- Roblox tops the charts with over 2.5 million monthly searches
- Candy Crush sticks in second with 50,000 searches each month
Mobile gaming. It’s a phrase that means different things depending on who you ask but there’s no doubt it all began in 1997 with the simple game of Snake. Since then, the industry has exploded into the mainstream and now, with Brits searching for ‘free games’ 98,000 times a month on average, online gaming experts AskGamblers.com can reveal what Britain’s favourite mobile game is.
Roblox is incredibly popular among the younger generations and the 2.5 million monthly searches back that up. For British kids it’s a huge world where they can play with their friends and even try out making their own games. With over 1.5 million players under the age of 18, Roblox is all you’ll hear on the schoolyard especially with children between the ages of seven to twelve as 43% of the 1.5 million lands in this range. In 2021, Roblox made over 1.422 billion dollars of profit.
Candy Crush Saga has been a staple of app stores since 2012 and though the search volume sits at a moderate 50,000 per month it is still a popular time sink for Brits. With 50% of all players between the ages of 20 and 40, this matching puzzle game deserves its spot and brought in over 1.21 billion dollars last year.
Nipping at the heels of Candy Crush is 2016’s Pokémon Go. The walking simulator made popular by the addition of Nintendo’s pocket monsters is an easy pick up and play experience. With 49,000 average searches every month, AskGamblers.com can reveal that most players fall between the ages of 21 and 30, with young men being the most likely to join their friends hunting the little creatures. While nowhere near the console games, Pokémon Go still brought in a healthy profit of 887 million dollars in 2021.
Coin Master is next on our list with a decent 43,000 searches in the UK. Coin Master experienced a huge bump in 2019 due to the massive amounts of celebrity influencers like the Kardashians who advertised the game. Since then, it has risen to the top of the Google play store with over 1.3 billion dollars in 2021 and is mainly popular with women between the age of 39 to 50.
With a steep drop to only 24,000 monthly searches, Clash of Clans takes last place on our list. Another long-time resident of app stores, the city builder game has declined in popularity but is still popular with young men between 21 and 35. Clash of Clans brought in 489 million dollars of profit last year.
