Free for all Friday: Rediscovering My Love for Scrapbooking

As the nights draw in and September cloaks us in those early hints of autumn, I find myself reaching once again for my craft box.

There’s something about this time of year—the whispers of Halloween just around the corner, the comfort of cosy evenings, and the call of creative projects—that brings me back to my love of papercrafts.

Free for all Friday: Rediscovering My Love for Scrapbooking

I have always adored the art of making things with my hands. In fact, fifteen years ago I designed all of my own wedding stationery and table decorations. It was a labour of love, full of lace, card, and glitter (with just a little Gothic flair, naturally). Life got busier after that, as it does, and my craft box gathered dust while my hands were full raising little ones.

Now, I have rediscovered my passion through scrapbooking. It’s a wonderfully creative way to capture memories, and it allows me to sprinkle in a little of my spooky aesthetic with dark papers, autumnal leaves, and witchy embellishments. At present I am working on a baby scrapbook for my younger daughter. She recently celebrated her twelfth birthday and was most unimpressed to learn that I am still working on hers, when I finished her older sister’s scrapbook years ago.

But here’s the truth: she has been my little limpet since birth, never letting me out of her sight for long, and she has given me very little “spare time” in these past twelve years! So, I think it is only fair that her scrapbook arrives late. After all, it means I can fill it with more stories, more photographs, and more magical memories than I ever could have imagined back when she was a baby.

Get Crafty this Season

If, like me, you feel the itch to get crafty this season, I recommend browsing the beautiful range of stamps and craft supplies from my affiliate partner, Stamp Design 4U. Whether you’re a seasoned scrapbooker or just dipping your toes into papercrafts, their designs add that extra special touch—perfect for Halloween projects, autumn journals, or even starting your Christmas crafts early (go on, you know you want to).

So, as September settles in and the veil between seasons begins to thin, I’ll be here with scissors, glue, and a stack of half-finished scrapbook pages. It’s not just about preserving memories—it’s about weaving stories into paper, crafting a little magic, and giving my girls a piece of their childhood they can treasure forever.

Do you enjoy scrapbooking or papercrafts? I’d love to hear about your projects—especially if they have a spooky twist!
