I am currently studying to attain certification for 2nd Degree Reiki (Shoden). For people that aren’t familiar with reiki energy healing, here is a short description: it is a method for self-care that involves using meditation to tap in to the invisible essence that is all around us. We are part of this world, we are within in, and we must live in harmony wherever possible. Reiki is available to anyone who has an open mind and is prepared to work with the energy so that they recognise how it feels and what it can do. I am still learning, but I feel I have come a long way since I began my studies back in 2016.
Reiki originated in Japan a very long time ago, but with its recognised name and form, only became popular in the 1920s. It was first used by naval officers as a method of healing military troops following the First World War. It then made its way into the Western world, and I find the history of its use quite fascinating. I learned all of this from the handbook that comes with my course, but in practical terms I must make time to work with the sacred healing symbols of reiki, to meditate regularly, and to practise healing for myself and for other people. It is a lot more involved than you might think, and I love studying it. I just have to keep the momentum going during my domestic upheaval over the next couple of months.
