One aspect of paranormal romance that seems popular in contemporary stories is that of the supernatural creature yearning for a human life. This seems most frequent in vampire love stories. The tormented vampire will fall in love with a human woman, and he will yearn to be human with her. He will try hard to resist her charms, to walk away and keep her safe, but they inevitably end up together, triumphing over adversity.
There is no yearning to be human in my Redcliffe novels. My vampires are comfortable with themselves, and the wolves are deeply attached to their pack and the people they care for. In the first book, Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel), we find the heroine Jessica Stone yearning for what she perceives as a normal human life. This is before she even discovers the vampires and werewolves in her town. Her best friend is pregnant, and Jessica finds her biological clock kicking into action.
Jessica’s yearning soon changes as we move into Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel). She knows the secrets kept by the Mason brothers, and by her own close friend Simon Bunce. She has established her own abilities as a witch that have lain dormant throughout her orphan life. Her desires move towards needing to protect the man she loves from his jealous vampire master, and Jessica is pushed to the limits of her moral beliefs. Alongside her battle with the vampires, she struggles with her emotions towards Jack Mason’s identical twin brother, Danny. The werewolf alpha intrigues Jessica, and she cannot seem to break her connection with him.
All is revealed in the third book Love Redeems (A Redcliffe Novel). Jessica is a very powerful witch, descended of an ancient line. Being an orphan, she might never have known about her abilities, had she not become romantically involved with a vampire and werewolf. Now she faces the ultimate challenge, as she fights to defeat her love rival, save the vampire that she loves, and decide just how far she is willing to fall for the alpha werewolf…

Supernatural creatures pinning for their lost humanity is one of the reason I write the stories I do. Yes, I love a good paranormal romance, but I got tired of the whiny vampires and craved ones that were happy being undead and sucking blood.
So true! It is time to embrace the traditional creature in all its horror and violent beauty! Thanks for stopping by.
