Witchy Wednesday: Embracing the Reiki Precept “Just for Today, Do Not Worry”

As we step into the festive season, the energy around us seems to buzz with a mix of excitement and pressure. For me, this time of year has brought a whirlwind of emotions and challenges. Today, I want to reflect on my Reiki healing journey and share some self-care tips inspired by the Reiki precept: “Just for today, do not worry.”

This simple yet profound phrase has been my anchor in what has been an incredibly demanding and stressful time. Join me for some Reiki distance healing and read my tips about how to care for yourself emotionally and mentally during the Christmas season and beyond.

Navigating Stress and Overwhelm

Life has felt particularly heavy lately. Between my role as a carer to my neurodiverse family and the growing demands of my job in a busy local discount superstore, I’ve found myself stretched thin. The festive season has added its own chaos—shoppers rushing to prepare for Christmas, heightened expectations, and an overwhelming atmosphere of urgency. Recently, it all came to a head after a distressing incident at work that left me feeling completely undone. For a moment, I was a blubbering wreck.

But from that low point, I realised the importance of pausing to reflect, reassess, and heal. It’s not easy to admit when you’re struggling, but it’s crucial. I sought support from my GP, opened a dialogue with my employer, and most importantly, I committed to giving myself space and time to heal.

The Healing Power of Reiki

For me, healing begins with Reiki. The precept “Just for today, do not worry” has been a guiding light. It reminds me to take things one moment at a time, to let go of the endless cycle of “what ifs” and “should haves,” and to trust that everything is as it should be.

One of my favourite self-care practices is Reiki self-healing. When I feel overwhelmed, I sit in meditation, place my hands on my heart or abdomen, and focus on my breath. I play an album called Reiki River on my Alexa device—a soothing collection of music that instantly calms my mind. The gentle melodies help me recentre, allowing me to release the tension I’ve been holding and reconnect with my inner peace.

This simple practice, even for just 15 minutes, has made a world of difference. After a few days of focused self-care, I already feel lighter, calmer, and more in control. While I know there’s still a journey of healing ahead, I trust that I’m on the right path.

Tips for Self-Care and Emotional Balance

If you’re also feeling the pressure of the season, here are some tips to help you navigate it with more ease:

Start with Breathwork: Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath. Inhale deeply for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for four. This simple exercise helps to ground your energy and reduce anxiety.

Create a Sacred Space: Set up a corner of your home with calming items like candles, crystals, or a favourite photo. Use this space for meditation, journaling, or simply sitting in quiet reflection.

Practice Reiki Self-Healing: If you’re familiar with Reiki, spend a few moments each day placing your hands on your heart, abdomen, or wherever you feel tension. Let the energy flow to where it’s needed most.

Use Music for Relaxation: Play calming music, such as Reiki River, or any instrumental tunes that help quiet your mind and promote relaxation.

Set Boundaries: It’s okay to say no. Whether it’s skipping a social event or delegating tasks, prioritising your well-being is essential.

Connect with Nature: Even a short walk outside can work wonders for your mental and emotional health. Fresh air and the natural world have a grounding and rejuvenating effect.
