Changing Seasons; Lammas and the Harvest

Today is Lammas. It is the time of year when we begin to harvest our crops, celebrate a fruitful and fertile summer season, and begin to prepare for autumn as the weather changes and the temperatures drop. In the UK this has not exactly worked this year. Our summer has been sporadic at best. Today, for example, on the 1st of August, the weather is wet, although it still feels warm here in the North West of England.

This year has been very exciting for me personally. I have discovered several things about myself on a spiritual level, and have decided to embark on my formal training as a shaman. I have published my second novel, Love Kills (A Redcliffe Novel) and have almost finished writing the third one. I set up my own business, Spirit Sisters, for spiritual guidance and advice. And alongside all of this, I am experiencing the joys of being a mother as my daughter reaches the age of 18 months and keeps me busy!

We have experienced sadness this year as well. Only this weekend, we lost a family dog suddenly. Many people might say it’s only a dog, why all the fuss? But to me and my family, Megan was our kin. She was a schnauzer and lived with my Mum. She was like my baby sister, and was definitely the favourite child! Her passing was quite traumatic, and we are only now trying to process it in our human way.

How has 2012 been for you so far? What projects are you seeing completed now as summer draws to a close? What do you have yet to explore or experience? Whatever it is, and even if it seems to be bad, painful, difficult or hard to bear, remember that we all travel our paths in life for a reason. Whether we chose these lives by accident or design, there are always lessons to be learned. Enjoy what you have, and know that you have a choice to change what you don’t like.

Thank you for this post. On the positive side…I’m happy to hear of good progress on new projects. I’m nearing completion of my latest novel “A Passionate Spirit” and hope to put the finishing touches on the ms in the next 2 weeks so it’s an exciting time of fresh hope! I feel for you in the death of your dog. A much-loved family pet can be mourned as much as a human being. I was heartbroken when my dog died when I was age 19. I felt the same when my beloved cat died, in more recent times. May you be comforted at this time.
