There’s a certain magic in the air right now… not the ghostly kind (for once!), but something lighter. A whisper of fresh starts, open windows, and the satisfying thud of a donation bag hitting the car boot. Spring is creeping in, and I have officially declared war on clutter.

This year, my Spring cleaning comes with a twist. It’s not just about wiping surfaces and reorganising cupboards. It’s the opening chapter of a full home transformation.

🏡 A House in Transition

We are preparing for a major renovation of our beloved 1950s semi. Very soon, we’ll be welcoming sleek, German-engineered windows in dramatic black frames, along with elegant French doors and a brand-new front door. Think less “tired suburban semi” and more “modern Gothic sanctuary.”

The biggest change? We’re removing the dining room window and replacing it with French doors that open onto the patio. I can already picture it: morning coffee with a view of the garden, evening candlelight spilling out into the dusk… blissfully atmospheric.

But before we get to that dreamy stage, there’s the small matter of chaos.

📦 Decluttering Before the Storm

If you’ve ever lived through building work, you’ll know it’s not for the faint-hearted. Dust travels. Furniture migrates. Everyday life becomes a game of “where did I put that?”

So, I’ve begun the great clear-out.

Storage boxes and baskets are quickly becoming my new best friends, and I’m sorting through years of accumulated “just in case” items. Some will be sold on Vinted and eBay (because one person’s clutter is another person’s treasure), while others will finally make their exit.

It’s oddly satisfying. Each cleared shelf feels like reclaiming a little piece of calm before the renovation storm arrives.

Now, let’s talk about the garden. At the moment, mine is looking a little… neglected. Think overgrown, slightly chaotic, and in desperate need of a power wash.

Keep an eye on local marketplaces or charity shops. A weathered bench or wrought iron chair can look stunning with a little TLC.

🕸️ Subtle Spooky Touches

Nothing too Halloween-heavy. Think ravens, moons, or antique-style ornaments that hint at the mystical rather than scream it.

✨ Solar Fairy Lights

Soft, warm lights strung along fences or wrapped around plants create that twilight magic without increasing your electricity bill.

🌸 A Season of Transformation

Spring cleaning isn’t just about tidying up. It’s about making space for something new. In my case, it’s a full home revival, inside and out.

From decluttering cupboards to reimagining my garden as a Gothic retreat, this season feels like the start of something exciting.
