Take Your Dog to Work Day

Today is Take Your Dog to Work Day! I work from home mostly so it’s a given that I will have the dog with me. He is my shadow, and I cannot move around the house without him under my feet.

I can’t take Marley with me to visit reiki clients, much as I’m sure he would love to be involved, but he loves nothing more than to join me in reiki self-healing meditation sessions. You can see some videos of Marley practising reiki healing with me on the Goldstone Reiki Facebook page.

Marley does tend to be a distraction when I need to focus on writing. When he wants attention he will jump on my knee, throw toys at me, scratch my arms and legs, and generally prance around until I respond. If I continue to ignore him, he jumps up at the window to bark at people passing by outside, knowing that it will make me shout at him. Little monkey!

Still, I do love having my dog with me. Our morning walks help to wake me up and prepare me for the workday. Our cuddles relax me when I am feeling stressed or tired. And you can never be idle when you have a dog. They are brilliant aids for mental health recovery, I think.

Do you have a dog, and can you take it to work with you? Please share your stories in the comments.

Echo has been on a visit to the riding school with me this morning! He’s met all my faves, given Dudley a lick, and then a nip! Some of the horses were interested in saying hi to him, others not. He’s been a good boy. And he is always, always, under my feet!
