Should I get my Husband a Gift for Valentine’s Day?

Next week is Valentine’s Day, and I have decided that I want to celebrate the occasion. It will be a first in a very long time for my husband and me. But  now I have a dilemma. What can I get my husband for Valentine’s Day, and should I even bother to get him a gift if he doesn’t want to celebrate?

Join the conversation in my blog post, share your thoughts on whether we should celebrate Valentine’s Day over a decade into our marriage, and offer your suggestions on how to make it a memorable event.

Should I get my Husband a Gift for Valentine’s Day?

This year I have decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my husband. He is not happy about my announcement. We have been married for nearly fourteen years, together for over twenty years, and decided several years ago that we wouldn’t bother with Valentine’s Day because it was “just another day.” But that’s the point. I think it is nice to have something to plan for, something to get excited about, something to take the mundanity out of everyday life and brighten up an otherwise dull week.

I don’t expect an extravagant gift or a special treat. It is just another work and school day for our family. But I would at least like the opportunity to spend time with my husband as a couple without needing to run the children to and from clubs, or get some shopping specifically for the house, or do a specific job relating to our family obligations. We need time for us to be alone, to be romantic, to be properly together. I just don’t know when that will happen. But I still want to get him a little gift, although I have no idea what that might be. At this rate it will probably be a packet of sweets, but hey, it’s the thought that counts, right? He loves his Haribo.

We can celebrate Valentine’s Day

That gave me a few ideas! My husband does enjoy his music and is still fond of CDs, so maybe I can add another to his collection. Or maybe I can look for something a bit different that I can’t discuss in a public place… Enjoy your Valentine’s Day celebrations, whatever they look like.
