Autumn has sprung, and I feel so much better than I did a few weeks ago. The air is growing cool and crisp, there is a hint of frost in the mornings, and of course, we welcome the season of spooky shenanigans! Here are 5 reasons why I’m an autumn person.
, Redheads melt in the sun. I have natural, auburn hair, pale, freckly skin and a genetic disorder that leaves me extremely sensitive to light. I don’t tan, I don’t relax in hot sunshine. I much prefer cooler days with a bit of sun tempered by fresh air.
, Cosy nights at home. Last week I lit our log burning stove for the first time this season and it felt wonderfully cosy in our living room. I am currently enjoying a study of poetry with a series of online video sessions in the evenings. My imagination is firing up and I remembered a poem I wrote a few years ago that was inspired by the autumn season.
, HALLOWEEN! My children are excited for Halloween, and we plan to join in with the #MiddleWITCHFest event in our town for the second year running. This time we want to make a better scarecrow and we will start planning it this weekend. We look forward to walking around town spotting Halloween scarecrows.
, Planning for Christmas. I try not to think about Christmas until after we have celebrated Halloween, but I just can’t help myself! I love decorating our house with novelty Christmas ornaments, singing aloud to my favourite Christmas songs, and making memories with my children.
, Hotpots and cooked dinners. I am vegetarian but I absolutely love a good, old-fashioned roast dinner. I make vegetarian cottage pie, I make a nice hotchpotch using up bits of veg before they go off, and I love the feeling of comfort and reassurance that comes from eating these foods. They remind me of childhood.
