There is something magical about the art of dance. I am fascinated by the way that we can move our human bodies and use them to interpret a whole range of emotions, actions, and even portrayals. As a child I would have my dad record every episode of the original television series, Come Dancing. This was the predecessor to Strictly Come Dancing, I think. Anyway, I would watch those videos over and over, marvelling at the fantastic, sparkly, glamorous costumes that the dancers wore, and wishing I could move like that. Unfortunately, I am not given to natural grace and delicacy.
I was thrilled, therefore, when I discovered a local dance school that my daughters could attend from a young age. The Collin School for Dance in Middlewich is a lovely, small, family-run business, and we love attending. My elder daughter began in the Teeny Totz division, and has now moved up into pre-primary ballet, which apparently she much prefers. She especially enjoys wearing her pretty, pink dance costume and ballet shoes. My younger daughter started at Teeny Totz just before Christmas, and she is always dancing around at home, showing me her moves and telling me how much she loves to dance.
The Collin School for Dance also do adult classes. A few of my friends recently enrolled on a ballet dance course that runs in the evenings. I have not yet plucked up the courage to try it out, but I feel I may have to, if only to keep up with my daughters and their beautiful moves…

That’s so awesome! I think dance is a great thing to get kids involved in. My daughter is 18 and has been dancing since she was 4. She does all genres – ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, hiphop, pom (sort of like cheer) and she competes. She’s at the studio 4 days a week and works during the day, so it keeps her both in shape and out of trouble!
