Today is my eldest child’s first day at High School, and so I have written a poem for her.

Starting High School: A Poem

Today we begin a new chapter

In the journey of childhood and life.

You will leave me behind once again

But I will always be there at your side.

Off you go to High School

I know you will love it there

We visited the building already

We planned and we prepared.

—–

You have a smart new uniform

New shoes, and bag, and blazer

Your friends are waiting to see you

Your sister will miss you with her.

—–

We don’t know what lies ahead

But we know that you are ready,

Confident, strong and assertive

Yes, my darling, my daughter.
