com.

Today, I want to dive into a topic that’s been on my mind lately, especially as a mother of teenage daughters: the rising popularity of cosmetic procedures among young people.

Image of a woman with her face surgically enhanced on one side and natural on the other. Text reads, “Navigating the World of Cosmetic Procedures with Teenagers. Help your teen make informed decisions at SpookyMrsGreen.com.” Mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.

Navigating the World of Cosmetic Procedures with Teenagers

Recently, I watched a fascinating documentary on ITV2 presented by Olivia Attwood, where she visited cosmetic clinics and explored the various procedures women are opting for today. It was eye-opening (pun intended) to see the lengths some individuals go to for aesthetic enhancement. As someone who has recently had Botox injections around my eyes for medical reasons, I’ve noticed a significant improvement not only in my vision but also in my appearance. This experience has led me to ponder the broader implications of cosmetic surgery.

I had Botox to address corneal neuralgia, a side effect of my congenital disease, Lymphodoema Distichiasis, a condition that was affecting my ability to see clearly. The medical benefits were immediate and tangible, but the cosmetic uplift was an unexpected bonus. I love how my eyes now appear more open, allowing me to engage with the world around me more fully. My eyebrows look arched rather than the previous perpetual frown I lived with, and I like the way I look. This positive change has made me wonder: Could cosmetic procedures be a worthwhile consideration not just for their aesthetic benefits but for their potential to enhance our overall well-being?

The Appeal of Cosmetic Procedures for the Younger Generation

It’s no secret that cosmetic procedures are becoming increasingly popular among young people. Social media, celebrity culture, and the pursuit of the ‘perfect’ look contribute significantly to this trend. Our teenagers are growing up in a world where beauty standards are not only high but also constantly on display. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok amplify the pressure to look a certain way, and cosmetic enhancements are often portrayed as a quick fix to achieve those ideals.

A Mother’s Perspective: Future Considerations

As a mother, I’m concerned about the impact these societal pressures may have on my daughters. I want them to grow up confident in their natural beauty and to understand that self-worth is not solely tied to appearance. However, I also recognize that cosmetic procedures can be empowering if they are chosen for the right reasons.

If my daughters express interest in cosmetic enhancements as they grow older, I hope to guide them through a thoughtful decision-making process. It’s important to consider not only the immediate aesthetic outcomes but also the long-term implications, including the physical and emotional impacts.

Is Cosmetic Surgery Worth It?

This brings us to a crucial question: Is cosmetic surgery worth the pain and cost if it helps us feel better about ourselves? Based on my personal experience with Botox, I can say that the benefits go beyond the surface. Feeling more comfortable and confident in your appearance can positively affect your mental health and overall quality of life. However, it’s essential to weigh these benefits against the potential risks and costs involved.

Final Thoughts

Cosmetic procedures are a deeply personal choice and can be a valuable tool for enhancing self-esteem and well-being when approached with care and consideration. As we navigate this complex topic, it’s crucial to foster open and honest conversations with our children about beauty, self-image, and the motivations behind choosing such procedures.

For now, I’m enjoying my rejuvenated appearance and the boost in confidence it brings. And as my daughters grow, I’ll continue to encourage them to appreciate their unique beauty while remaining open to discussions about cosmetic enhancements should they become a point of interest.

What do you think about cosmetic surgery?

What are your thoughts on the rising trend of cosmetic procedures among young people? Have you had any experiences with cosmetic enhancements yourself? Share your stories and opinions in the comments below!

#BookReview: “Love Earth Now: The Power of Doing One Thing Every Day” by Cheryl Leutjen

My Review of “Love Earth Now: The Power of Doing One Thing Every Day” by Cheryl Leutjen

I didn’t learn anything new or surprising from this book, but I think it is worth reading if you are conscious about the environment and how we can support a sustainable future for our children. I liked the little meditations at the end of each chapter and the way that the book is written. It makes it easy to fit into your busy day, and it reminds you of the ways in which you already support environmental awareness, so it might even cheer you up when you feel overwhelmed with responsibility.

About the Book

Reach a State of Sustainable Living and Eco-Mindfulness

“Love Earth Now” invites us to explore our thoughts and feelings about the waste and negative environment impacts we see daily. Author Cheryl Leutjen draws from her experience as an engineering geologist, environmental law attorney, small shop owner, and mindfulness practitioner to help put you on a path to sustainable living and environmental consciousness.

Merge environmentalism and spirituality. Do you find yourself wondering what on Earth you can do about the serious environmental challenges we face? Do you worry there’s nothing any one person can do to make a difference? Most people say they would like to do something to make the world a better place, but they just don’t believe they have the time, energy, money or power to do anything to make a real difference. Are you willing to devote 20 minutes a week to find out? Environmental activist Cheryl Leutjen has the planet’s back and is betting you do too. Her powerful book of inspired ideas and eco-mindfulness calls upon us all to Love Earth Now.

Get closer to a sustainable lifestyle, one day at a time. All our possessions and constant shopping are no better for us than they are for the planet itself. They contribute to landfills and create a tech-tethered society that is increasingly isolated. Both helpful and hopeful, Love Earth Now is brimming with creative ideas we can all try.

Practice Eco-mindfulness. Cheryl’s book of planetary self-help and eco-mindfulness is a deeply thoughtful and lucid look at the state of our “big blue marble,” our beautiful earth. It’s also a sourcebook of direct actions (large and small) we can all take to ensure our children and their children’s children have a healthy future on this planet.

Embracing the Unpredictable: Celebrating Summer Solstice Amidst a Stormy British June

Welcome to #WitchyWednesday at SpookyMrsGreen.com! As we inch closer to the Summer Solstice, there’s much to reflect upon in our unpredictable British summer.

June has been particularly turbulent, with cold and stormy weather making it feel more like winter than the sunny season we were eagerly anticipating.

Celebrating Summer Solstice Amidst a Stormy British June

It’s true, we did enjoy a brief mini heatwave last month that teased us with a glimpse of summer warmth. Those few days of sunshine were a welcome break, giving us hope that true summer weather was on its way. Unfortunately, the subsequent weeks have plunged us back into a wet and chilly reality. But such is the charm of British weather—always keeping us on our toes!

The abundant rain has had quite the impact on our gardens. I’ve been diligently working on my own overgrown patch, where the weeds have taken full advantage of the moist conditions to grow with wild abandon. It’s been a battle to keep them in check, but there’s something deeply satisfying about reclaiming my garden space. Thankfully, my neighbour kindly brought his chainsaw over last weekend, and together we cleared a section of woodland that had sprung up almost overnight. The transformation has been incredible and has inspired further plans to cultivate a serene and welcoming garden environment.

Summer garden party plans

My daughter is especially eager to see these changes come to fruition. She has her heart set on hosting a summer garden party for her friends, and with a summer birthday on the horizon, there’s an added incentive to get our garden in tip-top shape. We’re envisioning a garden sanctuary, a perfect blend of relaxation and play, where the children can have fun and we can all bask in whatever sunlight graces us.

As we approach the Summer Solstice, traditionally the longest day of the year, there’s hope that this marks a turning point towards more stable and sunny weather. The solstice is a time of celebration and reflection, of appreciating the peak of light before the gradual return to shorter days. For those who follow pagan or witchy traditions, it’s a powerful moment to connect with nature, celebrate growth, and honour the energy of the sun.

Despite the current dreary outlook, the Summer Solstice invites us to embrace the spirit of the season. It’s a time to gather with loved ones, enjoy outdoor festivities (even if we need to don a raincoat!), and make the most of the extended daylight. Whether we end up with clear skies or persistent drizzle, the essence of summer remains—a period of warmth, joy, and community.

High hopes for Summer Solstice

So, let’s keep our fingers crossed for a shift in the weather. May the sun break through the clouds, and may we find moments of brightness amidst the storms. Here’s to creating beautiful garden spaces, celebrating summer birthdays, and enjoying every precious moment of this season, rain or shine.

Happy #WitchyWednesday, and a joyous Summer Solstice to all!

My Review of  “The Serial Killer’s Son Takes a Wife” by Michael Libling

This must be my favourite fiction book of the year so far! I love a good horror story and this one brings the reader echoes of classic slasher movie gore with 21st century humour. I also think I fell in love with Robert “Bobby” Blessing, which I’m not sure reflects well on my personality! This story delves into the psychology of the serial killer while still imparting the terrible crimes they commit, but it gives us a generational update and a different perspective. I thought I knew where the story was heading and I was almost correct, but the ending still surprised me in a good way. I do wonder if there is the possibility of a sequel, and I would read it. It made me laugh, it made me squeamish, and it made me think about the nature of the human condition.

About the Book

SURVIVAL TIPS FOR SONS OF SERIAL KILLERS

1. Change your last name. Be forgettable.

2. Take comfort. Serial killing is not hereditary. Not usually, anyhow.

3. Never contact your parents, whether on Death Row or elsewhere. You are messed up enough.

4. Choose a dull career. Run an ice cream parlor, for instance.

5. Do not fall in love. Sooner or later, she will ask to meet your mom and dad.

6. Trust no one. Not even her.

7. Do not get married. It cannot end well.

8. Keep what you know to yourself. You were just a kid, after all.

9. Do not return to your boyhood home. No one has forgotten anything.

SURVIVAL TIPS FOR READERS: Watch your back. Lock your doors. Be courteous to everyone. Yes, everyone. This is your only warning.

Who Should I Vote For? Navigating the UK General Election

Hello SpookyMrsGreen readers, and welcome to #MummyMonday on the blog.

As the UK general election approaches this July, I find myself more conflicted than ever about who to vote for. Traditionally a floating voter, I’ve never been able to fully trust the major political parties, and now I feel completely lost.

Let’s take a moment to briefly examine the key parties in the running and what they offer, in hopes of finding some clarity.

Colourful image with the Union flag, polling cards and rosettes representing the UK political parties. Text reads, “Who Should I Vote for in the UK General Election? Join the discussion at SpookyMrsGreen.com.” Mindful parenting and modern pagan lifestyle blog.
Who Should I Vote for in the UK General Election?

Who Should I Vote For? Navigating the UK General Election

The Conservative Party

The Conservatives, led by Rishi Sunak, are known for their centre-right policies, focusing on free market principles, reducing government debt, and traditionally promoting lower taxes. However, their stance on social welfare, NHS funding, and handling of Brexit have been contentious, leaving many voters, including myself, feeling disenfranchised.

The Labour Party

Labour, currently under the leadership of Keir Starmer, traditionally champions social justice, public ownership of essential services, and increased funding for public services like the NHS and education. Despite their progressive manifesto, historical infighting and recent leadership changes have made it hard to trust their consistency and effectiveness.

The Green Party

The Greens, co-led by Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay, prioritize environmental sustainability, social justice, and grassroots democracy. Their policies resonate deeply with my values, particularly on climate action and social equality. Unfortunately, their lack of substantial parliamentary support often leaves me questioning the impact of a vote for them.

The Liberal Democrats

Led by Ed Davey, the Lib Dems advocate for a mix of social liberalism and economic moderation. They support proportional representation, stronger environmental policies, and greater investment in education and health services. While they present a moderate alternative, their historical coalition with the Conservatives has left a lingering doubt about their reliability.

The Reform Party

A newer entry, the Reform Party, led by Nigel Farage, focuses on electoral reform, reducing immigration, and renegotiating Brexit terms. Their right-wing stance and emphasis on national sovereignty appeal to some, but their policies can be polarizing, especially when it comes to social issues. They strike me as a party that focuses on business above all else, with no room for empathy or the plight of minority people, which is why I am unsure about my feelings for this party. I want to promote business because ultimately everything comes down to money and resources, but my emotional response is to stay well away from the Reform Party.

Who Should I Vote For?

As a woman dedicated to ensuring my vote counts, I feel the weight of this decision heavily. The dilemma is real: I don’t trust the Conservatives or Labour, the Green Party’s impact seems limited, and I have reservations about both the Liberal Democrats and the Reform Party. The old-fashioned, broken political system only adds to my frustration.

So, dear readers, I turn to you for advice. How do you navigate this complex political landscape? Who will you be voting for, and why? I believe in the power of our collective voices, and perhaps through sharing our thoughts, we can find a way to make our votes matter in this crucial election. Tell me about the politics that I haven’t heard on BBC radio or seen on popular TV news channels.

Stay spooky and politically engaged,

SpookyMrsGreen

My Review of “Fast-Starting a Career of Consequence: Practical Christ-Centered Advice for Entering or Re-entering the Workforce” by Fred Sievert

I was not expecting to enjoy reading this book, but I did enjoy it! It is heavily focused on Christianity and there are lots of bible references and quotes throughout the text, but aside from this I found the book entertaining and easy to read. The author imparts useful, practical tips on how to conduct yourself in the business world, whether you are an entry-level employee seeking promotion, or if you are an executive that needs fresh insight. The book covers business life around the Covid-19 pandemic, how young people find their way into corporate business in the 21st century, and how older people are finding their way returning to work or changing careers in midlife.

About the Book

Many young, ambitious Christians are struggling to get noticed as new hires in the workplace today—not only young people, but those re-entering the workforce following military service, child-rearing, or after being furloughed due to Covid-19. These workers may find it challenging to stand out from the crowd while also maintaining their Christian values and ethics.

Fast-Starting a Career of Consequence is the perfect guide for those looking to create a strong, faith-based foundation to further boost their careers. Fred Sievert knows from personal experience because his relationship with Jesus Christ and trust in God were the biggest factors in advancing his career toward eventually becoming the president of a Fortune 100 company.

Within “Fast Starting a Career of Consequence,” follow the advice Fred gave his daughter as she entered the workforce for the first time. It provides those seeking a career with ten practical and effective tips they can implement to rapidly gain visibility and early success. Fred encourages listeners to identify and use their spiritual gifts and apply other key biblical principles as they embark on a new career. Those seeking a career are encouraged throughout, Fast Starting a Career of Consequence with relevant scriptural references.
