You’ll Never Be a Show Dog, Baxter! #StaffyLove

I decided today that I must fire my dog. I mean, sack him! He’s supposed to be a guard dog, but this week he failed spectacularly in that task, although fortunately it wasn’t a situation that required any serious intervention.

No, I’m talking about a family dog who barks at our next door neighbours every time they drive up and down the road, who barks at people visiting relatives across the road from our house, and who barks at me when I speak in a certain tone or say specific ‘trigger’ words (not words that I have trained him to react to by the way).

This week I was awaiting a very special delivery; a brand new double mattress for my bed. I ordered it from Argos and they were delivering on Wednesday afternoon. Just before the time they had estimated, I was in the kitchen, the dog was begging for food, and the poor delivery men resorted to banging on my front window to attract my attention when I didn’t hear them knocking at the door. Bearing in mind they were in a huge lorry parked in our very small cul-de-sac, and the neighbours either side of us had heard the commotion, but my dog remained oblivious!

Sigh! But you know what, when he stares at me with those big brown eyes, and he gives me a big, sloppy Baxter-kiss, all is immediately forgiven…
